Remote Sensing Image Server for GMS (Greater Mekong Sub-Region) Countries Kiyoshi HONDA, Sarawut Ninsawat, Teerayut Horanont, Ryuzo Yokoyama, Amor V.M. Ines Space Technology Applications and Research (STAR) Asian Institute of Technology (AIT)
Contents Background Purpose Introduction of Web Map Service Data being provided System Configuration Conclusion
Background GIS and Remote Ssensing (RS) have been taking a important role for sustainable development. Many researchers have done numerous developments in utilizing GIS and RS data to various applications The potential of Geoinformatics has not been fully realized in the sense of data accessibility, integrity and their integration with existing GIS databases. Internet has high potential to give opportunities for people to access to the data easily.
Purpose To develop a Satellite image Web Map Server in AIT. To establish mosaic image of LANDSAT over GMS countries. To Improve an access speed over WMS connection To organize experiment for linking multiple Web Map Servers. To serve images to IT-agriculture forum client IT-Agriculture Initiative to provide IT to.agriculture community
Introduction of web mapping technology Open GIS Consortium (OGC) Specification WMS( Web Map Service ) Standard interface between Client and Server Possible to send the request as message to multiple servers (in the distributed environment) and get the result as graphic data, through t normal URL linkage of Internet reference.
Minnesota Map Server Standard interface of Interoperability for Spatial data via WWW. Capability to serve various format Tiff, GeoTiff,, PNG, ERDAS, JPEG, CEOS, ER-MAPPER, ECW.. Can serve with on fly conversion
Data being provided NOAA/AVHRR NDVI image the 30-day composite NOAA/AVHRR NDVI shown as FCC 121. Landsat mosaic data Mosaic data of Thailand and GMS countries using Landsat 5 &7 (raw Landsat scence were downloaded from http://www.glcf.umiacs.umd.edu/index.shtml www.glcf.umiacs.umd.edu/index.shtml) Map data coastline, boundaries, road, river.

Conclusions Remote Sensing Image Server using Web Map Server has been developed Thailand LANDSAT mosaic is being served LANDSAT for GMS has been completed Two speed up mechanism has improved the access speed. Multiple server system was tested to serve RS images for other organization s s WMS as background. Looking for partners who would like to use our images as background of their own GIS data.
