9 PRODES Project to monitor the Amazon deforestation satellite images Ex.: increase in the deforestation from 1985 to 2000
10 PRODES Main Goal: Produce deforestation maps of the Brazilian Amazon. Calculate the annual deforestation rate. Every year these maps and rate are produced and disseminated through the Internet.
11 TerraAmazon The Amazon rainforest monitoring system of the PRODES project. Develop by Foundation for Space Science, Technology and Applications
12 Main Features Brazilian Amazon biome: 4,7 million Km2 221 scenes and each scene is divided in cells (0.25 degrees) Complete coverage of satellite images, with 20 to 30 meters resolution: Landsat, CBERS and DMC Multi-satellites: minimize cloud coverage guarantee data availability in case of a satellite operational breakdown.
13 Main Features Client-server architecture: a geographical database server and multi-users. Database server: PostgreSQL DBMS Concurrent environment: each interpreter has to lock the cells that he will work on, before starting the process. A lot of image processing functions are used during this process: georeferencing using control points, segmentation, classification,... PostgreSQL
