ICON FIRMWARE V1.10 AND NETWORK SOFTWARE V1.31 1.1 Introduction CAUTION: First read following notes on V1.10 implications! One should never install/upgrade a projector without informing on specifications and implications. This InfoT This InfoT gives more information about the V1.10 firmware and the V1.31 network software upgrade. The upgrade procedure must be followed thoroughly in order to bring the upgrade to a good end. The V1.10 firmware implies also (in some cases) some hardware modifications. icon firmware V1.10 is incompatible with power box hardware version 0.92! 1.2 Methods Upgrade methods There are 2 methods to upgrade the firmware: 1. With the Control and Diagnostics Client using the.cab file: the projector must be connected to a Local Area Network or (via a crossed cable) to a PC where the Client is running. 2. With a memory stick on the USB connection of the projector. Way of working The recommended way to upgrade the icon H600 is first to update the Control and Diagnostics client, the firmware, and then the network software. Running the V1.31 network software on top of V1.0(2) firmware is not supported, neither is running new firmware with old (<V1.31) network software. Running software version Depending on the software version running on the projector the procedure to be followed is slightly different. The 2 procedures are explained further on. The Control and Diagnostics Client must also be updated. Use the latest version available on the secured website, this should be V1.31. 1.3 Preparations 1.3.1 Checking the firmware version How to display the firmware version? 1. Press MENU to activate the Tool bar 2. Press to select General 3. Press to Pull down the General menu 4. Use or to select Identification Image 1-1 5. Press ENTER On the screen appears a text box. 1.3.2 Checking the server software version How to check the server version? 1. Right click on the server tray icon and choose about Image 1-3 A dialog box shows the actual version. 1.3.3 Starting condition The procedure assumes you start from a (normally) working icon with firmware version V1.00, V1.02 or V1.10. Make sure that on the icon the folder : c\documents and settings\all users\shared documents\received is empty. Howtoverifynormaloperation? 1. Switch on the icon H600. 2. Log on to Windows 3. 1.3.4 Download the firmware and network software? Where to download the firmware? 1. Go to the PartnerZone\Support\iCon H600\Software updates Where to download the network software? 1. Go to the PartnerZone\Support\iCon H600\Software updates 1.4 Control and Diagnostics Client upgrade The Control and Diagnostics Client is not running on the icon, but on the connecting laptop or PC. How to upgrade the client? 1. Go to Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs. 2. Uninstall the Control and Diagnostics Client. 3. Run the previously downloaded j2re-1_3_0_02-win-i.exe. 4. Run setup.exe. Always upgrade the j2re (Java runtime environment ) before running the setup file. 1.5 Firmware upgrade via USB How to upgrade the projector using an USB stick? 1. First empty the folder c:/documents and settings/all users/shared documents/received on the icon. 2. Copy all the downloaded files from the USB stick on the hard disc of the icon projector in the folder c:/documents and settings/all users/shared documents/received. 3. Double click the upgrade.bat file in these folders. 4. A black window will appear and this will be displaying some text during 90 sec until "done" isshowninthiswindow. 5. After 2 minutes, put the projector in the stand by mode and switch off the projector. 6. Empty the received folder c:/documents and settings/all users/shared documents/received. 1.6 Firmware upgrade via the Control and Diagnostics Client FTP File Transfer Protocol Upgrade operation with the Control and Diagnostics client Thefiletobesenttotheprojectorisafilewithextension.cab. This file will be sent to the server and then internally via FTP to the PMP of the projector. Some parts of the software (powerbox software,...) will only be installed once the internal FTP transfer has finished. During this time the boot LED (LED3) will show an active status (led flickering). LED 1 LED 2 LED 3 Image 1-5 Image 1-6 CAUTION: Never switch off the projector during the upgrade session. Even if the FTP transfer is done, it does not mean that the upgrade procedure is finished. Necessary tools Barco Control and Diagnostics Client running on a client PC How to upgrade the firmware (from V1.00 or V1.02)? Theprojectormaybeintheoperationalstatus 1. Start the Control and Diagnostics client 2. Click on Configuration in the tool bar. 3. Click on Upgrade to open the firmware upgrade screen. Image 1-7 4. Use the Browse key to select the desired cab file. 5. Press the Upgrade buttononthebrowsertoselectthefile. Page 5 of12
6. Press the Upgrade button on the upgrade screen to start the operation. The information screen will show the progress of the operation. Image 1-8 7. When the transfer is complete Done is shown. All the LED s on the projector should be off. Image 1-9 8. After the Done message has appeared, put the projector in standby, via the Control and Diagnostics Client or the local keypad. The Control and Diagnostics client will display a message that the projector has been disconnected. The Boot LED will blink for about 2 minutes (Green) during the cool down cycle. Do not turn the Power off during this period! 9. Switch off the icon (power switch). 10.Switch on the icon and press the Standby button. 11.After about 40 seconds (internal upgrade of system files), the boot LED will turn on orange for about 20 seconds. Do not turn the power off during that period. 12.After that period switch off the icon. 13.Switch on the icon. Page 6 of12
1.7 Important : Upgrade from V1.10 Upgrading from V1.10 In case one has to update the icon from V1.10, the procedure is slightly different i.e. the projector must be switched OFF/ON once. Thefirst8stepsarethesame. How to proceed after step 8? 1. After the cool down cycle, the Boot LED will turn orange for about 20 seconds during the internal upgrade of system files. Do no turn the power off during this period. 2. After that period switch off the icon (power switch). 3. Switch on the icon. 1.8 Network software upgrade SBC Single Board Computer What must be updated? The Barco Control Server The Barco Desktop Integration The Barco Control and Diagnostics Client : must be installed on the client PC or laptop. The procedure is not explained here. Never forget to install the latest JRE (Java runtime environment file) also available on the secured website (always uninstall former version!) How to upgrade the server software? 1. Unzip the network software on the SBC (server). 2. Install the new Control and Diagnostics client on an external PC. 3. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Image 1-10 Page 7 of12

8. Uninstall the Barco icon Server. Image 1-16 Image 1-17 9. You will be asked to confirm the removal of shared files. Push the Yes to All button and continue. 10.When the uninstall completes, it will display a message that not all files have been deleted. Image 1-18 11.Go to the folder C:\Program Files\Barco\Control Server using Windows Explorer. 12.Delete the remaining files in that folder. 13.No need to uninstall Barco Proximity Desktop. 14.Runbothsetups,setup.exe first. 15.Install the Barco desktop integration : ProjectorDesk-1.31.exe Image 1-19 16.During installation of ProjectorDesk-1.31.exe, when the dialog Choose setup type comes up, push the Complete button and continue. Image 1-20 17. ReboottheSingleBoardComputer (SBC). 18. Log on to Windows. Verifying To verify if the installation is performed correctly : 1. Browse to http://localhost with Internet Explorer on the SBC. 2. Use My Sources to select a source. If it works, it means that the LAN adapter and VGA adapter settings are correct and that the configuration can be safely backupped. Page 11 of12
System restore point It is recommended to create a System Restore Point after upgrading to V1.31. System Restore is a part of Windows XP to backup vital system configuration files. System Restore can be started from Start > Help and Support Center. The 1.10 release will perform a check on some of its configurations each time the server is started and offer to start the System Restore wizard in case an incorrect setting is detected. Ask your local IT administrator to create a system restore point, if needed. 1.9 Powerbox upgrade through RS232 Powerbox upgrade through RS232 1.Puttheprojectorinstandby. 2. Send following command through RS232: \x00 \x96 \x40 Caution:This takes 5 minutes, until then, the projector can not be switched off. Caution:Do not turn off the power during this period. During this period the boot led will turn orange. 3. After this period, switch off the projector and turn the power back on. Page 12 of12
