TOURISTIC NATURAL ITINERARY In Seriana Valley The Seriana Valley is the most important of the valleys of Bergamo and the most spectacular of the subalpine valleys above all for the wild aspect the mountain habitat shows in its upper part. It s rich in important resorts where you can ski (Castione della Presolana, Lizzola and Presolana) and its main river is the River Serio which has its source at the foot of Mount Torena and flows into the River Adda of which it is the most important tributary. 9.15 Departure time of the funicular for High Bergamo 9.30 Arrival in High Bergamo and beginning of the visit to the Rocca and to Rimembranze park. 11.00 Stop for a cup of coffee at Caffe Tasso. 11.20 Visit to Piazza Vecchia, one of the most beautiful squares in Europe, where you can see the fountain of Contarini, the ancient building of the civic library Angelo May, the Palazzo della Ragione and the Campanone, an old clock tower. 12.00 Visit of the Dome square, where there is the church of St. Maria Maggiore, the Colleoni s Chapel, the Baptistery and the Episcopate. 13.00 lunch at Osteria del vino Buono with a typical menu from Bergamo: Polenta and lard, casoncelli, typical desserts, Cabernet wine and coffee. Afternoon: 15.00 Arrival at Colle Aperto where you can see one of the four doors of High Bergamo, S. Alessandro s door. After that you can take the funicular to go up to Colle Virgilio. 17.00 Return to Bergamo by bus. 17.20 Arrival at the hotel Evening: 19.30 Dinner at Taverna del Gallo da Filippo in S. Bernardino street where you can taste a lot of fish-based specialities. 21.00 Beginning of the concert at Donizetti s theatre. Orchestra del XVIII conducted by Frans Brűggen plays. Sunday: Paleontological Park 7.30 breakfast at the hotel 8.00departure from the hotel by bike (free bikes from the hotel) 1 st stop at Montecchio park in Alzano Lombardo; in the park there are some pick-nick areas where you can have a break. 2 nd stop along the cycling path in Albino that has got some pick-nick areas too. 3rd stop for packed lunch in a naturalistic park in Cene called Prato Alto 14.30-15.30 visit to the paleontological park in Cene. This park was inaugurated to the public in 2002; in it there is a visitors centre where you can have information about the park. Outside the building there is a naturalistic path with noticeboards with information about animals and plants. The park is open from March to October with lots of services and activities for all kind of people. In the park you can find lots of fossils, in fact this park is very important all over the world. The principal finding was made in 1973 when they found the rest of an ancient reptile, which is conserved in Bergamo s science museum. 15.30-17.30 return to Prato Alto and free time. 17.30 departure to Bergamo from Cene by bike and return to the hotel.
Clusone is situated on a sunny hill on the edge of a small tableland, about 650 meters above sea level. There are a lot of hills and mountains around Clusone and the nature is uncontaminated. The town of Clusone is 34 km far from Bergamo and today it s an important turistic destination because of its particular location and artistic heritage. 8.00 : breakfast 9.00 : departure from the hotel by coach 10.30 : arrival at the bus station in Clusone and walk to Basilica di S.Maria Assunta 10.45 : guided visit of the Basilica. The Basilica was built in 1688, the project was made by Giovanni Battista Quadro, who also designed the Dome of Milan. Inside there are some chapels: four on the left and four on the right. The high altar is a work by Corbarelli from Brescia and Fantoni from Rovetta and it took them 21 years to complete it. 12.00-14.00 : free time for lunch in a pub or in a restaurant 14.00 : meeting at Piazza Orologio 14.00-15.30 : visit of the square and the town hall In the square you can find the town hall and the Clock Tower. On the front of the tower there is a planetary watch and on it you can read lots of astronomic elements about the measuring of time. In the square there are some exhibitions of drawings, small objects, books, furniture and coins all belonging to S.Andrea s collection. 15.30-17.30 : free time 17.30 : meeting at piazza Orologio and walk to the library 17.45-18.45 : visit of the library 18.45-20.30 : dinner in the typical restaurant Mascherone 20.30 : meeting at the station and departure to the hotel

WEDNESDAY Excursion to Barbellino s dike Morning: breakfast at 7 o clock. Departure: at 8 o clock from Bergamo to Valbondione through the Seriana Valley (about 50 km). From Valbondione, walk towards the Curò refuge, about 3 hours walking, and cross the medieval bridge of Piccinella under which the Serio river runs. Follow the path and arrive at the falls (15 minutes walk): you ll have a wonderful view of the 315 meters jump. At midday arrival at the Curò refuge, where you can have lunch. Difference in height: 879 meters in Valbondione, 1915 meters at the refuge. Difficulty: easy hiking. Curò refuge: telephone 0346/44076. Visit: from about 3 pm to 4 you can visit the Barbellino s dike. Return to the hotel at about 7 pm.
