DAYTON REGIONAL PROFILE Quality of Life: The Dayton Region is a diverse mixture of cultures, experience, people and places, including the world s largest Aviation and Aerospace Museum, the National Museum of the United States Air Force, and the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. Dayton is home to the Dayton Art Institute, ranked #3 in the nation for children. There are also many thousands of acres of green spaces to explore. The Dayton Region enjoys big city amenities with a small town, Midwestern feel. History & Heritage: Events that took place in the Dayton Region have changed the world. From the Wright Brothers work developing powered flight, to Charles F. Kettering s electric car starter, to John Patterson s cash register, to the Air Force Research Labs developing the technology that would eventually become LexisNexis, the Dayton Region has been the home of some incredibly inventive and innovative minds people who were not only curious but forward thinking and filled with a sense of purpose. Though much of the Dayton Region s history relates to innovation in industry, the roots in American culture are equally strong. The Dayton Region has built on past experiences, its Native American roots, a stop on the underground railroad, the birthplace of one of America s greatest poets, Paul Laurence Dunbar, to become the home of some of the best arts organizations in the country. Education: Education is a top priority in the Dayton Region. There are 41 nationally recognized colleges and universities, a wide variety of public and private K-12 schools, and recognized Ohio Blue Ribbon Schools for academic excellence (K-12) FACTS: The Princeton Review listed Cedarville University, the University of Dayton, and Wright State University among the Best Midwestern Colleges. The University of Dayton and Wright State University were listed in The Best 301 Business Schools, published by Random House and The Princeton Review. The 2009 U.S. News & World Report ranked Cedarville University and Wilmington College as two of the best baccalaureate colleges in the Midwest region. Sinclair Community College s Business & Public Service Division received the Association of Collegiate Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP) Award and are among the first in the country to receive this distinction. Transportation & Logistics: The Dayton Region sits at the intersection of I-70 and I-75, giving it access to one of the most highly traveled intersections in the United States. In fact, the Dayton Region is within 600 miles of 53% of the U.S. population and 60%of workers currently employed in manufacturing industry, providing short commutes to major markets. Travel time within the city is also convenient. The daily community time is five minutes below the national commute average and compares favorably to various metropolitan areas. Within approximately 60 minutes, our businesses and citizens have access to three international airports with daily operations that rival major metropolitan areas. In addition, the Dayton 90 minute air market reaches over 137 million people ( 53% of U.S. workers within 600 miles) and more than half of the combined population in the U.S. and Canada, allowing for twice-a-day service to five metropolitan areas plus 300 towns and large cities. ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE DAYTON DEVELOPMENT COALITION The Dayton Development Coalition is the regional economic development and advocacy organization whose mission is to support job creation and prosperity for the citizens of the Dayton Region. The Dayton Development Coalition and its regional partners are executing a game plan to continue the growth of the Dayton Region. For the third consecutive year in a row, the Dayton Region has been highly ranked in Site Selection Magazine as top metro for business relocations and corporate expansions. In fact, this year Dayton is the only Midwestern metro to rank in the medium-size metropolitan (population of 200,000-1 Million) category no other metro in all of the 12 Midwestern states ranked. The Governor s Cup Award is the annual Site Selection award that recognizes the top states in the nation based on new or expanded facilities over the past 12 months. The Dayton Development Coalition, in collaboration with regional partners, has played a fundamental role in relocation and expansion projects such as WilmerHale, ConAgra Foods, Inteva, and GE Aviation. It is because of regional partnerships and collaborations, that the Dayton Region continues to rank in Site Selection Magazine s Top Metro listing.

H2Open For Business Campaign State Award Winner The Dayton Development Coalition s H2OPEN FOR BUSINESS campaign received a state award from the Ohio Economic Development Association. This top honor was in the Excellence in Economic Development Marketing, large category (population 150,000+). This award recognizes successful marketing campaigns. POSITION PROFILE VICE PRESIDENT, BUSINESS ATTRACTION The Dayton Development Coalition is looking for an experienced and energetic professional to provide leadership and direction in developing, coordinating and implementing economic development strategies focused on attracting new investment and new job creation. REPORTS TO: EVP Economic Development & Operations KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Work with the economic development staff to create a coordinated and updated, professional approach to business attraction and entrepreneurial development programs. Take on the leadership role in developing and implementing a strategic business plan to grow and attract targeted businesses to the Dayton region, resulting in the creation of jobs and capital investment. Form partnerships with related business associations, organizations, corporations, JobsOhio and Universities to gain and leverage their support a successful business strategy. Establish and implement performance-based measures to evaluate the success of the business attraction programs & initiatives. Deal directly with business prospects, prospect sources and consultants to provide pertinent data and access to community resources necessary for successfully completing new business deals. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated ability to design, implement and integrate a cluster based economic development effort. In-depth knowledge of the principles and practices of economic development that leads to the creation of jobs and capital investment. Proven ability to build programs and initiatives with public and private sector leaders to attract jobs to the region. Experienced in simplifying complex initiatives and integrating diverse perspectives into an operational plan; effectively gets teams working together in an integrated fashion toward a common goal. A proven economic development professional that can cultivate and manage projects, while fostering partnership and collaboration, that result in deals closed. A proven marketing executive with economic development or industry experience who can cultivate and manage multiple projects while fostering partnership and collaboration A proven deal-maker who can manage projects toward a successful completion

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS Ability to roll-up the sleeves, self-starting demeanor with vision. Communicator, persuasive with oral and written communication. Networker; builds collaborative and productive relationships with others both inside and outside economic development organizations, and maintains a wide network of contacts that can be leveraged on behalf of the organization s goals. Able to connect-the-dots, assess the current business situation, offer realistic ways to improve that situation and help organization understand what they can do to improve the situation. Flexible, adaptive, focused on continuous improvement, able to look for new ways to solve the problem. EDUCATION Bachelor s Degree or equivalent. MBA or Advanced degree desired. Minimum of five to ten (5-10) years of experience in marketing, business development or economic development CEcD Certified Economic Developer designation a plus SELECTION PROCESS Candidates for this position will be evaluated by Jorgenson Consulting.
