Green Buildings Energy Efficient Air Climate Solutions ENERGY EXPERTISE ENVIRONMENT

Maximized Climate Control with Minimized Energy Costs Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Today we demand a comfortable environment when inside a building. One important parameter for a good indoor environment is the air quality. Good indoor air quality in turn is a combination of factors like oxygen level, humidity, absence of odour and pollution - and obviously the right temperature. We can provide products to precisely match those requirements. Energy costs ENERGY EXPERTISE ENVIRONMENT Cooling and heating processes typically demand high levels of energy supply. In modern buildings air treatment is often the biggest consumer of power. This fact, together with constantly increasing global energy prices, call for systems optimized for best overall efficiency. At Fläkt Woods we combine our experience with advanced technology to achieve intelligent system solutions. They are sound investments providing a short payback and dramatic savings in the long run. During the value engineering process we will also be able to reduce capital cost alongside the energy savings. 2

Environment The environment is also a winner with our solutions. For nature, regardless of energy source, the least harmful kilowatt of energy is the one saved and never produced. Controlled humidity Control over the humidity content of the air is one factor to reach good indoor air quality. Humidity control is also essential for use of chilled beams, an air cooling technique with good efficiency and high levels of comfort. 3

Fläkt Woods integrated advantages EPBD Following the Kyoto protocol, the European Union has set a target to reduce energy consumption. The initiative is called the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). For buildings the target is set at a 20% reduction by 2020. The directive has been in force since 2003 and there is local legislation for each EU country to ratify the directive. The EPBD is viable for all buildings, domestic and non-domestic. BREEAM BREEAM is the world's foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings, with 200,000 buildings with certified BREEAM assessment ratings and over a million registered for assessment since it was first launched in 1990. BREEAM sets the standard for best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation and has become one of the most comprehensive and widely recognised measures of a building's environmental performance. LEED Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (US- GBC), and spearheaded by LEED founding Chairman Robert K. Watson, LEED is intended to provide building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. Since its inception in 1998, the Green Building Council has grown to encompass more than 8,000 projects in over 30 countries. 4

Fläkt Woods Solution To address these requirements, Fläkt Woods has invested great effort into creating the e3 Concept with advanced HVAC technologies. Our solution is a broad approach leaving no stone unturned to achieve optimum results. High-performing components provide a good start, but it is by combining products into an integrated system, utilizing smart controls, that one can achieve the best energy solutions. ENERGY EXPERTISE ENVIRONMENT The e 3 logo is used to highlight products and systems that deliver savings on Energy, Economy and the Environment. 5

Our experience in Energy Recovery AHU markets makes us the perfect partner for humidity control applications; achieving world class energy saving and shortest payback period. Our R&D work focuses on reducing energy consumption and creating fully factory assembled AHU system solutions with various advanced energy recovery options, controls and energy monitoring for Green Buildings. Fläkt Woods air handling units are certified according to the test and classification standard EUROVENT. We can reduce the energy consumption by reducing the capacity of boilers and cooling machines. Total Energy Recovery Wheels Fläkt Woods has both Single and Twin Wheels air handling units to provide advanced cooling and humidity control versus other solutions in the market. The purpose is to produce cool and dry air while lowering the cost for these processes compared to conventional systems. At the heart of the system lies an advanced 3Å molecular sieve desiccant, which achieves best in class energy recovery performance for any hot and humid climate. The Twin Wheels controller operates rotors and cooling coils in sequence to a dew set-point value, thereby limiting the supply air humidity level whilst maintaining a precisely matched indoor air quality. Good humidity control helps to eliminate the risk of condensation, ideal for chilled beams application. 8

Total Energy Recovery Wheels -- Differential Advantages For hot & humid climate and more stringent requirements such as laboratory applications, 3Å desiccant wheel technologies offer the followings differential advantages: Independent certified performance high latent capacity 3 Ångstroms desiccant coating limits contaminant carry-over Prevent cross contamination by using high pressure labyrinth seals and purge Fläkt Woods subsidiary SEMCO is the only US manufacturer with an air test facility certified to be in accordance with the ASHRAE 84 test standard. Fläkt Woods has invested in design tools and test facilities to understand and address this challenge. Chilled beams systems demand that internal latent loads are accurately estimated and that indoor humidity levels be controlled effectively to avoid the possibility of condensation on the cooled coil (active beam) mounted at the ceiling surfaces. In humid climates, this demands the primary airflow to be delivered at low dew points if the energy efficiency benefits offered by chilled beams are to be recognized. SEMCO Pinnacle system is uniquely suited to achieve these conditions in the most cost effective, energy efficient manner. The Pinnacle system s high dehumidification and low dew point advantages also makes it the most energy efficient humidity control for operating theatre application. 10

Air Handling Units (AHU) and Energy Recovery Options Liquid coupled (run-around) coils available as energy recovery options in our AHU. Econet Econet is a further development of Ecoterm with higher efficiency and several additional functions. In the Econet concept, all energy functions are integrated in one single circuit for heat and cooling recovery, heating and cooling. The coils are high efficient, and the difference between the liquid and air temperatures is minimal. Low-temperature energy sources such as waste heat and waste cooling can be utilised. The system optimises the liquid flow in the coils to produce maximum heat recovery. Typical temperature efficiency: 60-70%. eq Plate - Counter flow Plate Heat Exchanger eq plate heat exchanger of counter flowtype is perfect in applications where transfer of odours and moisture is not allowable between supply and exhaust air. The efficiency is higher than traditional plate heat exchangers and on the same level as rotary heat exchangers. 11

Fläkt Woods Integrated Chilled Beams Systems Solutions Fläkt Woods has been a chilled beam supplier and technology leader in the European market for more than 30 years. Due to the growing number of LEED or equivalent certified Green Buildings being designed, the significant energy efficiency benefits offered by chilled beam technologies have caught the interest of a growing number of developers, architects and engineers worldwide. We match our Chilled Beams to work with our Air Handling Units and cooling machines to provide optimum energy efficiency and cost savings. Important advantages of a chilled beam system: 1Energy savings Chiller energy costs can be reduced 10-15% with Chilled Beams vs. VAV due to higher operating water temps (14~16 ºC) with beams. Up to 75% of the total cooling capacity will be handled by the water. Reduced air requirements means less ductwork for air, smaller AHU, lower noise and related fan motor operating costs. No fan energy compared to FCU system. Free cooling available for AHU (primary air) and chiller (chilled water). Temperature profile Velocity profile 3Very quiet operation Maximum alllowable noise level for offices is 40 db(a) vs chilled beam around 35 db(a) for high capacity beam. 2Motorized Energy Control system The patented system of motorized induction nozzles enables you to reduce the energy consumption and to have full flexibility in the layout of your buildings. Variable Air Volume (VAV) optimizes the ventilation to suit the average occupancy rate which varies between 35 and 55% during normal office hours. 12

4Optimum occupant comfort and indoor air quality (IAQ) 5Efficient and easy controls Effective controls of both room temperature and humidity. More air (due to induced room air) can be evenly distributed throughout the space, reduced draft or dumping of cold air vs VAV system at peak conditions. The water coil is controlled by simply opening and closing a chilled water valve, based on a call for cooling from the wall thermostat. These valves are configured to close on failure and are commonly fitted with a condensation sensor. The primary air is controlled by the CO2 sensor or / and the occupancy sensor depending on the air quality and the occupancy in the room. The Free Cooling function is in standard implemented in the FWG controls and thus enable easily to the end users to save energy. 7Reduced ceiling height 6Low maintenance Low Chilled Beam height (250 mm) and less installation space allow building ceiling height for each floor to be reduced up to 410 mm. Unlike a fan coil unit a Chilled Beam has no fan, fan motor, electrical wiring, condensate drain pan & pipes or filters to be maintained. Low velocity associated with induced air across dry cooling coil limits the collection of airborne dust. 13
