Preparation for College The ultimate test for any school rests on its ability to adequately prepare students for the next stage of their life; in most cases, this is college. The teaching faculty and administration of Fremont Christian High School understand that we have these students but a few years, and in that amount of time, they gain the necessary confidence and academic skills required for successful college completion. ACR: You Cannot Be Too Prepared To better prepare students for the increasing rigor of college-level coursework, in 2005 the English department introduced an innovative, UC-approved course - Advanced Composition and Rhetoric - to address significant aspects of college academics. In addition, a 15-day SAT exam preparation unit is integrated into this one-of-a-kind course that is required of all sophomores. More About the SAT The middle 50% of college-bound FCS seniors perform well on the SAT. In fact, 83% of the mid-50 scored higher than the national average on the SAT Math, 89% scored higher than the national average on the SAT Verbal, and 100% scored higher than the national average on the SAT Writing. Why Use the Middle 50 Percent? In virtually every school, there are students who perform extremely well and those who score low on standardized tests for various reasons. The annual variation of these students scores tend to misrepresent a school s profile. Now, colleges are more likely to report their mid-50 on profiles, and FCS does the same as the mid-50 better gauges a school s academic strength. Fremont Christian School s SAT Verbal Scores Compared with the Middle 50% of College Freshmen 200 300 400 500 600 700 800 Eligibility, Eligibility, Eligibility Close to 70 percent of FCS graduates have been eligible to attend the California State University, far above the state norm of 33 percent, and almost 40 percent of graduates have been UC-eligible, exceeding the state norm of 13 percent. Historically, FCS students focus on attending the University of California. To this end, FCS has more yearlong UC-approved courses per student capita than any school from Walnut Creek to the greater San Jose area. Across California, only 2% of high school seniors are eligible to attend UC Berkeley, but 7% of FCS graduates have been accepted to Berkeley over the past six years. High School: An Overview General Information about FCS Founded in 1968, Fremont Christian School recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, and it continues to offer students an excellent opportunity for academic achievement, spiritual enrichment, athletic involvement and character formation. The secondary level is one of four campuses that total 1,150 students (excluding those in the independent study program). Superintendent Ken Rankin, and 5 administrators, provide leadership to the school. Accreditation Fremont Christian School is a member of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), accredited by both agencies at the highest level of a six-year term. Current accreditation extends to the summer of 2009. Admissions and Enrollment Students must have a 2.0 GPA (on a 4-point scale) with no F's nor behavior problems within the last calendar year to be eligible for admission. Our full-time secondary enrollment (grades 7-12) is 339 students, with 215 in the high school. The size of the Graduating Class of 2010 is 58 students. Race and Gender Composition (7-12) White 39%, Asian 31%, Hispanic 15%, Black 5%, Asian Indian 9%, Other 1%; Male 49%, Female 51% The best of both worlds! Students are more successful when they connect with instructors and feel that they belong. FCS has that family environment that offers students the opportunity to build quality relationships. And, with more UCapproved courses per student capita in the greater East Bay, academic challenge and success are available too. Faculty Demographics 22 full-time faculty, 5 part-time faculty Doctorate (3), Master s (6), Master s in progress (3), Bachelor s (18) Class Size and Course Load (2008-2009) Average class size: 19.1 (high school); 21.5 (junior high) Student-teacher ratio: 14.9 : 1 FCS students participate in seven 45-minute class periods per day. Grading System and Ranking Fremont Christian School operates on the semester system with 2 grading periods a year. The grading scale is as follows:a (90-100), B (80-89), C (70-79), D (60-69), F (59 and below). Class rank is based on a weighted GPA which gives an extra point for AP course grades of C or better.

Fine Arts is the shining star of FCS extracurricular activities. Award winning choral, instrumental and drawing/design performances entertain and inspire our campus, community organizations and faraway locales like NYC s Carnegie Hall and Riverside Church. Safety is a priority at FCS. We are blessed to have not experienced campus violence and we continue to seek out proactive ways to make our campus safer. We have 30+ surveillance cameras on site and a newly-installed security gate to better monitor the entrance to the secondary campus. Advancing in Science Education is a priority; the school has completed the conversion of five classrooms into two 1700- foot science laboratories with an adjoining large storage/office space. The result of this two-year project are industry-rated labs and lecture spaces with hi-tech equipment that will allow us to increase the breadth and depth of our program offerings, including a biotech center. College Placement Over the past three years, approximately 70% of FCS graduates enrolled in a 4-year college or university, 25% enrolled in a community college, and the remaining 5% pursued technical training, entered the workforce or began serving in the military. However, applications are accepted as long as FCS has space available. Some classes do reach the maximum level of students early in the enrollment period. Fremont Christian School considers the junior high years to be crucial for the development of skills related to a student s critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving, social development, conflict resolution, communication skills, physical health and spiritual formation. Our junior high students have an added benefit - we get to know them for an extra two years before they enter Fremont Christian High School. As a result, students enter the high school years seamlessly with minimal disruption, and faculty and staff are better informed about the student s unique needs and learning styles.
