THREE-YEAR DEGREE COURSES Cultural Tourism Sciences (L-15) Linguistic and Cultural Mediation (L-12) INFORMATION AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS In accordance with art. 14 of the University Didactic Regulations, prospective students of the degree courses activated in compliance with D.M. 270/40 will have to undertake an assessment procedure concerning the knowledge of 2 Foreign Languages and of Italian and General Knowledge. Assessment will be carried out through entry tests in order to evaluate the Foreign Language* levels (*to be chosen from the languages provided by the faculty) and a test of Italian and General Knowledge. Foreign Language and Italian and General Knowledge entry tests: Entry tests are not selective tests, they represent a form of self-evaluation, and thus in no case do they bar candidates from enrolment to the degree courses. The tests are structured in order to help the student to identify any potential knowledge gaps. The entry tests are designed by the main coordinators of the language module. The table below reports the entry test schedule. Students must complete the form available on the Faculty web site and send it by email to testingressolls@uniss.it by August 25th 2011. Students can take more than 2 entry tests and the two Italian and General Knowledge entry tests for both degree courses. Tests are compulsory also for those students who already hold a language certificate. Students who fail the tests will have to attend a remedial course and repeat the test at the end. To take the test students will not need to be already registered to the University but will simply have to show a valid ID. The calendar of entry tests is also published on the Faculty web site. Test procedures Students will be allowed 1 hour (30 minutes for English) to complete their Foreign Language entry tests. The tests are divided into two thematic sections: verbal comprehension; logical and grammar structure analysis. The questions may be multiple choice (grammar, listening and reading), and/or transformation/gap-filling exercises. The Italian and General Knowledge entry test will last for 1 hour. Entry test results - supplementary training duty (STD) (art. 14, University Didactic Regulations) The Foreign Language and Italian and General Knowledge coordinators will publish the entry test results on the Faculty web site one day after the taking of the tests. Students who fail the test can still enrol to University but must attend remedial courses or, should they be unable to attend/pass the subsequent tests, they must carry out Supplementary Training Duties (STD) in order to recover their personal knowledge gaps by the end of the first year through specific procedures to be established with the relevant module coordinator. Supplementary training duties will not be counted as extra credits beyond the student s personal study programme and will not be considered in the student s average mark. The Faculty will organize free remedial courses in September for each Foreign Language and for Italian and General Knowledge, aimed at fulfilling the supplementary training duties. English Language: 5 th 23 rd September German Language: 5 th 23 rd September Spanish Language: 5 th 23 rd September Italian and General Knowledge (L-12): 12 th 23 rd September Italian and General Knowledge (L-15): 12 th 23 rd September The final test, to be held on September 26 th, will only concern the Foreign Languages assessment, thus excluding a final assessment of Italian and Generic Knowledge Exams Each module may be assessed periodically or through a final examination, marked with credits and a final grade out of 30. Foreign Language modules entail practical grammar classes throughout the year and theoretical classes held for one semester. At the end of the grammar course, students will have to take the related exam and its result will be part of the final mark assigned by the main Language coordinator. Syllabi and examination procedures are described on the e-uniss online platform, on the Faculty web site. Exemption from Language and Computer Studies exams Students holding International language certificates or Computer Studies certificates recognized at ministerial level are eligible for exemption from some exams, as specifically indicated on the tables published on the faculty web site. Modules to be chosen by the student Modules to be chosen by the student may be selected amongst other modules taught in this Faculty or other Faculties within the University of Sassari or in other Italian and foreign Universities. Students are advised to choose modules which are coherent with the aims of their degree. The choice is free and does not imply the submission of an individual study programme; however students are invited to consider first and foremost the modules taught in this Faculty. To be awarded a degree within the prescribed length of the degree course, students are advised to choose further Foreign Language modules apart from the prescribed ones, since language modules require a strict propaedeutic sequence. Other modules or activities: up to 6 credits Beside internship programmes, students may obtain up to 6 credits through other modules or activities not included in the compulsory study programme, provided that they correspond or are comparable to the following options: Certified work experience, in line with the curriculum studiorum and not gained before university enrolment up to 6 credits Language or Computer Studies modules up to 6 credits Modules comprising extra-curricular activities, offered by the Faculty or other degree courses or other universities up to 6 credits IFTS course up to 6 credits Certified experience in nonprofit organizations up to 6 credits Self-managed student s activities in accordance with art. 6, c. 1 L. 341/90- up to 2 credits Tutorial and counselling activities within the Faculty or the University of Sassari up to 6 credits Extra-curricular activities organised by the Faculty up to 2 credits (e.g. additional modules, seminars, practical activities etc.) Study experience abroad in recognised Universities (Erasmus exchange programmes, exams, specialist courses, internship programmes, seminars, etc.) up to 6 credits This type of activity does not entail a final mark, but gives right to University credits to be evaluated by the Faculty Committee. Degree mark bonuses 6

If a student enrolled to the first year in 2011-2012 is able to be awarded his/her degree within the prescribed length of the course (three year courses: by April 2015; postgraduate courses: by April 2014), he/she will be entitled to an additional bonus of 2 points on his/her degree score. Degree mark bonus for Erasmus exams and Erasmus placement (can be added to other bonuses) If a student has taken at least 2 exams and at least 12 credits during the LLP Erasmus Programme and they have been recognised as part of the compulsory and curricular study programme, or if he/she has taken part in the LLP Erasmus Placement Programme, he/she can benefit of 1 additional point on his/her degree score. If a student has taken part in both programmes, he/she is entitled to 2 additional points. Propaedeutic sequence of modules The propaedeutic sequence of modules indicates the temporal and logical sequence in the preparation of exams, binding the sitting of some exams to the prior passing of other exams. The current academic year prescribes the following propaedeutic sequences, to be respected by all students, regardless of their year of registration: modules followed by number 1 are propaedeutic to modules with the same name followed by number 2 and so on (e.g.: English Language 1 is propaedeutic to English Language 2); modules followed by alphabetical letters are not propaedeutic to other modules ( e.g. Modern History A-L is not propaedeutic to Modern History Z-L). From 2009-2010 onwards Business Economics is propaedeutic to Business Economics and Management. 7

ENTRY TESTS PROSPECTIVE POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS Entry requirements for the Postgraduate degree course in Language, Cultures and International Communication (LM-38) are explained in detail in the relevant course prospectus. For further information about entry test procedures, registration and remedial courses, please check the related paragraphs outlined in the three- year degree courses section. The LM-38 entry tests are compulsory and selective. Registration and test dates cannot be amended. Students failing the entry test must attend remedial courses. At the end of the courses, tests will be repeated. Registration to university is not required: to take the tests, students will have to show a valid ID. Students are allowed to submit a maximum of two requests per year. DEGREE IN LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL MEDIATION (L-12) (D.M. 270/2004) Prospectus The degree in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation is a three-year course; it is divided into two curricula: Interlingual and intercultural studies Linguistic and literary studies The first year modules are the same for both the curricula. From the second year onwards, the Interlingual and intercultural studies syllabus will be more focused on cultural studies, while the Linguistic and literary studies curriculum will concentrate on the analysis of literary texts. To be awarded a degree in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation, students have to gain 180 credits. Each credit corresponds to 25 hours of learning (lectures, exercises, individual study). Credits are used to evaluate the students learning load and are gained by passing the exams and educational activities provided for in the course study programme. The academic year is divided into two semesters: first semester: from Monday, 3 rd October 2011 to Friday 23 rd December 2011. second semester: from Monday, 6 th February 2012 to Thursday, 17 th May 2012. Modules are taught within each semester, with the exception of the Foreign Language grammar classes, which are taught throughout the entire academic year. The student s yearly work-load amounts to 60 credits, thus corresponding to 180 credits in total. The lecture timetable is published on-line on the faculty web site: http://www.uniss.it/php/lingue.php Students should attend their grammar module classes regularly. Lecturers will suggest appropriate programmes for students who are unable to attend lectures. Lecture attendance is highly recommended for all modules. POSTGRADUATE DEGREE COURSE IN LANGUAGES, CULTURES AND INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATION (CLASSE LM-38) (D.M. 270/2004) Prospectus The postgraduate degree in Languages, Cultures and International Communication is a two-year course. To be awarded a degree in Languages, Cultures and International Communication, students have to gain 120 credits. Each credit corresponds to 25 hours of learning (lectures, exercises, individual study). Credits are used to evaluate the students learning load and are gained by passing the exams and educational activities provided for in the course study programme. The academic year is divided into two semesters: first semester: from Monday, 3 rd October 2011 to Friday 23 rd December 2011. second semester: from Monday, 6 th February 2012 to Thursday, 17 th May 2012. Modules are taught within each semester, with the exception of the Foreign Language grammar classes, which are taught throughout the entire academic year. The student s yearly work-load amounts to 60 credits, thus corresponding to 180 credits in total. The lecture timetable is published on-line on the faculty web site: http://www.uniss.it/php/lingue.php Students should attend their grammar module classes regularly. Lecturers will suggest appropriate programmes for students who are unable to attend lectures. Lecture attendance is highly recommended for all modules. At the end of the degree course, with 180 credits and the presentation of a final dissertation, students will be awarded the academic title of dottore magistrale in Languages, Cultures and International Communication.
