During the journey of your studies, you have met a lot of Professors, experts from the ICT and Utility sector and, of course, many new class mates. Some of you became friends and will stay in contact. If only for this reason, the iimt study was worthwhile. Additionally you learned heaps of new terms, completed several case studies and gained insights into the iimt world. As Head of Executive Programmes, I guided you through the different subject areas. But despite the pressure of writing examinations and papers, despite the ups and downs, I am sure that you also enjoyed your iimt journey. I tried to do my best so that it was comfortable at the iimt, and helped you also to overcome the little problems, like access to the secure network, ordering a new password or initialisation of your Campus Card. Half of you made a journey within the journey and went to Cambridge to complete one or more modules at our partner University. Ultimately, the most important thing is that you made a lot of memories & impressions during your study time. Cherish them! iimt Leaders Launch 2013 Made in Switzerland Between innovation & tradition A unique event where interesting discussions and exceptional people get together in a great atmosphere. This year's Leaders Launch - Talk & Dine Event took place on the 28 th November 2013. This event combines the graduation of our institute and a fascinating panel discussion. About 80 persons took part in this event and gathered at the Gutenberg Museum. This was the occasion to bring together Graduates, their family, academics and leaders from the industry. 16 students graduated: 11 received an, 3 EMBA in Utility Management and 2 CAS Utility Management. In addition, the ceremony also presented 2 Awards: the "Best Paper" Award, and the "Best Management Summary" Award. "Made in Switzerland - Between innovation & tradition" with top speakers from Swiss industries. The iimt was pleased to welcome Roberto Maugeri-de Graaff (Head of Key Account Management, Alpiq In-Tech Management AG), Dominique Mégret (Head of Swisscom Ventures, Swisscom Schweiz AG), Jean-Luc Mossier (Director, Economic Promotion Freiburg), Thomas Steiner (Director FRIBOURG REGION) and Walter Steinlin (Chairman, Commission for Technology and innovation CTI ); Thomas Mauch (Publishing Director, Blogwerk SA) hosted the discussion. In the late afternoon, the participants had the opportunity to interact, meet new people and network around a hearty appetizer. The programme started at 2:00 p.m. with the official graduation. The Graduates have completed their educational programme during employment; they gained the analytical, functional and interpersonal skills necessary for success in an increasingly complex and dynamic, global business and management environment. iimt News Promotion of project proposals IRiSS and SAIL The local Research Committee of the SNSF has approved the promotion of the IRiSS and SAIL projects through the research pool of the University of Fribourg. Both projects will be developed at the Chair of Management in Information and Communication Technology, under the direction of Prof. Dr. S. Teufel. The project IRiSS (interest groups and roles in the future Swiss electricity market) deals with topics such as changes in the electricity market, needs and interests of market actors, as well as the effects and new business models based on the Fribourg Energy Management Framework; it also considers the development of power systems of the future and the associated risks and opportunities. The project SAIL (Social Media Performance Monitoring Tool) addresses issues in the topic of Social Media Performance, especially in the context of non-profit organisations and public administrations. The objective is the development of "authorities or NPO suitable" indicators that can be implemented in a proper monitoring tool. Both projects are preparing subprojects for larger research work. iimt at SKIMA2013 and EECS2013 Two scientific papers of the Chair of Management in ICT were accepted in a double blind peer review process for the following conferences: 7 th International Conference on Software, Knowledge, Information Management and Applications (SKIMA 2013), and 3 rd International Conference on Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS2013). The contributions are: A dynamic management tool for the analysis of the social media security culture in organizations by S. Teufel and J. Dicken; and Independent Mobile Payment System by C. Kaiser and S. Teufel. Both papers are accepted for oral presentation and will be published in the corresponding conference proceedings. For more informations about the paper of C. Kaiser, you can read the Institute Report available in the iimt Webshop. The title is: "Entwicklung eines Mobile Payment Systems mit integrierten CRM- Massnahmen" (ISBN 978-3-905814-39-2). News from the iimt Institute Council Walter Steinlin, Swisscom (Schweiz) AG / CTI, took over the presidency of the iimt Institute Council the 11 th of November 2009 for a presidential term of 4 years. At the meeting of the Institute Council on the 13 th of November 2013, Walter Steinlin was re-elected for another presidential term. We would like to congratulate Walter Steinlin and thank him warmly for his commitment. Dr. Bernhard Kessler, Revendex Group AG, was also elected on the 13 th of November 2013. iimt News / iimt Executive Programmes News from the iimt Advisory Board Walter Frei Walter Frei resigned on the 19 th of November 2013 as a member of the iimt Advisory Board. Walter Frei supported the iimt actively during the last 20 years in different functions, amongst others as president of the Institute. He is stepping down from the iimt Advisory Board. All iimt staff members as well the members of the Advisory Board would like to thank Walter Frei for his remarkable engagement over the last years. We wish him all the best. Werner for the active participation and support, and is looking forward to the future collaboration. iimt Success Story by Markus Zehnder, iimt Alumni Much has changed in the world of business in recent years; technology is evolving at a rapid rate and as a result is having a tremendous impact on the way we do business. International business has become common place. This means that in order to be successful, one must be able to adapt easily to change, identify opportunities and be respectful of cultural differences. In my last 4 years I worked as regional director for an international German ICT consulting company. In this role I operated more like a small company within a large company and had to manage a broad range of issues from HR to Marketing Management. I strongly believe that the iimt emba degree was essential in enabling me to realise my international career. The broad iimt studies prepared me for the complexity presented by a fast paced international market and helped me identify the key drivers of the Russian telecom market and how to choose best the Cross-Cultural Business Practice between Russians and Germans. I was also able to advise Russian regulatory bodies regarding International Telecom law developments and advise them on the possible impact upon their business. I could also support and mentor many international colleagues in Moscow when they were struggling to adapt to the dynamic Russian market even with their well-known MBA degrees. I attribute my studies with the iimt to being able to help me thrive in the international business environment by providing me with the structure and the boundaries that helped me make the best possible decisions. For all who need a broad, serious, MBA background, I can highly recommend the iimt from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. After completing my EMBA at the iimt I lived for close to eight years in Russia where I worked for two international ICT companies. Compared with the rest of the European ICT market, Russia is growing at a much faster pace. Furthermore, the dynamic behavior of the market creates new challenges and opportunities not necessarily witnessed in other areas. Politics, new regulations, the influences of other business cultures, lax rule of law along with a strong demand for new ICT products and services requires a certain level of flexibility and awareness to make the best possible decisions.
