Egnyte App for Android Quick Start Guide Introduction Welcome to the Quick Start Guide for the Egnyte App for Android. This guide will explain how to: Access files. Download content for offline access. Share files. Adopt security best practices. Signing in You can login to your Egnyte account by entering your email address and password. If your email address is linked to multiple accounts, you will be prompted to pick one account.
You can also log in using your custom Egnyte domain (e.g. https://westcoastlens.egnyte.com), username, and password. For other login options, such as SSO, please refer to the complete User Guide. Accessing Files Upon logging in, you will see the root level of your account s file structure. You can browse through your folder hierarchy by clicking a folder s name. Similarly, you can view an individual file within a folder by clicking on its name. The mobile app has been enhanced to easily scroll and view images and other files. Select Gallery to view your current folder s photos in an image gallery.
You can perform various file actions, such as deleting, copying, moving, sharing, etc., by tapping Select and picking the individual file(s).
Downloading Files & Working Offline You can download any file or folder to your device for offline access. This allows you to access content from anywhere, at any time, without an Internet connection. To mark a file or folder for offline access, tap its icon to open the file action menu and select Mark Offline. Any files you mark as offline will conveniently appear in the OFFLINE tab. You can navigate to the OFFLINE tab by swiping through or clicking on the tab.
Updating local files can be done by clicking Update All from the menu at the bottom of the OFFLINE tab. Uploading Photos or Videos The Egnyte app is fully integrated with Android s native file picker so you can easily upload any file(s) stored on your device. Select Upload from the bottom menu of the FILES tab to begin. Select the desired file(s) and click Upload to finish. Note, you can also upload multiple photos and videos created with your mobile at once by long-tapping a file.
Upload from an Email Attachment To upload attachments from your email client, simply click on the attachment from within your email. Pick Egnyte from the dialog box to open the file and you will be prompted to select the appropriate folder path in your Egnyte account. Note: To save time, you can set Egnyte as the default program for opening email attachments. Select Always in the dialog box above to do this.
Sharing Files and Folders To share files or folders, select them and then pick the Share Link option from the right hand side menu. You will then be prompted to choose the sharing parameters for your link (permission, duration, etc.).
To share your link through Egnyte, enter your recipient s email address or search for it from your device s address book. Alternatively, you can click Copy Link, which will make the link available on your clipboard, so you can paste it to your preferred communication platform on your Android device (SMS, email, etc.) and send the link to your recipient from there. From the dropdown menu under the This Link Can Be Viewed By label you can choose the access level for the link from the following options: Anyone: anyone with the link can access the file. Anyone with password: Anyone with the link and a password (user generated) can access the file. Only account users: only users in the same domain can access the file. Only account users I send this link to: only the recipients of the link can access the file. You can also increase the link s security by clicking View link options. You will see two additional options: 1. Link tracking: choose to be notified via email when your recipient(s) access your link. 2. Link expiry: set an expiration criteria (by date or # of clicks) for the link. Bookmarking Folders To bookmark a folder for quicker access, start by navigating to that folder. Then tap the star icon to the right of the folder s name.
You can access any bookmarked folders from the BOOKMARKS tab by clicking the tab or swiping twice from FILES to get there. Clicking on a bookmarked folder will route you to that folder s path. Security Best Practices You can use the features below to help keep your data safe when you are using the mobile app. Refer to the complete User Guide for more details. Passcode lock: see below. Two-step login verification: requires a second step for authentication when logging into the app. Session timeout: ensures automatic logout from the app after a designated amount of time. Remote wipe: allows you to remotely wipe Egnyte data from your device. Local storage encryption: encrypts the Egnyte data you have downloaded to your Android device. Offline storage controls: let you choose whether to allow offline access to data from the Android device. One of the more popular features among the application users is passcode lock, which lets you set a four digit PIN that is specific to the Egnyte app.
You can also set the timeout duration for the passcode. You will be required to enter the passcode again after an inactivity period that you configure with this setting. In order to protect against data breaches, you also have an option of erasing Egnyte data stored on your device after 10 incorrect password attempts.
