TRASH RAKES TRASH RAKES Trash Rakes are heavy duty raking devices used to remove extremely heavy debris and are usually found upstream of the pump station or Traveling Water Screen. Trash Rakes are typically supplied as a stationary unit or as a traversing unit that serves more than one bay. Typically Trash Rakes are the first line of defense in an intake structure. They are also known as Bar Screens. These rakes are suitable for dealing with large amounts of debris, such as trash, limbs, logs and weeds. Trash Rakes have a high throughput; they are very reliable and require very little maintenance. This rugged design has proven to handle thick debris that can clog or block other water intake equipment. Materials of Construction: Carbon Steel, Hot Dipped Galvanized, Stainless Steel, some components can be non-metallic composites. Toll Free: 877-654-3900
TRASH RAKES Trash Rakes main function is to prevent large pieces of debris from reaching the intake, which reduces the chances of damage and downtime for other equipment. For more information on how a Trash Rake could help your intake system, please call us at (225) 654-3900 or visit our website

CHAIN TENSIONING OPTIONS - The standard take-up system, equipped with rod, capstan and thrust bearing, requires manual adjustment The spring suspension system is built to maintain the necessary tension to keep carrier loops operating effectively and requires minimal adjustment. TAKE-UP BEARINGS - the head shaft bearing housings are available with bronze bushings or with antifriction roller bearings. FOOTSHAFT BUSHINGS - Standard footshaft and foot sprocket bushings and bearings are made of bronze. However, due to the difficulty of maintaining boot section components underwater, SSI highly recommends that these bushings and sleeves be manufactured out of a superior cobalt/nickel alloy called Stoody. COATINGS - The standard coating for a carbon steel traveling water screen frame and its components is a two part epoxy rated for immersion service. Also available are coatings designed for specific tasks, such as inhibiting marine growth (e.g. zebra mussels) or providing better protection in waters laden with chlorides or other corrosive elements. Your SSI sales representative can help you select the best coating for your application.
FISH HANDLING TRAVELING WATER SCREENS Section 316B of the Federal Water Pollution Center Act has required that some traveling water screen users implement fish handling devices. These devices minimize the adverse environmental impact on marine life that come in contact with traveling water screens. All traveling water screens can be upgraded to fish handling designs. SSI has several engineered design modifications that significantly reduce adverse environmental effects to marine life. The basic components to be considered are: Baskets with fine or vertical slot mesh and fish buckets/pans. Additional low pressure discharge spray headers. Additional above-grade return troughs. RISTROPH FISH BASKET New splash housings and housing extensions. Upgraded drive assemblies for continuous running to limit fish impingement. FISH SURVIVAL DESIGN - Where EPA regulations dictate, your traveling water screen may be fitted to the special baskets, spray wash headers and troughs to help assure the survival of marine life.
