NZQF NQ Ref 0967 Version 6 Page 2 of 6 National Certificate in Dairy Farming (Artificial Insemination) with strands in Site Technician, and Industry Technician Level 2 or 4 Credits 43 or 53 Purpose This qualification is designed for people carrying out artificial insemination in the dairy industry. The qualification is focused on the skills and knowledge required by individuals to artificially inseminate cows. The Site Technician strand recognises the skills required for technicians to artificially inseminate cows in their own workplace. The Industry Technician strand recognises the skills required to artificially inseminate cows in a commercial situation, or for other farmers. This qualification is tightly packaged around the artificial insemination of cows. People may progress to this from Agriculture Industry Training Organisation qualifications at levels 2 and 3. Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). NZQF NQ Ref 0967 Version 6 Page 4 of 6 Transition Arrangements Version 6 Version 6 was issued following the replacement of this qualification by the New Zealand Certificate in Artificial Insemination of Livestock (Level 4) [Ref: 2467]. Previous versions of the qualification Version 5 was issued following a concurrent standard and qualification review following feedback from industry to indicate the generic sector requirements were not fundamental to competent performance of a technician s role. Changes to structure and content level of the Site Technician strand was reduced from 4 to 2 details of standards were updated to reflect changes made at review standards 25714 and 23541 were added to the compulsory section standards 19082, 19086, and 19116, and the Core Elective List were removed from the qualification, as they are no longer required by industry exemptions for standard 21757 were removed as the skills between the standards are no longer considered transferrable in this context total credits decreased from 56 or 64 to 43 or 53. Training programmes or courses for version 5 of the qualification may start as soon as the qualification is registered. People currently enrolled in programmes leading to award of version 4 of this qualification may either complete that version by 31 December 2012 or transfer to version 5. It is strongly recommended that people transfer to the new version of the qualification as soon as possible. The last date for entry to training programmes or courses for version 4 is 31 December 2009. The Agriculture Industry Training Organisation intends that no existing candidate is disadvantaged by this review. Any person who feels disadvantaged by the transition should contact the Agriculture Industry Training Organisation at the address below. Version 4 was revised because it was intended that both strands of the qualification should be at level 4. The elective rule for the Site Technician strand of the qualification had changed, and candidates were required to complete an additional 6 credits at level 4 or above for a total of 15 credits at level 4 or above. Total credits required for the qualification with the Site Technician strand had increased from 50 to 56. Version 4 of this qualification contained standards that replaced earlier standards. For the purposes of version 4 of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the replaced standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards see table below.
