Speakers Thomas J. Wimbiscus, a registered U.S. patent practitioner, has over twenty-five years of experiences and practices in all areas of intellectual property litigation, as well as the acquisition and management of patent, trademark and copyright protection. He was named as recommended intellectual property counsel by an independent global survey conducted by Practical Law Company (PLC Global Counsel 3000, Choose Your Counsel Wisely (7 th 16 th eds.) (now called PLC Which Lawyer? Yearbook)) for the years 2002 2011. He was also named as a recommended practitioner by the Practical Law Company in PLC s Cross-Border IP Business Transactions Handbook for 2008-2011. Tom was also named as both a Best Attorney and a Leading Lawyer (2004 2011, awarded to fewer than five percent of licensed Illinois lawyers) by independent survey. His litigation successes, which include numerous multi-million dollar awards and settlements, include two recent patent infringement trial victories before the U.S. International Trade Commission. Kathrin started her patent law career with a large German IP law firm and then joined a major international Pharma Company, for which she worked out of Germany and France. Kathrin joined Dr. Volker Vossius in 2011. Kathrin is admitted before the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Federal Patent Court, the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market, and the European Patent Office. Kathrin has successfully passed the CEIPI diploma course Patent Litigation in Europe of the University Robert Schuman in Strasbourg. Kathrin has long-term experience in the area of industrial property, especially in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry and medical technology and is active in all matters of intellectual property rights, in particular in the fields of patent, utility model, trade mark and design model rights as well as in licensing- and litigation matters of patent and utility model rights. Kathrin studied Human Biology / Theoretical Medicine (main fields: molecular biology, biochemistry and cellular biology) at the Philipps University in Marburg, where she obtained a Master s Degree (Dipl. Hum. Biol.). She then started her Ph.D. work with Prof. Rolf Müller at the Institute of Molecular and Tumor Biology (IMT) at the Philipps-University Marburg in the field of molecular biology. Dr. Susanne Schollweck is a patent attorney and joined the Law Firm Dr. Volker Vossius in 2010. Susanne started her career with a large IP firm which operates internationally and continued to work in another IP law firm. Susanne is admitted before the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Federal Patent Court and the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market. She is active in all matters of industrial property rights, in particular patent, utility models, trademark and design prosecution as well as licensing and litigation matters in the field of intellectual property. Susanne studied physics (special focus on physiochemical engineering) at the Munich University of Applied Sciences, as well as metal technology (special focus on product and precision engineering) and chemistry at the Technical University of Munich. In her thesis she worked on training concepts for industrial vocational training in the field of control engineering and received a scholarship from the "Bund der Freunde der Technischen Universität München". Georg finished his studies of Biology at the Friedrich-Alexander-University, Erlangen- Nuremberg, Germany, with a Diploma thesis at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Department of Microbiology in Zurich, Switzerland. Georg made his Ph.D. thesis at the Institute of Microbiology and Genetics, Georg-August-University in Göttingen, Germany, and the Institute of Biochemistry, Microbiology & Genetics, Friedrich-Alexander- University, Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. Part of his Ph.D. work was done in cooperation with the 1976 Nobel Price winner in chemistry, William N. Lipscomb, from Harvard University, USA. Georg was a visiting scientist at the Department of Chemistry, Harvard University, USA and the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of California, Berkeley, USA, and a postdoctoral fellow at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Department of Cell Biology, Zurich, Switzerland. Georg is a member of and participates in the specialized comities "Industrial Property Rights and Technical Contracts" and "German-US-American Co-operation" of Bio Deutschland, and is also a member of scientific organizations. Jörk is admitted before the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Federal Patent Court, the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market, and the European Patent Office. He has successfully handled numerous patent applications, oppositions, nullity, and opinion matters, in particular in context of licensing procedures, in the fields of biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology, and chemistry on behalf of national and international clients. He is representing well known European, US, and Japanese companies. Jörk studied chemistry at the Technical University Berlin (TU) and biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), U.S.A. He obtained a Master's of Chemistry (Dipl. Chem.) at the TU Berlin. He then started his Ph.D. work with Prof. Rolf Müller at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Tumor Research (IMT) at the Philipps-University Marburg. The Ph.D. was followed by postdoctoral research with Prof. Robert Tjian at the University of California, Berkeley, USA. Jörk received fellowships of the "Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes", the German- American Fulbright Commission, the "Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds, Foundation for Basic Research in Medicine", the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and an EMBO Postdoctoral fellowship.
