Online Courses Thinking about taking an online class? Read this before you register for the class. Online does not mean checking in whenever you feel like it! Students participating in electronic learning courses have greater freedom of scheduling, but electronic courses require more selfdiscipline than traditional on-campus classes. Electronic courses require much more time than oncampus courses and are generally harder than traditional classes. You can expect to spend anywhere from 10-15 hours per week per online course. Also, many of the traditional courses taught at South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) are enhanced by the wide utilization of computer and Moodle/ Joule Technologies. Online Courses Students taking online courses will be utilizing SLCC's Moodle/Joule E-Learning Platform. Students need to be self-motivated, with good study and time management skills: they need to be computer literate, be goal oriented, capable of learning on their own through reading, research, and assignments, be able to save and manage files on their computer, know how to send and open e-mail attachments, check e-mail, access the Internet, and participate in their online course at least 3-5 times per week. Some courses require access to certain software programming. First-Time Online Students If you are interested in Online courses, register as soon as possible. Online courses have a maximum enrollment of 20 students. Orientation for online courses is available. The orientation may be completed either online of by attending a face-to-face session. Although optional, completion of the orientation is strongly encouraged. Check the SLCC library website www.southlouisiana.edu/library at the beginning of the semester for the orientation schedule and registration instructions.
