INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Computers are nearly everywhere in our society. We interact with technology in many aspects of our life including academics, work and even our social lives. Preparing students to become computer literate is essential. Becoming computer literate goes beyond knowing how to type a paper or send an email. It means understanding the capabilities and limitations of our technological world, and enabling students to use the computer with its associated technology more efficiently, productively and ethically. This hands on, project-based course will help students understand and solve the challenges that our digital society faces. Students will learn the main function of the computer and how information is processed. Using computer technology (email, IM, blogs, podcasts, etc.) effectively in their academic, personal and future career will be explored. Learning how to navigate and search the web efficiently will ensure that student s time spent on research will be useful and productive. The course will address key issues that relate to technology and ethics, challenging students to develop their own ethical principles.
