What does IAI mean? The Illinois Articulation Initiative The Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) is a statewide transfer agreement on courses transferable among more than 100 participating colleges or universities in Illinois. IAI works best for students who know they are going to transfer but are undecided on the college or university that will grant their baccalaureate degree. All colleges and universities participating in the IAI agree to accept a package of IAI general education courses in lieu of their own comparable first and second year general education requirements. Keep in mind, the IAI General Education transfers as a package. Course-tocourse transfer is not guaranteed. Transferology.com - Students create an account, then they can enter the WCC course number and see if the dual credit course will transfer to the college of their choice.

Dual Credit Ensuring Quality All courses must comply with standards established by the Illinois Dual Credit Quality Act and the Illinois Community College Board.

Ensuring Quality ICCB Administrative Rules (1501.507-11) State Laws, Regulations, and Accreditation Standards All state laws, regulations, standards, and policies that apply to courses on campus must also be followed when offering dual credit courses

Instructors Ensuring Quality Dual credit instructors must meet the same requirements as instructors who teach the class on-campus. This includes having the appropriate credentials.

Ensuring Quality Qualification of Students Dual credit students: Have appropriate academic qualifications Have a high level of motivation Have adequate time to devote to the dual credit course Meet all college prerequisites and testing requirements

Ensuring Quality Placement Testing and Prerequisites Dual credit students must satisfy all course placement tests or course prerequisites (when applicable) to assure that they have the same qualifications and preparation as other college students.

Ensuring Quality Course Requirements Dual credit courses must be the same as those offered on campus. Same course outlines Same content Same course prerequisites Same descriptions Same requirements Same learning outcomes Same methods of evaluating students

The Basic Questions

When and where is it taught? When - The dual credit courses are taught during the normal school day and fit right into your student s schedule. Where At your student s school.

Who teaches it? 2 different models at Oswego: 1. The class is taught by an Oswego teacher who meets all the criteria to be an adjunct instructor at Waubonsee Community College and has been approved by the college. (English & Automotive) 2. The class is taught by a Waubonsee Community College instructor that travels to the Oswego campuses. (Criminal Justice)

What is the cost? For courses taught by Oswego staff, the class is tuition free for students. Waubonsee tuition is normally $104 per semester hour. Students only pay a student fee of $8/semester hour. For courses taught by Waubonsee staff, students must pay full tuition and the student fee.

How do I pay? Students pay the entire amount due for student fees and/or tuition to CUSD308. Waubonsee bills the district each semester for the total costs.

What are the savings? English 101 and 102: (6 semester hours) Per credit Total Your dual credit costs $8 $48 At Waubonsee $112 $672 At Northern Illinois University $342 $2,052 At Aurora University $590 $3,540 At Northwestern University $1950 $11,700

How do my grades affect me? You must earn a C or better to move on to the next class and to earn Waubonsee credit. You are beginning an official college transcript - a poor grade can affect your GPA and financial aid. If a student earns a D or F in a class, they are withdrawn and receive a W on their official college transcript. No credit is awarded. They still earn the D or F for their high school grade.

How do my grades affect me? Financial Aid: Students must successfully complete 67% of their courses in a term at Waubonsee or they will be placed on Warn status. students on WARN must earn at least a 2.0 GPA and complete all courses attempted during their next semester of enrollment at Waubonsee. Applies to students continuing on at Waubonsee

Benefits of Dual Credit Save time Start college early, finish early Be college ready Prepare for college level curriculum Earn college credit at little to no cost Start your college GPA with supports from your high school and Waubonsee Start your degree before leaving high school Studies show that dual credit increases the likelihood that a student will complete high school, and enroll in and persist in college
