4 Dual Credit Simply stated, dual credit is any class offered for both high school and college credit. OEHS offers many Dual Credit courses that transfer to Waubonsee Community College, four year colleges, and career programs. Students accepted for enrollment in college-level dual credit courses must have: Appropriate academic qualifications A high level of motivation Adequate time to devote to studying

5 Dual Credit/AP Comparison Dual Credit Students earn a college grade and credits based on multiple and varied assessments throughout the course Taught by qualified college faculty with a Master s degree in the subject area Must meet testing requirements and prerequisites for enrollment Program is managed by a nationally accredited educational institution Cost can be significantly reduced for a college course (pay fees only currently $8 per credit hour through WCC) Advanced Placement Student is awarded credit, not a grade, based only on the results of a high-stakes test Taught by teachers trained by the College Board Open for enrollment Program is managed by a corporate entity with no academic accreditation Student often pays for the cost of the test (currently $96 per test). *Articulated Credit Credit awarded if a student earns a B or better in a course. This credit can be applied retroactively. Usually related to Career and Tech Ed courses.

6 How does it work? Dual Credit Students take a Waubonsee course at OEHS. Taught by OEHS staff member who is qualified Adjunct Faculty at Waubonsee. -Master s in subject area or Master s with 18 graduate credit hours in the subject Students receive credit towards graduation and college credit. Most transfer to any college/university in Illinois (IAI).

7 What does IAI mean? IAI Illinois Articulation Initiative: agreement states that colleges in Illinois will accept the class as transfer credit into their college.

9 Dual Credit Grading Policy Possible Waubonsee grades: A B C W (Dropped from Dual Credit but would earn D or F towards HS transcript) No D, F, or I towards a Waubonsee transcript

10 How do my grades effect me? C or better to move on in sequences Cannot progress on a Waubonsee path with anything lower than a C Building an official college transcript Could be placed on WARN status (affects financial aid)

12 How do I get my transcript? Online Visit Cost - $5 (all major credit cards accepted) Also track your order online and/or through alerts In-Person, Mail or Fax Complete a transcript request from and submit in person, by mail, or fax. Cost - $10

Cost of Oswego East HS Dual Credit courses this semester (students pay fees only): OEHS Dual Credit: $24 per 3 cr class Tuition Cost to Families IF Taken At Nearby Colleges: Waubonsee (Tuition + fees per credit hour = $118): $354 NIU (Tuition per credit hour = $349): $1047 Aurora University (Tuition per credit hour = $630): $1890 *Additional savings for fees and books not indicated.

14 Student Responsibilities Code of Conduct (classes at WCC or online are subject to the college s Code of Conduct) Plagiarism/Cheating -May be communicated to WCC and could end up in WCC sanctions Course withdrawals must be initiated through your guidance counselor
