ASHFORD & CRANBROOK ROOFING a company on top Craftmanship & Service come as standard

A ÔRealÕ family business Albert Edward Wills would have been proud to know that his small building and roofing business he began circa 1910 in Charing Heath would be passed down three generations. The ancient craft of Kent peg tiling as we know it, was passed down from Albert to Derek. Derek Wills has followed on from his father and his sons have followed on from him. The family business of Kent peg tiling is a proud heritage that will continue to be entrusted to the next generation for decades to come. The company has widened its range of skills to keep up with the ever evolving construction industry, in order to service the need for prestigous new housing. This breadth of knowledge and versatility is the reason why the family trade survived where many others faltered in the recession and we continue to work with local esteemed builders and organisations, providing a service second to none. Ashford & Cranbrook Roofing is a member of the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) We have an on going commitment to the continued training and development of our employees. It is important to us that we invest time and effort now to ensure the future of the company and promote high quality of works throughout the industry. As a result of our company policies and business planning we have been awarded the 'Investor in people' achievement. Award Winning Quality Wayne Wills wins at the Clay Tile Council National Awards 2004. Taxes Oast, a residential property in Marden, Kent recently won "The Best Refurbishment Housing category" and the property was praised for it s creative and innovative use of clay tiles. We suggested the use of clay roof tiles on the project to ensure the roof matched the roofscapes seen in the surrounding areas of Kent and to retain Kent s local heritage. David Graham Chairman of the Clay Tile Council was quoted as saying the award was for "Extraordinary Workmanship and Quality" The project was judged alongside hundreds of quality roofing projects carried out nationwide. The judging committee included representatives from the following organisations. Clay Roof Tile Council, Institute of Historic Building Conservation and Senior Architect English Heritage. This Oast (below) was originally a square kiln, it was rebuilt from a square base to a round top to give a more aesthetic look to the property with the cowl in place. The Architect and resident in charge designed the change meticulously down to building a scale model. This said it was down to the craftsmanship skills of our roofers to tile the challenging shape. "They provide good quality work at the right price and their ability to co-ordinate with our work programmes is an added bonus, thus ensuring continuity on our projects." R. D. Sparrow, Sparrow Builders & Developers Ltd 2 3

New Build & Extensions We combine our breadth of knowledge and experience of traditional roofing to provide a comprehensive roofing service covering all aspects of new build. From tiles, slates and interlocking tiles to more traditional cedar shingles. The company can help any self builder with roof covering design. We give up to date information on best buys in any quantities, ensuring savings, essential in this competitive market. Slating Slate is an age old trade and one which is different to all the other roof crafts. It must be performed correctly, with care to provide a smooth, beautiful, water tight finish. This trade has been mastered by our roofers over many years and our work can be seen on houses, barns, french manoirs, polo complexes and many more. Slates come in many sizes, shapes and colours. Our experts can help you choose the best option to suit the budget and surroundings of the project. Our slate roofs will enhance any project. Roof Renewals We offer a complete overhaul service for your roof. Every roofer in the land will offer the same service. What we offer ahead of others is the quality and standards that years of experience working with the public has generated. Our well developed skills base means we can offer a complete renovation of any roof. We can renew all or as little of the timber structure as required. We can strip and renew in timber or plastic your fascia, soffits and cladding. We can renew gutters in new plastic or aluminum cast heritage. Your entire roofing needs can be left safely in our hands. Projects Large & Small We have an extensive highly skilled workforce well suited to large construction projects. We have developed Health and Safety programmes to ensure the needs of developer, builder, consultants, local authorities and customers are met. Our strong relationship with our suppliers means we can provide quick deliveries at extremely competitive prices. Our experience can help with roof covering design and we can advise on up to date best buys in all quantities. The diversity and breadth of our expertise means we can cater to all your differing site needs. Our site teams have Bumpa machines to give quick delivery and load up times therefore reducing site access problems and material losses. Our teams of roofers and their labourers are trained to work with the client in mind. Our staff are all apprentice trained to recognised NVQ 2 or 3 standard via on site or college work release programmes. Sites will be kept clean and to a high degree of safety. Disturbance will be kept to a minimum and areas stripped will be secured against the weather at all times. The West Kingsdown estate shown was designed closely with CM Management of Tonbridge. Plain Redland Hedgerow Brown concrete tiles for the roofs provided an economical covering. Whilst the tile hanging was in Sandtoft hand made light Red Goxhill plain tiles interwoven with featured patterns to produce a luxurious but affordable look for these executive properties. The slate project shown here is part of a residence our roofers undertook in Sark, Channel Islands. Our staff organised source and transportation of materials by sea. Our estimator worked with the client from original design to ensure an economical and aesthetically pleasing finish. "My experience with the company is that they can be relied on for punctuality, and always an awareness of health & safety when handling materials and carrying out their works. There is always a key man on site to take responsibility for any day to day problems that may occur." Chris Manwaing, CM Management 4 5

Cedar Shingles Timber has always been one of nature s more versatile, adaptable and attractive materials. Cedar in particular, with its natural attributes of strength, beauty and durability, is today one of the most popular woods for building. The rich, warm and natural colour and texture of cedar shingles gives any building a touch of natural individuality that blends aesthetically with the environment. The effects of ageing giving the pleasing gradual change to a silver grey. Velux Windows In these days of fast paced and economically minded construction, many properties are built without too much thought for the light that could naturally brighten the room. Velux roof window systems enhance any drab or dimly lit environment. Most roof surfaces and finishes can be adapted to integrate a Velux window. (Subject to local building/planning laws where applicable). Velux windows come in many sizes and a few different shapes to provide a well developed, and in our opinion, unmatchable product range to give the customer a quality roof window. Heritage & Conservation Kent peg tiling is a rare craft and should be carried out with respect to the natural materials and surroundings you are working with. We are dedicated to the upkeep of our local heritage and regularly work alongside local conservation officers, planning officials and keen minded clients, to produce a sympathetic combination of modern day techniques, old age wisdom and craftsmanship. Our roofs can be seen on a variety of structures from summer houses, estates, commercial properties to pool house complexes, barns, churches, oasts and many more. The employment of our company to renovate your Kent peg property is a sound investment in the properties heritage and will last for years to come. Our roofers were chosen to represent their craft and illustrate these techniques in heritage preservation on a project in the USA. Our craftsmanship is well respected and renowned. Oasts & Barns The ancient barn shown was carefully restored along with Davis Builders, Hawkhurst. This included renewal of shingle spire and extensive timber works throughout. The end result was to extend the life of an important local historic building. The cedar roof shown was carried out alongside local Government with a policy to use environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing materials. The finished project blends in with its surroundings beautifully. Kent peg tiling as a trade and a craft, is quite rare these days. Even rarer are the qualified craftsmen who are trained to tile a roundel. The company has based much of its apprentice training on teaching those willing to learn the art. Our knowledge and breadth of skills means that the renewal of your Oast is carried out correctly and in the firm knowledge that it will not need undue attention for many years to come. This expertise was recognised by the Clay Roof Tile Council in their prestigious 2004 National award to Wayne Wills for the renovation of the triple oast featured, above left. 6 7

Mission Statement To ensure our workforce is happy and trained. Employees will use all their capabilities and skills and be trained in all areas of their work. Provide and maintain a system in which clients requests are replied to quickly and carried out with quality. Maintain a health & safety conscious environment that is dynamic in its response to concerns. Develop as a company to the changing needs of our clients and to the ever growing roofing industry. Grow as a company with increasing demand for outstanding quality and supply of a complete service. Set standards to be followed, rather than follow standards. Testimonials "D o o b e r K D "CM Management covers many aspects of the building industry whilst carrying out their duties in project management. The projects range from medium sized housing developments, conversions and one off single dwellings. In these projects over a period of some years, we have used Ashford & Cranbrook Roofing, a family business, who have been competitive in their quotation but always maintained a high quality of workmanship and reliability on time schedules. On site they can be relied on for punctuality, and always an awareness of health & safety when handling materials and carrying out their works. There is always a key man on site to take responsibility for any day to day problems that may occur. On all of my projects Wayne has been a pleasure to work with and I would have no reservations on recommending him to future clients." Chris Manwaing CM Management "As Chartered Surveyors and Project Management Consultants, we have been involved with a number of projects in which they have been engaged. Our portfolio includes conversion of listed barns into dwellings or office units, renovation of existing properties into residential or commercial usage, as well as new-build houses. Much of the work we have undertaken for our clients is nonstandard, presenting particular challenges and requiring skilled tradesmen. Within this context, we have been associated with them for more than ten years, and during this time they have consistently delivered work of the highest quality, on time and to budget. Their particular strength is a sound knowledge and experience of their trade, resulting in the correct solution being applied to match the construction type and nature of the building. They are also able to provide a complete service, having excellent in-house carpentry and lead-working resources. In short, we would endorse Ashford & Cranbrook Roofing and look for ward to continued association in the future." Page Associates D J Page MRICS MCIOB "We have used Derek and Wayne for a number of years on our contracts. They provide good quality work at the right price and their ability to co-ordinate with our work programmes is an added bonus, thus ensuring continuity on our projects." R. D.
