Submissions must include supporting material, references, copy of your driver s licence and a high resolution photo of the nominee. Judging Criteria 1. Must be under 40 years of age 2. Be a registered builder 3. A minimum of two years in business 4. Maintains quality of workmanship and high safety standards 5. Demonstrates sound business management and ethical conduct 6. Must be a financially sound business 7. Demonstrates a high level of client satisfaction and customer service 8. Actively involved in Master Builders Association of NSW (Members who fulfil the above criteria can nominate themselves for this award if they are an entrant in the 2015 MBA Housing Awards) I nominate for the Young Builder of the Year Award. Passive solar design components such as the NatHERS and /or BASIX rating, whether the dwelling is north-facing, if there is crossventilation, if and where insulation has been installed, the type of glass used in the windows and doors, and materials used for the floors, walls, ceilings and roof, shading; 2. The active component including type of water heating, room heating, room cooling, lighting and cooking appliances, fuel choices; 3. The benefits component including comfort levels for occupants, cost effectiveness of heating and/or cooling systems, low maintenance and flexibility in house design and orientation. ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT HOUSING AWARD REFER TO ENTRY REQUIREMENTS ON PAGE 7. PLEASE NOTE THAT PROJECTS MUST MEET THE CRITERIA OUTLINED TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR JUDGING. 1. Sustainability: Describe your methods for managing environmental issues on the project entered and explain what ongoing systems have now been incorporated in your work practices for: 3.1 Waste management How waste was minimized or avoided; if materials selected were salvaged/recycled/renewable; if staff were trained in waste minimization/planning; if a waste management plan was incorporated; anticipated and actual amounts of waste (tonnes) which were avoided, reduced, reused or recycled; any estimated cost savings. 3.2 Water management/recycling How the use of water was managed including recycling of water; grey water processing and reuse; rainwater collection. 3.3 Energy management 3.4 General environmental management details A brief statement detailing any barriers that were overcome in completing this project; practices that have evolved from this project that will be used in future projects; reasons for incorporating environmental management into this project.

7 JUDGING CRITERIA All entrants must show excellence in the following criteria - n Quality of Construction n Design Challenges n Use of Materials n Value for Money n Innovation A judging panel will inspect all projects entered. Entrants will be requested to ensure the appropriate personnel are on hand during the inspection to ensure that any questions posed by the judging panel are answered. Entrants will receive at least one week's notice of the inspection time and date. Should there be a period of time during judging that is not suitable for inspection to take place (i.e. no access to home due to client on holidays), please advise the Association no later than 20 March 2015 to lessen the impact on scheduling on-site inspections. Dates unavailable for judging: ENTRY REQUIREMENTS CLOSING DATE: FRIDAY 20 MARCH 2015 (WRITTEN SUBMISSIONS) ONSITE JUDGING WILL TAKE PLACE BETWEEN 13 APRIL - 3 JULY Please note: Builder must be in attendance at the site for the inspection on the day of judging. EACH SUBMISSION MUST CONTAIN THE FOLLOWING: n Fully completed entry form including floor plans (A4 size) n Please do not bind your submission n A selection of 15 professional quality internal and external digital images. Digital images must meet the following specifications: Minimum resolution of 300 dpi (highest quality camera setting) Image size no smaller than A4 (21cm x 29.7cm) Please supply landscape format rather than portrait Format: jpeg (please no PDF, PPT or TIFF file types) Only one project per CD / USB Entrants are responsible for the quality of all images. These images are used in the audiovisual presentation and media so good quality material will better profile your entry. There are some distinct advantages of commissioning a professional photographer to take photographs of your entry. 1. Your project will be presented in the best light possible and you will have control over the images taken. 2. Professional photographs are of the highest standard and can highlight special features of your project. 3. You can use the professional photographs in your own publicity material such as your brochures, flyers and your website. YES, I require photography for my entry/entries A professional photography service is available at the following cost - $480 (inc GST) per entry Sydney metropolitan. (Additional costs will apply outside the Sydney metropolitan area). PLEASE INDICATE SITE ASPECT OF PROJECT ENTERED NORTH SOUTH EAST WEST MEDIA COVERAGE Both entrants and winners of the MBA Excellence in Housing Awards receive extensive media coverage as part of their participation in these prestigious industry awards. All entrants are featured in the MBA s Excellence in Housing Annual published in conjunction with Universal Magazines and distributed, via sales in newsagent outlets, to the wider consumer market. Winners of the Awards are featured in the special Excellence in Housing Awards issue of the Master Builder magazine, published in conjunction with Crowther Blayne Media Specialists, which is disseminated to all MBA members across NSW, on the MBA website, and listed in media releases distributed to all media by the MBA. Winners may also be featured in the special Sun-Herald supplement, published by Fairfax Media in conjunction with the MBA. Editorial comment on and photographic display of the projects entered will be at the discretion of the appropriate media and the Master Builders Association of NSW. Whilst it is the aim of the Association to feature the work of entrants accurately, there will be no responsibility taken for discrepancy, error, omission or misrepresentation of that entry in any media report. 8 CONDITIONS OF ENTRY PLEASE READ ALL CONDITIONS AND SIGN THE AUTHORISATION PRIOR TO SUBMITTING ENTRY. 1. All homes being submitted as entries must be fully completed by the closing date and must not be more than two years old. 2. The competition is open to all professional licensed builders. Owner builders are not eligible for entry. 3. The competition organisers and the judging panel reserve the right to transfer entries into a category they deem appropriate and/or reduce or increase the number of divisions and/or categories. 4. No refund of entry fee will be made after Friday 20 March 2015 if the entry is withdrawn. 5. All entries should be in the price category applicable to the total construction cost. For Divisions 4 and 5, where the cost of land is to be excluded for the purposes of publicity, this should be listed separately. This does not apply to Division The builder must obtain permission from any owner and occupant of the entry in sufficient time prior to the judging. Internal and external access to the entry for judging and/or photography must be available. 7. Each entry must be submitted on a separate form giving all details required. 8. All photography taken by the Master Builders Association of NSW photographer for the express purpose of the Excellence in Housing Awards and all related promotional activity is subject to copyright. As such this material cannot be used or reproduced by any other party(s) for purposes not associated with the Awards. 9. Editorial comment on and photographic display of the projects entered will be at the discretion of the appropriate media and the Master Builders Association of NSW. Whilst it is the aim of the Association to feature the work of entrants accurately, there will be no responsibility taken for discrepancy, error, omission or misrepresentation of that entry in any media report. 10. Photographs, as designated in the entry form, must comply with the reproduction standards of the newspapers and magazines. 11. The proprietor (owner) must give his/her consent to the building being entered into the Awards and agree to the conditions of the contest. 14. All entries must be signed by the builder and owner. 15. All entries must be located in New South Wales. 16. The MBA of NSW reserves the right to refuse to accept any entry. 17. Projects entered previously may not be resubmitted. 18. If substantial numbers are not received for a division/category, entrants will be advised and given the opportunity to enter the project into a similar division/category. Alternatively a refund will be provided.
