2 Preservation Treatments Preservative treatments are applied to timber which isn t naturally durable. They can protect against wood-boring insects and fungal decay. The correct treatment will extend the service life of the timber. At Ridgeons we can treat with two main preservatives. Osmose Naturewood Initially green, will mellow naturally. A high pressure treatment, Osmose Naturewood (AC500) is used for stock products such as Treated Featheredge and Black Barn Cladding. Osmose Naturewood will initially have an even green appearance. This will weather to a natural honey brown colour before finally fading to a driftwood grey after long term exposure to the sun. Protim Clearchoice Is a clear treatment. A low pressure treatment, Protim Clearchoice (Protim) is more suitable to joinery grade claddings which will be either used indoors or used outdoors and left clear or with a stained finish. Cut end preservative is available for both treatments. Fire Protection We are able to offer Fire retardant treatment, if required, on most claddings. The timber is treated with Osmose FirePro which has been independently accredited and has the following features: Fire Performance to Euroclass B or C Low Smoke Development Values Can be used in interior or weather protected exterior applications Resistant to fastener corrosion Humidity resistant treatment For all your timber and panel product requirements, information and pricing......with your local Ridgeons branch.

3 Timber...the material of choice With timber being increasingly specified as the material of choice for exterior and interior cladding. We have produced this guide to show the growing range that Ridgeons are able to offer. Timber cladding provides an attractive, versatile and durable external finish. Timbers environmental credentials are leading to increased usage on all building types. Why use Timber for Cladding? Appearance Not only does it look good, enhancing the external appearance of any building, it is more interesting and pleasing to the eye. The versatility of timber means it can be produced to almost any requirement. Durability Hardwoods and some softwoods such as Western Red Cedar, Larch and Douglas Fir are naturally resistant to decay. Less durable species such as European Redwood can be preservative treated to prolong life in service. Performance Along with durability and a long service life, Timber Claddings natural properties offer improved acoustic and thermal conductivity performance. Softwood European Redwood A range of Matchings and Shiplaps are available ex stock that can be preservative treated. Alternatively we can offer sawn or machined to almost any pattern, as well as priming and black base coating. Western Red Cedar, European/Siberian Larch, Douglas Fir and other softwoods are also available sawn or machined to almost any pattern. Hardwood Hardwoods such as Oak and Chestnut are more commonly used as cladding but along with many other Hardwoods can be sawn or machined to almost any pattern. Black Barn Cladding 2ex 32x175mm Sawn Featheredge Boarding. Preservative treated then Black Base coated, available from stock. Alternatively we can supply sawn or machined to almost any pattern. Ideal for barn conversions or to give a traditional appearance on new developments. Treated Featheredge Boarding 2ex 25x150mm, 2ex 25x175mm, 2ex 32x175mm Treated Featheredge is available from stock. Alternatively Featheredge can be produced sawn or planed to many patterns and also from other species. 4 ThermoWood ThermoWood is an exciting, heat treated product which enables Scandinavian Redwood to be used in areas requiring a service life of at least 30 years without the need for chemical preservation. Changes that occur during the heat treatment include: Moisture content reduced by up to 50% Timber becomes darker Improved resistance to rot Resin removed Improved weather resistance Bending strength reduced by 10-20% Splitting strength reduced by up to 50% Stability & durability improves ThermoWood is sourced from well managed and sustainable forests and the heat treatment requires no chemical additives. Along with its workability, versatility and resistance to warping this makes it an ideal timber for outdoor applications without the need for preservative treatments. Western Red Cedar Another popular stock item is Cedar Shingles. With their extremely light weight and low thermal conductivity they make an ideal roofing and cladding material. Western Red Cedar s rich warm colour and texture gives any building, inside or out, a touch of individuality that blends naturally with the environment. With ageing and weathering Cedar gradually changes colour to an attractive silver-grey. Alternatively it can be treated or stained to individual taste. Along with our stock ex 25x150mm Cedar Shiplap and ex 19x100mm Cedar T&G V-Jointed Matchboarding we can produce a wide variety of sizes and patterns. Cedar Shingles Using timber cladding has many environmental benefits. The biggest single benefit being that it is a naturally renewable resource.

5 Siberian Larch (Larix Siberia) A slow grown timber with a golden yellow colour and strong grain pattern. Unlike British Larch, the knots in Siberian Larch are light grey in colour and are less likely to fall out after Drying and Machining. Siberian Larch is very resinous and extremely hard, making it one of the toughest and most durable softwoods in the world. Therefore there is no need for further treatment. Ideal for use as a cladding where impact damage may occur. E.g. Schools, Public Buildings and Shopping Areas. Siberian Larch Finncolor Finncolor painted cladding is an economical, attractive and long lasting external timber cladding solution. Produced from Scandinavian spruce, Finncolor is initially treated with a preservative base coat and finished with two coats of a water-based acrylic paint. Finncolor Baltique RAL 5014 Sahara RAL 1015 Ontario RAL The finish cladding has a brushed grain effect offering durability suitable for Use Class 3 situations. The paint cover is applied at 350g/m 2 and is guaranteed against flaking, blistering or cracking for 10 years. Barents RAL 1013 Island RAL 7035 Etna RAL 3013 Sawn Timber Claddings Another alternative to machined claddings, where a more rustic appearance is desired. Some options are Douglas Fir F/Edge Douglas Fir Waney Edge Fresh Sawn Oak F/Edge Fresh Sawn Oak Waney Edge Douglas Fir Waney Edge All can be offered in various thicknesses and widths - please ask for more details. We are also able to offer Air Dried Character Oak Cladding Finished size 19 x 100mm (Face Cover) tongue and groove profile V jointed to both faces. The extended 11mm tongue allows for movement/shrinkage. Oak Feather Edge
