TEEX Electric Power Training Since 1940, organizations have used the electric power training programs of The Texas A&M University System to train electric power line workers, equipment operators, meter technicians, substation operators, construction and maintenance crews, crew leaders, supervisors, and other staff. The Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), Electric Power Training Program offers a complete set of technical courses designed for employees of electric cooperatives, municipal utilities, contractors, investor-owned, industrial and other organizations that are involved in the electric power industry. These courses range from Pole Climbing for apprentices to Troubleshooting Customer Line Service Complaints for journeyman line technicians. The majority of our courses are available both as open enrollment (conducted at TEEX training centers) or as contract courses (conducted on-site at your facility). We also can customize training topics to meet your training needs. Our goal is to provide the highest quality training at the lowest possible cost to the electric power industry, and to provide convenient training schedules to meet individual needs. We are constantly developing and updating courses to keep abreast of changing technology. We encourage input from you, as only our customers can help us make a great program even better. The curriculum is designed to teach both the safety and technical aspects of electric power equipment. The method of instruction for each course varies from hands-on to instructor-led. Each course is designed in a challenging manner to help achieve the maximum level of training. Skill testing is performed and continuing education credits are given for successful completion of the courses. TEEX Electric Power Training also offers customized on-site safety training. Safety instruction is taught in the form of regularly scheduled safety meetings and courses. You select the topics presented and the format of the sessions. Safety and technical topics are combined to meet your individual needs. Safety training services include instruction to electric power technicians, office staff, public works employees, mechanics, service personnel and others upon request. Special services, such as area safety accreditation, rescue training, OSHA compliance, certification, training publications and many others, are available in this program. TEEX Electric Power Training develops customized employee development programs to meet your organization's training and safety needs.

Courses EPP025 - Bucket and Digger Truck Operations EPP009 - Electric Power Principles 28 Hours 2.8 CEU s Participants of this course will be instructed in the safe operation of basic hydraulic systems used on both bucket and digger derrick units. During the delivery of this course, participants will be provided with the procedures necessary to perform daily, weekly and monthly performance checks, preventive maintenance procedures, proper positioning, and safe operation at job sites. Upon successful completion of this course, participants have the ability to perform preventive maintenance procedures and demonstrate safe operational skills for digger derricks and bucket trucks. This entry level course provides students with the principles and applications of electricity. Participants will become familiar with these principles using a combination of classroom and hands-on lab applications. Exercises using actual electrical components wired together in specified configurations help participants become more familiar with the use electrical meters needed to determine circuit value readings and apply formulas accurately when verifying findings. At the completion of this course, participants will have an understanding of electrical circuits, components, and their applications to industrial and utility equipment. EPP036 - Electrical Codes 16 Hours 1.6 CEUs Employers need highly-skilled workers who understand the uses and application of electrical codes - training is critical! By understanding the code, you will stay in compliance and avoid reworking your electrical systems. During the delivery of this course, participants will be introduced to the structure and content of both the National Electrical Code (NEC) and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). Students utilize both code requirements for proper installation of electrical equipment to home or office electrical outlets. Although not a comprehensive review of either the NEC or NESC, participants are guided through those steps necessary to locate individual codes specific to their duties using the text and tables provided in the participant manual. As participants become more familiar with the process, group search scenario activities are used to help create proficiency. EPP013 - Electrical Worker-Safe Work Practices 16 Hours 1.6 CEUs This course provides participants with an overview of the mustknow skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary to work safely around electric utility tools, materials, equipment, facilities, and systems. Throughout the course, participants utilize the American Public Power Association (APPA) safety manual and access applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards to garner knowledge and best practices established for safe work procedures and compliance regulations linked to electrical transmission and distribution system operations. At the completion of this course, participants will be familiar with the nationally recognized safe work practices, precautions, basic safe work procedures, and regulatory compliance measures linked to construction and maintenance work on electric utility transmission and distribution systems.

EPP023 - Essential Apprentice Skills This course is designed for entry-level personnel involved in the construction and maintenance of high voltage electrical distribution systems. Participants are provided terms and definitions associated with an electrical power supply system, high voltage cable systems, and overhead conductors used in transmission and distribution systems. During the delivery of this course, participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate their new skills surrounding the proper inspection and use of a voltmeter, ammeter and ohmmeter when obtaining circuit readings. Participants receive information specific to proper knots used when tying a hand line, block and tackle and other proper knot tying techniques. In addition to these skills, participants learn the components and importance of actively participating in a job briefing, how to properly assist journey line worker technicians, safely conduct themselves while on a job site, the uses of various electrical devices, how to perform vehicle inspections, and identify, inspect and store various types of tools stored on the vehicles and trailers used in line construction. EPP039 - Hot Line Training 1 - Rubber Gloving 24 Hours 2.4 CEUs Linemen must be aware of the electrical hazards associated with their industry and also be familiar with the safety equipment and procedures that enable them to perform their work safely and efficiently. This course provides participants with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform distribution work from an insulated aerial device using rubber protective cover-up and insulated hot line tools on single-phase circuits. Tasks are performed under simulated energized field conditions. At the completion of this course, participants are able to select methods and procedures to perform assigned duties on energized circuits under supervision. EPP038 -Hot Line Training 2 - Rubber Gloving Linemen must be aware of the electrical hazards associated with their industry and also be familiar with the safety equipment and procedures that enable them to perform their work safely and efficiently. This course provides participants with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform distribution work from an insulated aerial device using rubber protective cover-up and insulated hot line tools on three-phase circuits. EPP016 - Hot Line Training 3 - Rubber Gloving 24 Hours 2.4 CEUs This course is designed for industry professionals with responsibility for crew operations at the job site. At the completion of this course, participants will be familiar with assessing, planning, communicating, implementing, and supervising emergency repairs to an overhead distribution system. Participants will also learn the procedures to perform a Job Safety Analysis of an emergency distribution job by observing the crews in the performance of the jobs contained in the course. EPP017 - Introduction to Hot Stick Operations This course provides participants instruction in the maintenance of transmission and distribution circuits using live line tools and associated equipment. At the completion of the course, participants will have the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to properly select and use hot line tools to perform work on both distribution and transmission systems. EPP002 - Leadership and Supervision 1 12 Hours 1.2 CEUs This course helps current and future supervisors develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities to oversee non-managerial employees. After successfully completing this course, participants are able to identify the responsibilities of a leader, demonstrate proper supervisory techniques, and use proven problemsolving strategies to handle common employee and job-related challenges. At the completion of this course, supervisors will be able to: identify the key elements of supervision, apply proven techniques for handling problem employees, initiate team-building strategies, incorporate job performance coaching methods into day to day management tasks, implement strategies designed to increase performance of all operational staff members, and conduct employee reviews. This online course provides a foundational understanding of the basic principles of electricity and a comprehensive understanding of voltage, current, resistance, power, and their interrelationships. EPP032 - Meter Installation and Service 16 Hours 1.6 CEU s Become familiarized with the basic theories of watt-hour meter operation and the proper procedures for safe installation and removal of self-contained watt-hour meters. Upon conclusion of the course, participants will be able to perform voltage checks for all single and three phase self-contained meter installations. Additionally, participants will also have a basic understanding of the proper watt-hour meter to be used for properly measuring various electric services to include the correct form and class necessary to insure proper customer billing. EPP024 - Overhead and Underground System Maintenance 28 Hours 2.8 CEUs This skills-based course trains participants in safe work procedures for distribution system maintenance. The course is designed to work with a variety of structures as well as underground systems, repairing or replacing typical hardware and apparatus. Participants become familiar with personal protective grounding practices and are able to correctly install personal protective grounds on both overhead and underground electrical systems for safe operation. During the delivery, participants learn to perform switching and isolating procedures on a underground residential distribution (URD) system. At the completion of this course, participants are able to work as a member of a crew to replace typical pole line hardware and apparatus. EPP031 - Overhead Line Construction 28 Hours 2.8 CEUs This hands-on, skills-based course trains participants in safe work procedures for the construction of a three-phase overhead electrical distribution system with a single-phase tap. Participants work as a crew team to complete the installation of a typical overhead electrical system to include setting poles, anchors and guys, stringing out conductors and properly sagging. At the completion of this course, participants are able to work as a member of a crew to safely load and haul poles to a job site, unload, properly frame according to a staking sheet, safely set poles, install anchors and guy wires, identify the proper conductor size and type, string and layup the wire and sag the conductor using the manufacture s wire sag charts. Participants will also learn to install hand and pre-form ties to the various types of conductors used in the utility industry. EPP043 - Overhead Equipment Installation 32 Hours 3.2 CEU s This hands-on, skills-based course provides participants training on the proper procedures to be used for installation and connection of various types of electrical apparatus to an electrical distribution system. Once completed, participants operate as a team to safely accomplish all installation requirements specific to proper connectivity of electrical distribution equipment. Emphasis during this course is placed on proper equipment grounding techniques necessary to deenergize electrical power systems required to safely accomplish each task. A safety briefing (OSHA 190.269.(c)) is conducted prior to all field exercises. Lab activities include installation and connection of single-phase and three-phase transformers along with reclosers, capacitor banks, and voltage regulators. EPP011 - Personal Protective Grounding 16 Hours 1.6 CEUs This course emphasizes the importance and need to effectively ground systems and vehicles to protect the line worker as well as equipment. Emphasis is placed on potential hazards to ground personnel and the public when using protective grounding along with the purpose, testing, inspection, and application of protective grounds on overhead and underground electrical utility systems. Computer simulation software and a temporary grounding demonstrator are used to provide realistic applications. At the completion of this course, participants will have a working knowledge of protective grounding practices and the inspection, testing, and installation procedures of protective grounds as well as hazards associated with using improper equipment or configurations.

EPP037 - Power Line Re-Conductoring Participants will receive training specific to the proper set up and use of power line reconductoring tools, equipment and machines necessary to safely perform a reconductor operation on a threephase overhead distribution system. At the completion of this course, participants will able to identify the required safe work procedures, apply proper grounding techniques, position aerial devices, layout conductors, install dollies and operate tension rigs to install a new conductor into an existing system. EPP226 - Single-Phase Transformers, Regulators, and Capacitors 24 Hours 2.4 CEUs Discover the principles, theory, design, construction, and operation of single-phase transformers, voltage regulators and capacitors. Participants will be challenged with testing connections using each piece of equipment and performing hands on problem-solving exercises in a lab setting. At the completion of the course, participants will be able to calculate fuse sizes and lightning arrester protection for transformers and capacitors, establish proper single-phase connections, identify proper regulator and capacitor applications, test and maintain control settings and switching procedures and apply all associated safety rules. EPP235 - Three-Phase Transformers This advanced transformer course covers the application, operation, and connection of substation power transformers, single- and three-phase overhead and underground transformers necessary to supply three-phase power to customers at various voltage ranges. Classroom topics provide information on the operation of the transformers in various configurations with a heavy emphasis on hands-on lab work. Participants will review electrical principles as they pertain to transformer operation, the different types of connections typically used to supply power, configurations to obtain the different voltages, as well as those applications. EPP026 - Substation Equipment Operations 16 Hours 1.6 CEUs Designed to familiarize you with the layout of industry specific equipment, power transformers, oil circuit breakers, re-closers, and switchgear. Through instructor-led examples and field exercises, substation terms, symbols, and one-line diagrams are taught. At the completion of this course, you will have: the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to read a one-line diagram, the ability to identify and understand substation equipment symbols, the skills to follow substation safety requirements, and the ability to list switching procedures for various buss configurations EPP201 - Train-the-Trainer: Bucket and Digger Truck Operations Workers in bucket trucks are surrounded by potential hazards, including falling objects, danger of electrocution, falls, and tip-over risks. This comprehensive course is designed to instruct trainers on the necessary procedures required to certify operators on the operation, inspection, and required maintenance of bucket trucks and digger derricks to meet the applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards. Through the key objectives and adult learning principles, participants will have the opportunity to develop their trainer skills and practice incorporating the tools necessary to create productive and interactive lesson and presentation plans. EPP015 - Train-the-Trainer: Wood Pole Climbing Instructor 28 Hours 2.8 CEUs This course is designed to provide experienced pole climbers with the skills required to become an instructor within the industry. Through facilitated exercises, course instruction practice and demonstrations, candidate instructors are prepared to deliver wood pole climbing training. Once the instructor course has been completed, participants will have the knowledge and course materials necessary to properly assess those industry professionals wishing to receive training, set up required equipment and administer all wood pole climbing training evaluations. EPP006 - Underground Electrical Systems 24 Hours 2.4 CEUs This entry-level course is designed for industry professionals transitioning to learning about the installation and maintenance of high voltage underground electrical systems. At the completion of this course, participants will have a working knowledge of the different types of underground distribution systems, be able to identify the various types of high voltage cables and insulations used in underground distribution cables, describe proper cable installation procedures and demonstrate proper cable preparation techniques using manufacturers specifications for splicing and terminating high voltage distribution cable. The participant will also have the knowledge and skills to demonstrate the proper techniques for isolation and grounding of underground cable sections for maintenance and repair activities. EPP010 - Troubleshooting Customer Line Service Complaints Effective communication is required for industry professionals responsible for contacting the customer, investigating the complaint, researching the problem and communicating the results to both the customer and the utility organization. Using course information provided, participants will be able to recognize the responsibilities involved in troubleshooting complaints, analyze electrical service problems, explain decisions to the customer, and maintain quality customer relations. EPP004 - Underground Electrical Installation This hands-on course prepares participants to install a variety of underground system components on both 15 and 25 kv systems. Learn to install primary and secondary cable in conduit systems as well as using direct burial methods in both singleand three-phase applications. Upon completion, participants will be able to install underground system components, such as underground risers, transformers, switchgear and pedestals to facilitate the proper termination of both primary and secondary cable systems. Cable preparation tools to prepare the cable for installation of termination kits, elbow and inline splicing sleeves to connect equipment to systems are used in this course. EPP005 - Underground Electrical Troubleshooting This course provides participants with hands-on experience using various types of cable-locating and fault finding equipment. The course also familiarizes students with various switching procedures (single- and three-phase) as well as the proper procedures and equipment to ground underground circuits. After successfully completing this course, participants will be able to perform switching procedures required for single- and three-phase underground systems, perform proper isolation and grounding procedures for employee protection, read and interpret underground maps to determine circuit direction and feed, use fault-locating equipment to locate faults on both primary and secondary cables and locate cable routes accurately.
