Saving Energy in the Food Retail Industry with SCHOTT Termofrost

Glass made of ideas For us, this is not just a slogan. It is our basic philosophy at SCHOTT, because each product we make can only be as good as the innovative ideas behind it. But it is important to note that our customers are often the ones who provide the impetus for innovation. Then, they rely on us to develop products that allow them to realize even their most ambitious ideas. This is why we have made it a rule to work together with our customers rather than for them. With this in mind, we have repeatedly managed to set new standards ever since our company was first founded in 1884. Guided by our core values of competence, creativity and customer orientation, we have grown to be one of the world s leading glass technology groups by offering high-quality components and solutions for a wide variety of applications, including refrigeration of food products. Top performance from one of the leading companies Self-closing, condensation-free door systems are essential to displaying foods at the right temperature, while incurring the lowest possible energy costs. SCHOTT Termofrost glass doors are the perfect choice for use in all types of cold rooms and cooler cabinets to display and store chilled products down to +2 C, and frozen goods down to 25 C. Our glass doors for chilled and freezer cabinets are designed to display products as attractively as possible and increase their selling exposure. At the same time, they also set new standards for energy efficiency and saving space. And by displaying products in a vertical manner, you ll be able to make much more effective use of the available floor space. 2

SCHOTT NT solutions Frame-door system for normal temperature (NT) cooler cabinets for OEM and retrofit usage SCHOTT NT Standard The frame-door system helps ensure the right food temperatures and thus quality. At the same time, it reduces the energy consumption of the cooler cabinet by at least 30% compared to open cabinet solutions. Furthermore, the doors with a slim frame ensure maximum visibility of the food products on display. No mullion and the easy to activate hold open function make it much easier to replenish and remove products. The system can be easily adapted to suit any type of cooler cabinet. It is also available with a variety of different types of illumination, for instance T8 or T5 fluorescent tubes for meat light or LED lighting, to ensure that your precious merchandise is illuminated as effectively as possible. SCHOTT NT All-Glass The latest addition to our NT line. This all-glass solution offers the same advantages as our NT system, yet is designed to maximize the visibility of the products inside the cabinets. The door frame has disappeared almost completely and the frame itself has also been scaled down. And the automatic hold open function makes it much easier to replenish or remove products. The system is easy to adapt to any type of cooler cabinet and, of course, comes with the appropriate adapter kit. SCHOTT NT All-Glass 3

SCHOTT NT Single Pane The latest product from our NT line combines functionality, lightness and perfect viewing of your products. The lightness of the frameless door design fits in seamlessly with the technology of these refrigerated cabinets. The 6-milimeter thick door panes are made of safety glass. No disturbing center supports obstruct the view of the food products stored inside. A simple horizontal frame system supports the doors at both the top and bottom. These doors then close automatically due to gravity. Various types of horizontal lighting are optional. Anti-reflective glass (SCHOTT CONTURAN ) is also available on an optional basis. Durable engineering and high quality coupled with innovative solutions turn our SCHOTT NT Single Pane System into a long-lasting product. 4

SCHOTT NT Sliding Doors The sliding doors system improves food temperature and is perfectly suited as a replacement for hinged doors in cases where aisle space is important. Our sliding door systems are equipped with self- and soft closing mechanisms to ensure that no door remains open or causes noise when closed. The slim frame also ensures maximum visibility of the products on display. The system can easily be installed in any type of cooler cabinet. The sliding door system comes without any lighting, yet can easily be equipped with different types of lighting solutions, including T8 or T5 fluorescent tubes or LED lighting, to ensure the proper illumination of the products on display. Additional adapter kits are available on an optional basis. All our NT doors can also be equipped with the antireflective SCHOTT CONTURAN special-purpose glass to offer the best possible view of products. Without SCHOTT CONTURAN With SCHOTT CONTURAN 5

SCHOTT Termofrost ECO-Clear plus Polymer film Fully passive doors for deep-freeze applications Low-e glass Gas filling (Argon) Today s heated systems In 2 and 3 pane freezer doors, the heated front pane prevents condensation from forming on the outside. However, the inside fogs up when the door is opened, and it takes a while for this fog to evaporate and restore transparency. SCHOTT Termofrost ECO-Clear plus concept The SCHOTT Termofrost ECO-Clear plus door is equipped with triple glazing that offers high thermal insulation (Ug-value reduced by 50% compared with a standard heated door). SCHOTT Termofrost ECO-Clear plus doors are equipped with a laminated transparent anti-fog film on the rear pane that reduces visible condensation when the door is open. Absorbed fog evaporates after the door is closed. Areas of fog can occur. SCHOTT Termofrost ECO-S Free from condensation, half the power consumption The smart way to cut costs SCHOTT Termofrost ECO-S is a patented system designed to minimize the power consumption of our heated low temperature frame and door systems. SCHOTT Termofrost ECO-S constantly measures the humidity and temperature of the surrounding area, as well as the temperature inside the cooling chamber. On the basis of this data, SCHOTT Termofrost ECO-S supplies the exact amount of power that is needed in order to ensure that the frame and doors remain free from condensation. This goal is achieved at the same time that energy costs are minimized. SCHOTT Termofrost ECO-S consists of three maintenance-free modules: the power module, the temperature sensor for the freezer, as well as the CPU with an integrated temperature and humidity sensor for the selling floor. The LEDs that are mounted in the sales room display the system s current operating state. An investment in SCHOTT Termofrost ECO-S definitely pays off! You can save up to 60% of the heat energy that frames and doors normally consume. SCHOTT LED solution LED lighting for commercial refrigeration systems Perfect lighting for cooling and freezer units SCHOTT offers a wide selection of the most efficient LED modules on the market. The light is spread uniformly across the entire display area thanks to advanced optical lens systems. As the most common LED modules fits perfectly for use with SCHOTT Termofrost frames, they fit into the profiles just perfectly and offer increased luminous intensity in addition to being totally glare free from the customer s perspective. These systems easily fit onto the backside of the frame either horizontally or vertically. Besides, the low power consumption of LED lighting also saves a lot of the energy that is needed to run the cooling compressor because the heat generated inside the cooler/ freezer decreases proportionally (up to 85% energy savings compared to a conventional lighting system). The total cost of ownership is also low due to the life time of >50,000 h. Key advantages at a glance LEDs do not blind like conventional lighting systems Durable design Available in all standard sizes A wide range of color temperatures Different light for different products Light inside the UV wavelength range is eliminated SCHOTT LED solutions fit onto all door-frame systems Solid and professional design High quality 11
