3 Installed HVAC Systems Primary energy source large, roof mounted, solar thermal array (AET flat plate) with storage tank. System serves space heating, DHW, & summer time pool heating. Backup boiler - hot water based, wood pellet fired, high-efficiency, modulating (Froling P4). System backs up solar thermal and serves pool startup & hot tub. Secondary backup boiler - hot water based, propane-fired, high-efficiency, condensing, sealed-combustion, modulating (Heat Transfer Munchkin 140M). System backs up wood pellet boiler, and serves pool startup & hot tub. Primary HVAC delivery two variable-speed air handlers (basement & attic) to support load fluctuation, approx. 0.4 cfm/ square foot of living space, sized to allow air circulation throughout living space, integrated with ventilation system Secondary heating Radiant/thermal mass slab at Great Rm & Dining Rm consisting of 2-1/4 thick decorative concrete slab over wood framed floor, receives passive solar gain directly through windows and also heated by the solar thermal system. The thermal mass will help moderate space temperature fluctuations. Radiant floor at master bathroom over wood subfloor allow homeowners to set bathroom at lower operating temperature that master bedroom Domestic hot water Primarily heated by solar thermal system through two 45-gallon indirect tanks Backup heating by propane boiler Indirects located with 20 feet to point of use to minimize energy use Waste heat exchanger (Power-Pipe) on master bath shower drain used to temper cold water supply to shower reducing hot water usage

4 Installed HVAC Systems Air Conditioning 16 SEER two-stage (1 ton per stage) condensers sized for house load, not matched to air handler size Ventilation system two Venmar energy recovery ventilators (one per air handler) works as both bathroom exhaust (push button 20 min timer) and ventilation system tied into return air ductwork at air handlers for redistribution of ventilation air Large masonry chimney mass thermally isolated from ambient conditions Basement wood stove, supplemental/ambiance heating at basement level with dedicated makeup air source 1 st floor wood fireplace, supplemental/ambiance heating at 1 st fl level with air tight glass door and dedicated makeup air source 2 nd floor gas fireplace, supplement/ambiance heating at 2 nd fl level with direct-vent model lowest output available Emergency makeup air source activates in the event occupants operate fireplace with glass doors open and depressurization potential exists Kitchen hood exhaust isolated ductwork with back draft damper, sized based on lineal feet of cooking surface, approx. 100 cfm/lf
