This workshop teaches participants to understand the difference between analysis and synthesis during the design process. Following the acclaimed Problem Seeking methodology, the workshop participants will learn about goal setting, fact collection, concept development, needs such as area analysis, and problem definition statements. The workshop is available in three levels. Level one uses a residence as a case study; level two uses a corporate office project, level three focuses on real estate strategy. Materials 17) The Importance of Good Stair Design Hosted by Samantha Sannella Preventing falls on stairs is extremely important. The stairs in your home can be extremely dangerous. According to the Canadian Institute for Health Information, between April 1, 2001 and March 31, 2002, over 6,000Canadians fell on or from the stairs or steps in their homes and were seriously injured enough to require a hospital visit. Many Toronto homes have substandard stairs. It is the responsibility of the architect, interior designer and the contractor to ensure a safe environment for occupants. This workshop teaches the basics of stair design (including handrails), reviews why people fall, and a charrette teaches good stair design.
