New Family Welcome Letter Welcome to our OASIS family! OASIS is a unique, student-centered educational program for families who are looking for a different option than the traditional school setting. We are looking forward to partnering with you and your student to create an individualized and optimal school experience. We feel confident that your student s educational needs can be met here in our small, flexible setting as we maintain the challenge and rigor of our larger Olentangy School community. The computer software that we use here at OASIS is called APEX. The introduction to this website can be viewed once you login under www.apex.com. Once logged in, go to the right hand corner and click in order the links support, getting started, and then student getting started. There are 3 videos that on that page that should be reviewed before your first day. The videos are READY SET GO, WORKING WITH COURSES, and CHECKING YOUR PROGRESS. The website and login information is listed below for your reference. You will have access to change your password, after the first login. Principal- Jennifer Blakley Jennifer Blakley helped with the three years of research, and subsequent foundation of OASIS, in 2009. Mrs. Blakely worked in the Curriculum Department of Olentangy, beginning in 2006, and has also worked as a principal in Hamilton Township, and as a National Board Certified Teacher of English, at Beechroft and Brookhaven high schools in Columbus City. Jennifer has her B.A., M.Ed., Principal's Licensure, Superintendent's Licensure, and Ph.D. (abd), all from the Ohio State University. OASIS Math Teacher- Kelly Joseph I have the wonderful opportunity to assist your student in all Apex Math courses spanning 6 th grade through Calculus. I graduated from Virginia Tech in 1986 with a MathEd degree and a teaching license in Math7-12. I have 4 children of my own ages 14-24 and was able to home school all of them through the 6 th grade. For the past 25 years I have tutored math at all levels, across several school districts. OASIS Social Studies Teacher- Jim Brehm Jim is the primary Social Studies person and has been with the OASIS program since its inception. Jim has a B.S., M.S., Principal s Licensure, Comprehensive Social Studies Licensure and a CBI endorsement from OSU and Ashland University. Jim came to Olentangy in 2000 as a Central Office Administrator. He transferred back into the class room in 2005. Prior to that he taught and coached at Pleasant Local Schools and worked as a Labor Relations Consultant for the Ohio Education Association. Jim's primary goal is to have all students become Happy, Responsible and Productive citizens... OASIS Intervention Specialist- Tracy Tluchowski I am so excited to part of the OASIS team! I graduated from Wright State University with a Special Education degree in 1993 and earned my master's degree through the University of Dayton in 1998. I have been in education for 20 years and I have been with Olentangy Local Schools since 2001. I love watching our OASIS students grow and learn in such a comfortable environment.

OASIS CBI Instructor- Ed Terwilliger Ed has been an instructor at OASIS for the past two years and with the Olentangy School District for 24 years. Ed is a graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor s degree in education. He has multiple certifications and endorsements as a teacher including elementary certificate grades 1-5, middle school certificate grades 6-8, and a high school English certificate in vocational education as well as an occupational work adjustment supervisor. Ed received a master s degree from Ashland University in Athletic Administration. Ed has been the career based intervention instructor at Olentangy High School as well as instructor at both Olentangy High School and OASIS. OASIS Science Teacher- Debbie Heiman It is my pleasure to be part of the OASIS family! I hold a k12 Health Education teaching license as well as a Master s and Doctorate in Counseling Education. I am currently working towards an Integrated Science license as well. I have 20 years of teaching experience that spans the middle school to collegiate level. My passion is teaching Science and helping students grow both personally and academically. OASIS Middle School Teacher- Maureen Tester I am very excited to join the OASIS team! I graduated from the Ohio State University with bachelor's degrees in Environmental Education and Zoology and a master's in middle childhood education with a focus on math and science. For the past three I have taught 3 years at Horizon Science Academy Middle School. In the summers I work at Alum Creek State Park as the naturalist presenting programs for families. My favorite part of teaching is watching students grow academically and socially as they strive to reach their potential. OASIS School-Community Liaison Maggie Strickland I am one of the School-Community Liaison for the School District. Along with five other buildings, I will be assisting OASIS. I am a Licensed Social Worker with a Bachelor degree in Social Work from Bowling Green State University, and a Masters in Social Work from The Ohio State University. My role as a School Community Liaison is to assist families and school staff in supporting the whole child, with the goal of maximizing opportunities for success both in and out of the classroom and to connect children and families to a variety of services in our community.

Amy Schroff My role at OASIS is as a part-time Academic Assistant focusing on Math and Sciences. I graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Biology and a minor in Business Administration. I stay very busy with school and sports with my 3 children. My goal at OASIS is to establish an honest and trustworthy relationship with every student. I enjoy the challenge of fostering every student s learning desires and helping them grow as a unique individual. I strive on committing myself to every OASIS student by treating each one as if they were my own child. Johneen Griffin Working with a variety of students has always been my passion, that is why I am honored to be a part of the OASIS family. I am a retired Secondary Pupil Services Director with experience that encompasses thirty plus years working with students with and without disabilities. I have a Master s Degree in Special Education K-12, Administrative licensure and a Bachelor s Degree in History and Secondary Education. I have supported Alternative Educational environments for students for a number of years as many students need a more supportive and individual environment than that available in most typical public middle and high schools. My personal goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of those I touch. School Nurse- Jane McCray I am thrilled to work with the students at OASIS. I am a licensed school nurse and school counselor. I graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and earned my master's degree from the University of Dayton. I have been a school nurse for 17 years at Olentangy Local Schools. My goal as a school nurse is to provide health services and counseling support to the students in order to enhance their physical and mental growth through adolescence. Christie May My primary role at OASIS is to provide academic assistance in Math. I graduated from Cornell University in 1991 with a BS in Computer Science Engineering. I worked for Xerox as an embedded software engineer until 2004 when I decided to stay home with my girls. I have always enjoyed working with children through sports, Girl Scouts, etc. Once my youngest was in school full time, I decided to start substitute teaching for Olentangy. This allows me to combine my love of Math and Science with my love of working with children. It is my goal to help each student perform to their potential in a supportive, caring environment.

Carol Flowers I am excited to be a new part time member of the OASIS staff this school year. I retired from Olentangy High School in the spring of 2012 after teaching for 25 years in the district as an Intervention Specialist for students with and without learning disabilities. I have a Bachelor of Science in Education from Ohio State University and a Master s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Ashland University. My goal this year is to assist, motivate and encourage all students to do their very best regardless of their learning style. Teri Calcara As a retired educator of 40 that included three years of teaching Spanish and the remaining years as a school counselor, I have loved being a part of the OASIS family. My role will be in academic and administrative support on a part time basis. I graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.A. in Spanish and then a M.A. in school counseling. My career began at Bishop Watterson and then I went to Olentangy, Bexley, and Upper Arlington schools. My husband and I have one son and a daughter-in-law who are both pharmacists and live in Pittsburgh. Our grandson, Cameron, is 15 months. I am looking forward to working towards the success of the OASIS students.
