HEATING, VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING CAREERS If you re looking for a career with growth potential, training in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) field can give you the edge when it comes to servicing and repairing a wide variety of heating and air conditioning systems. Employment Growth Employment of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers is projected to increase 28 percent during the 2008-18 decade.* HVAC systems generally need replacement after 10 to 15 years. A large number of homes were built in the first decade of the 21st century, and many of these homes will soon need major maintenance and repairs. The increased complexity of HVAC systems, which increases the possibility that equipment may malfunction, will also create opportunities for service technicians. What HVAC Technicians Do HVAC technicians specialize in maintenance and repair of HVAC systems. They may also specialize in refrigeration work.
