Escape key takes you back one screen or function holding the key down returns to Home screen. While in an application, click trackball to get a short context-sensitive menu. While in an application, press the Menu key to get a full context-sensitive menu. Use trackball to scroll to menu item and click trackball again to select menu item. Auto on-off 3

BlackBerry Options A large variety of settings and features can be access through the Options icon. Commonly used options include Auto On/Off Bluetooth Date/Time (select Eastern Time) Owner Screen & Keyboard settings (change screen font & size, backlight, timeout, and Convenience keys here) Theme (change look of Home screen) Password Requirement It is recommended that you set a password to lock your BlackBerry. Password must be 4 or more characters, any combination. Submit a HEAT ticket if you forget your password. BlackBerry will lock after 2 minutes of inactivity by default. To enable a password: Select Options from the Home screen Select Security Options Select General Settings Select Password. Click Disabled and select Enabled. You may want to change Allow outgoing call while locked to Yes. Click the Escape key and click Save. Type in your password and Enter. Verify the password and Enter again. 4

Receiving & Ending a Call When receiving a phone call, you will receive visual and other notifications (vibrate or tone) depending on how your notification profiles have been configured You can use trackball to select Answer Answer and Hold (if on another call) Ignore To end a call Press the red phone key or Click trackball and select End Call from the menu Placing a Call Using One Time Dial Press the green phone key Enter phone number Press Enter, or click trackball and select Call To end the call, press and hold the red phone key 7

Placing a Call (continued) From Address Book Click Address Book icon. Scroll to desired name and click trackball. Scroll to Call and click trackball. If there is more than 1 number for that contact, scroll to the number you wish to call and click the trackball. Calling from address book Options While on a Call You can change the volume while on a call by tapping the volume keys on the side. Click the Menu key Other options while on a call: End Call Mute Activate Speakerphone View Address Book View Calendar New Call Home Screen Press the End key to disconnect the call 8

Using Voice Mail To set up Voice Mail From the BlackBerry, press and hold the 1 key Sprint (Your initial password is the last 7 digits of your phone number.) AT&T press 1. Follow steps to create new password, record your name and greeting. Retrieving Voice Mail If you have a new Voice Mail message, the Voice Mail icon will appear in handheld status section of Home screen. From the BlackBerry Home screen, press and hold 1. You will be prompted to enter your password. Follow prompts to listen to your messages. Phone Application Options While in the Phone application, press the Menu key and select Options Call Logging Select the types calls you want to show on the Messages screen 9

Lookups are automatically saved in your Address Book Sending Email messages Select the Messages application Press the Menu key and select Compose Email For a recipient in Dadeschools: Begin typing last name of recipient BlackBerry will show names from your Contacts that match Or allow you to Lookup that name on Dadeschools global address list Click the trackball on the name you want For a recipient with an outside address: Simply type the email address of the person 11

Type your message Click trackball and select Send. Address Book Features Add new contacts Options must be changed to alphabetize by Last Name. Create local (on handheld only) Group Addresses View/Edit/Delete existing contact information Make phone calls: Select contact, click trackball, select call (Contact name) Send emails: Select contact, click trackball, select email (Contact name) Change Address Book options (Sort by Last Name) Remote address lookup Storing Numbers in the Address Book Adding Addresses Manually From Home screen, select Address Book icon. Press the Menu key and select New Address. Type your contact s information. Press Enter key at the end of each field or use the trackball. Click trackball and click Save. 13

Using Embedded links Whenever certain types of content are included in a message (body or subject line), they are automatically converted into links: Email addresses Phone numbers Direct Connect numbers (Nextel) URLs Using Your Calendar From the Home screen click the Calendar icon. You will see today s scheduled activities. To add an appointment: Scroll to appropriate time. Click trackball. Add all required information. Click trackball and click Save. Roll the trackball left/right to look at previous/next day; roll up/down to look at previous/next hours 14

Using Your Calendar (continued) Click Menu key while in Calendar to view your choices Scrolling through menu will allow you to: View a specific date View a week at a time View monthly calendars View an agenda that lists all calendar entries Change your Calendar options Initial view, Start of Day, End of Day, Keep Appointments Using Bluetooth Turn on Bluetooth On the Home screen, select Manage Connections Click a checkmark in the Bluetooth option Setup a Bluetooth device On the Home screen, select Manage Connections Select Set Up Bluetooth Step through the wizard 15

Using the BlackBerry Browser From the Home screen click the Browser icon. You will be on the Bookmarks/History page Your can go to any site you choose by typing the URL in the address bar Select another page by pressing the Menu key and selecting Go To when in the browser. Add a Bookmark to any page by pressing the Menu key and selecting Add Bookmark Using GPS Your device is equipped with GPS that can be used with mapping applications Mapping applications are (from BlackBerry) Maps (already installed on BlackBerry) Google (www.google.com, More, Maps) Live Search beta (maps.live.com) 16
