OPPORTUNITIES WHY INDONESIA? Indonesia and the Netherlands maintained intensive ties over the years which profoundly facilitates the import and export between both countries. With an annual economic growth rate of 5.9% on average in conjunction with the current FDI and export rates, Indonesia has become the largest economy of South-East Asia. The abundance and diversity of natural resources, a population of 250 million and a rapidly expanding middle class ensures that Indonesia is an interesting market for international trade and business. Its domestic political stability, low labor costs and macro-economic stability creates an advantageous investment environment which provides endless opportunities for Dutch companies. INTERESTING SECTORS IN INDONESIA MARITIME INDUSTRY I strive to turn Indonesia into a maritime axis of the world while boosting the connectivity of the islands across the archipelago, especially on maritime infrastructure development, such as construction of deep seaports. Joko Widodo, President of Indonesia. This quote predicts a prosperous future for the Indonesian maritime industry. The concrete goals set by President Widodo provide enormous opportunities to the highly qualified and specialized Dutch companies which are active in the maritime industry. INTERESTING SECTORS ENERGY INDUSTRY The Indonesian energy industry presents a tremendous growth. As a result of the substantial macroeconomic growth, the electricity demand will increase with 9% yearly until 2019. Nonetheless, the supply of electricity is lagging behind. Therefore the government decided to open up the energy market for independent power companies in 2009. This provides a wide range of investment opportunities for Dutch companies in this sector. AGRICULTURE Because of its abundant fertile soils, Indonesia is a global key producer of many agricultural products and, although the numbers are decreasing, the majority of the Indonesian households still gets its income from this sector. This sector provides a lot of opportunities for specialized Dutch companies in providing better techniques and machines to increase the sector s productivity. Furthermore it offers opportunities for foreign investors. The students conducting the research have always been very focused and several found their first job in our company afterwards. C.D Schut - Commercial Manager AkzoNobel Fucntional Chemicals Salt Specialties On behalf of EA Broekema, I can warmly recommend the International Business Research (IBR) initiative.
