Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 1 Internet Access to a DVR365 These instructions will show you how to connect your DVR365 to the internet via an ADSL broadband modem/router. The remote viewing PC must be running Windows and can connect using either Internet Explorer or the client software provided: Disk Record System of Multi- Channels. This remote PC should also have a broadband connection. You should request a static IP address from your internet service provider. Some providers charge for this service, others do not. Overview In order to achive a successful remote connection you should Obtain a static IP address for the broadband connection at the DVR site Use an ADSL modem router equipped with an ethernet network port Determine the IP address & subnet mask used by the router (ie: it s factory defaults) Configure the network settings within the DVR (checking the other network settings at the same time) Configure the network settings on the PC Check PC to DVR connectivity locally Configure the router - q with username, password & connection details in order to establish an internet connection q to direct incoming connections to the DVR Determine the IP Address & Subnet Mask used by the Router Read the manual supplied with the router to determine the factory default IP address assigned internally to the router. Note: this internal address is the one that the PC and DVR connect to. It is not to be confused with the external static address on the internet side connection as supplied by the internet provider. Most will use one of the following private addresses and corresponding subnet mask - IP address = 10.x.x.1 subnet mask = 255.0.0.0 IP address = 172.16.x.1 subnet mask = 255.255.0.0 IP address = 192.168.x.1 subnet mask = 255.255.255.0 Hint: write down or label the router with it s address for future reference These instructions assume a router address of 192.168.1.1 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 2 Configure the Network Settings on the DVR365 Drop down the DVR s front panel and press Enter When prompted for the password, press the 8 button, six times Use the keys to navigate the blue highlight to System Setting and press Enter Use the keys to navigate the blue highlight to Network and press Enter Use the keys to navigate round the entries (the selected entry flashes) and use keys to change the value of the flashing entry according to the following table IP 192.168.001.111 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.001.001 Web Port 00080 TCP Port 37777 Monitor Playback TCP TCP Use the keys to navigate to Save and press Enter Press Esc twice to exit the menus Note: be aware of the change you are making here, the factory default IP address set within the DVR365 is 192.168.0.111, we are using 192.168.1.111. Note: the three digits 192.168.1 at the front of this IP address must be identical to the router s same three digits to ensure a connection is possible.

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 3 Configure the Network Settings on the DVR365 Most routers have the ability to issue IP addresses automatically using DHCP and Windows PCs can receive one automatically using this mechanism, however these instructions guide you through a how configure the PC manually throughout. The PC should be configured manually with the following IP 192.168.1.10 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Note: Again, the three digits 192.168.1 at the front of this IP address are identical to the router s. Setting the IP Address on a PC runing Windows XP. Use the mouse to click on Start, Control Panel, Network Connections Note: This screen shows an entry for each network connection available to the computer you are using. If you are using a laptop which has a wireless network card or conventional modem installed you will see more than just the single entry shown above. It is very easy to configure the wrong network card so ensure you can positively identify the entry for the network card that is going to physically connect to the DVR365. Position the mouse over the name Local Area Connection in the first column, right click the mouse and select Properties from the popup menu.

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 4 The following window opens Click on the line Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Then click on Properties Check the entry Use the following IP address and complete the entries as shown on the right. Then click on Ok to save your changes then close the remaining Windows Windows XP & 2000 automatically updates IP address changes as soon as you save your changes but PCs running Windows 95, 98 and ME need a reboot.

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 5 Check Connectivity with Ping A Diagnostic Tool At this point you should connect both the PC and the DVR365 to the router using conventional patch cables. Patch cables supplied by SystemQ are usually coloured blue. Ping is diagnostic tool used to confirm TCP/IP connectivity between your PC and another device. Click on Start then Run, then enter cmd and click on Ok When a black screen appears, type PING 192.168.1.111 and press Enter The following screen shot shows a ping request succeeding, it has received 4 replies. Check Connectivity using the Client Software You must install the viewer software from CD that came with the DVR, do it now if you have not done so. Lauch the client software, called Disk Record System of Multi-Channels then click on Login

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 6 When the Window shown here appears, ensure that Network Login is selected, and click on Ok. This window lists the available DVRs to which you can connect. If it is blank, click on Add so that you can enter the connection details for your DVR Enter the details appropriate to your DVR as shown here and click on Ok Now that your DVR is listed in the Recorder window, highlight it and click on Login When prompted for User Confirmation Name = admin Password = admin

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 7 Client software connected to the DVR opens initially with a blue screen. Click on one of the monitor numbers to select a camera. Select Logout when finished.

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 8 Router Configuration - Overview Most routers have a built in web-based configuration menu accessed via a web browser. The following instructions apply to the SystemQ 4 x port ADSL modem router but the principle can easily be applied to other products. The following settings need to be made on the router Define a connection profile for the user and internet service provider (ISP) Define the DVR as a LAN client Enable the DMZ option selecting the LAN client defined in the previous step q Optionlly, define and apply custom port forwarding instead of using DMZ Logging onto the Router Note: the username & password are case sensitive Lauch Internet Explorer Type router s address into the address bar as http://192.168.1.1 Enter username Admin Enter password Admin Click on Log In

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 9 Router Configuration Defining a New Connection You must define at least one connection on this router, connection details are provider and user specific so find out what these are before starting. Typically, you will need Description Typically Setting Comment Username Password user dependent user dependent Protocol or Connection type PPPoA Standard setting for BT Virtual Circuit Identifier VCI 38 Standard setting for BT Virtual Path Identifier VPI 0 Standard setting for BT Encapsulation VC Standard setting for BT Authentication Auto Standard setting for BT = Chap Maximum Transmission Unit MTU 1500 Click on Setup, then New Connection You should see the following screen (with example settings)

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 10 Type in a descriptive name for this internet connection, eg Virgin Select PPPoA from the Type drop down list Select Encapsulation = VC Type in the username & password Set Keep Alive = 0 Click in the On Demand field to select this option Set the Idle Timeout = 0 Click in the On Demand field to clear this option Set Authentication = Auto Set MTU = 1500 Set VCI = 38 Click on Apply Router Configuration Defining a LAN Client The next step in Router configuration is the definition of the network IP addresses that can be used by the router. Any device with an IP address is known as a client. Click on Advanced Click on LAN Clients Set Enter IP address to 192.168.1.111 Click on Apply

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 11 Router Configuration Enabling DMZ (Demilitarised Zone) Entering the DVR s IP address into the DMZ setting specifies that the router will forward incoming traffic from the internet to that device, thus providing internet access to the DVR. Configure DMZ as follows Click on Advanced, Port Forwarding, then click on DMZ Check the box Enable DMZ and select the previously defined LAN client 192.168.1.111 from the drop down list. Click on Apply Router Configuration Saving Configuration Changes Permanent configuration changes must be saved to prevent loss due to power failure. To save these changes Click on Tools Click on System Commands Click on Save All

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 12 Router Configuration Access from the Internet To test the Internet connection to the DVR a remote PC should load Internet Explorer or the DVR client software and should target the user s static IP address as given by the internet service provider, and NOT the DVR s manually configured IP address. The router then handles the routing of the incoming request to the DVR, which is the LAN client specificed as being the DMZ. For example if a static address were 80.229.135.5 then remote users with internet Explorer should simply type http://80.229.132.5 Remote users with the DVR client software should create a new entry as described earlier in this text. This concludes router configuration using a DMZ configuration. The instructions below for Specific Port Forwarding are optional but are included for the more advanced user. Router Configuration Specific Port Forwarding Opening a specific port or port forwarding is the preferred method for allowing remote access to a device on a private network from a public network such as the internet. It is more secure than opening every single port using the DMZ method but cannot be used while DMZ is active. To use Port Forwarding you must - Disable DMZ (if it is active) Define two new rules or services Apply the new rules to an internal IP address The DVR365 uses two TCP/IP ports so you need a rule for each Software Default Port New Rule Name Internet Explorer 80 DVR00080 Client Software 37777 DVR37777 Port 80 for HTTP access via Internet Explorer Port 37777 for access via the client software Port Forwarding - Define New Rules Click on Advanced, then Port Forwarding Select the LAN IP address 192.168.1.111 from the drop down box Then check User category so that we can define a new entry

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 13 Click on New then set Rule Name = DVR37777 Protocol = TCP Port Start = 37777 Port End = 37777 Port Map = 37777 Click on Apply

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 14 Repeat the procedure for the second port, 80 - Click on Port Forwarding Select the LAN IP address 192.168.1.111 from the drop down box Then check User category Click New and enter Rule Name = DVR00080 Protocol = TCP Port Start = 80 Port End = 80 Port Map = 80 Click on Apply After defining the new rule, we activate it Click on Port Forwarding Select the LAN IP address 192.168.1.111 from the drop down box Then check User category Highlight the new rule DVR37777 in the User defined list of available rules Click on Add Repeat this for the second rule Click on Port Forwarding Select the LAN IP address 192.168.1.111 from the drop down box Then check User category

Configuration Details : Internet Access to DVR365 Page : 15 Highlight the new rule DVR00080 in the User defined list of available rules Click on Add Router Configuration Saving Configuration Changes Permanent configuration changes must be saved to prevent loss due to power failure. To save changes Click on Tools Click on System Commands Click on Save All --- End of Document ---
