HP is getting some good buzz from Gartner & OVUM What are the analysts saying about HP s Adaptive Backup & Recovery Vision? If you guys can pull this off you will change the game for backup and recovery * Ovum considers that HP by invoking its strength in analytics is able to ensure that HP Data Protector is able to deliver complete end-to-end visibility from the data source to the target device *** HP has recently updated its heterogeneous array support Gartner believes that Data Protector is now the second-broadest snapshot manager in the market HP's SAP support (depth and breadth) remains perhaps the best in the industry. ** HP was the joint leader in the Enterprise backup and recovery ODM 2014/15 Ovum considers that HP s significant differentiator is that it was the only vendor to score 10 out of 10 in performance and scalability *** 8 Copyright 2014 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. SmartCache for Vmware GR Rapid Recovery for VMware virtual machine single item recovery saving time, storage resources and improving VM restore operations: SmartCache is a new feature of DP 9 New store type is optimized to enable rapid recovery for VM restores Ability to restore single items within a virtual machine, in place, without having to restore the entire VM disk file 22

How does the non-staged (cached) magic work? You set a retention period of the backup time on the SmartCacheServer for quick recovery of single file(s). Then you set a backup job to perform an object copy from the SmartCacheserver to longer term backup storage, where you can take advantage of deduplication. Please note that SmartCachedoesperform deduplication. SmartCacheTargets can exist on disk (direct, SAN, iscsi) or network shares (CIFS/NFS).

Single Item Recovery SharePoint Exchange VMware 24

VMware GRE Direct from 3PAR Snapshot Accelerated Single Item Recovery for VMware VM VM VM VMware t Cached singlefile restore Description Cached single item recovery directly from 3PAR snapshot Browse available VM folders through vcenter plug-in Utilize multiple snapshots on 3PAR for fast recovery Usage Fast, single item recovery from VM Streamlined UI workflow Integrated GRE for Cached (3PAR snapshot & Smart Cache) as well as non-cached (Tape, File Library, etc.) 25 t 0 t - 1 t - 2 Benefits Accelerated single file recovery from snapshot Easy management through vcenter user interface

Snapshot integration Zero Downtime Backup Snapshot Based Backups No Performance Degradation Application Consistency Transactional application awareness (Log Handling) Storage efficient (HP StoreOnce integration) StoreOnce Integrated Application Support SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server Operating System Support Windows, Linux and HP-UX Operating System Support Extensive HP (3Par, StoreVirtual) and 3rd Party array support 26

Recover applications faster with HP Data Protector Fully GUI driven automated, recovery of Exchange, precise Oracle, point-in-time SQL Server & SAP application to specified point recovery in time Automatically restart applications on physical or virtual servers Recovery available from any supported backup media but best suited with Instant Recovery Down to the second 28

Policy based application protection One time backup policy configuration for Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server & Oracle Automatically detects new databases added to the group Dynamic backup adjustment when the group changes Ensures protection during passive / active database failover 29

Not ALL DEDUPLICATION Equal- Enables Sparse Indexing andintelligent Reads HP Labs created algorithms within StoreOncecalled Sparse Indexing and Contained Matching to deliver scale and performance for deduplicationsolutions. The fewer times the deduplicationappliance has to read the actual data to determine if another chunk is a match, the more efficient the system is. In other words, the same CPU and memory can drive higher scalability and performance, delivering better value for the organization. Instead of reading an entire data chunk to determine if a new chunk is a match; these algorithms provide a technique to preview only pieces of the data chunk. It samples existing chunks, stored in memory in the Sparse Index table, looking for matches. Searching for the data in memory vs. on the disk drives themselves improves throughput performance and reduces processing power.

ABR Protection Engine: Federated Deduplication Application Source VM APP Application Source Benefits Dedup on source Eliminate need for ROBO-hosted hardware Reduces network bandwidth Backup Server Backup Server Benefits Offload App Server from dedup processing Higher total target appliance throughput Efficient utilization of backup infrastructure Target System Target System Benefits Software only implementation = generic storage Purpose built appliance optimized for backup data Simplest implementation No Operational Changes

Federated Catalyst for HP StoreOnce Backup Eliminate the line between backup data and rigid backup targets for agility & simplicity Federated Backup Stores 1 Data Store :: N+ Targets Applications File Servers Databases Virtualization StoreOnce Federated Backup Store A single shared pool of capacity for data protection 32

What is Catalyst?

Catalyst Technology Overview Definition 1: a substance that enables a chemical reaction to proceed at a usually faster rate or under different conditions than otherwise possible 34

Why use Catalyst? Enables backup apps to be fully aware of StoreOnce capabilities Significantly increases performance Gives the backup app full control Centralizes index database Dictates when and where backup copies are made Deduplication efficiency reporting Adheres to lifecycle policies No unnecessary geometry limitations Enables WAN backups 35

StoreOnce Federated Catalyst and CoFC Data Protector 9 support for new StoreOnce v3.12 features Catalyst over Fibre Channel Benefit from Catalyst performance in existing Fibre Channel environments Single node device support Added support for HP-UX 11.31 Supported with Federated Catalyst Federated Catalyst Consolidate dedupe stores and simplify management with automatic load-balancing across nodes Up to 8 nodes Expansion & contraction of federated stores Supported with Catalyst over Fibre Channel Fully Qualified Domain Name support Additional Enhancements Hard quota support for NAS & VTL IPV6 support Application Servers Virtualized Servers File Servers Database Servers <8 nodes <8 nodes <8 nodes <8 nodes 36
