Computer Engineering Technician The Computer Engineering Technician program is unique in Canada as it combines the study of computer and operating systems with the emerging field of custom electronics. Code: CTN Credential: Ontario College Diploma Start Date: September, January Highlights Home owners and corporations are demanding full integration when it comes to highend entertainment, multi-room audio and video environmental control and automation of such things as doors, cabinets and lighting. With your custom electronic skills you will work with architects and builders to design, install and network these systems skills that are in demand in the job market. You will also learn about solving computer problems that can cause both major costs and setbacks for businesses, whether due to a major hardware failure or a minor software incompatibility. Courses in computer science and custom electronics are complemented by training in oral and written communications, customer relations, and team work. There s plenty of hands-on learning, putting the theory you learn in the classroom into practice. Upon graduation, you ll have the broadbased, transferable skills that are in demand with a firm foundation for a career designing automation systems for homes and corporations and configuring hardware and software for computer systems. You ll apply this knowledge to the analysis and design of complex computer systems and networks. You ll have open access beyond classroom time to our lab facilities - time to explore and learn, hands-on. Your ability to work effectively as a member of a technical team will also be further developed through course studies and a full-semester team-based project. Biotechnology Technologist Forensics Code: BTF Credential: Start Date: September, January ontario College Advanced Diploma Highlights With a career in forensic biotechnology, you have diverse employment opportunities, from working in medical or health-related fields, to tracking down criminals or identifying victims of crime. Laboratory related occupations are among the fastest growing occupations in the economy. With specialization in Forensics/DNA, this program is unique and graduates are in demand in this emerging field. This advanced diploma program would traditionally take six semesters to complete. However, the program has been designed in an accelerated, compressed format, to provide six semesters of course work over five semesters. In their final, fifth semester, students can complete their full-time internship from April to August - giving graduates the advantage of getting out into the workforce faster. (Should they so choose, students may defer the summer internship until the fall.) Courses in the program integrate theory and practice opportunities in labs and practice settings. Graduates will be critical thinkers with problem-solving abilities, strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills and a solid foundation in forensic/dna/medical applications. Electrical Engineering Technician Our Electrical Engineering Technician program will equip you with electrical and electronic theory and practice the tools you need to take on entry level positions or an apprenticeship in the electrical industry. Code: EE Credential: Ontario College Diploma Start Dates: September Highlights The four-semester Electrical Engineering Technician program will provide you with a solid foundation. You will learn about programmable logic controls (PLCs), electrical and electronic circuits and systems, instrumentation, cabling, network engineering, and electrical machines and controls. Extensive practice labs will provide you with ample opportunity to develop skills required to assume entry level positions or an apprenticeship. A technical skills shortage is looming both regionally and nationally in Canada. This program has been designed to help fill these technical positions as the manufacturing sector becomes more specialized, the construction industry flourishes, and retirement rates increase. You will need these abilities and skills to succeed: an interest in skilled trades and technology enjoyment of problem-solving and troubleshooting manual dexterity a degree of mathematical savvy in order to conduct the calculations necessary (assistance for those not yet proficient with Math has been factored into the program ).
