IES SYSTEMS ENGINEERING ING AND MANAGEMENT (CSEP CSEP) CO-ORGANIZER: TDSI-NUS Course Overview IES Systems Engineering and Management Course is jointly organised by the IES and TDSI-NUS to promote Systems Engineering to the Engineering Community. Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary approach that harness the knowledge from many disciplines to solve complex issues. It focuses on the performance, reliability and sustainability of systems throughout their life cycles. This course aims to provide the principles, methods and tools of systems engineering. It consists of seven modules. Module 1 presents an overview of the systems engineering fundamentals and the concept of system life cycle. Modules 2 to 5 give a detailed guide to the various management processes within a system life cycle and its related techniques. Module 6 covers a range of decision-making methods that can be applied through the system life cycle. Case studies and lessons learnt will be shared and discussed in Module 7. Programme 1. Introduction to Systems Engineering Systems Engineering Fundamentals Overview of Life Cycle Management (LCM) & LCM Sub Processes Systems Thinking 2. Problem Framing Requirement Analysis and Engineering 3. Lessons Learnt & Cases Lessons Learnt/Knowledge Management Case Studies Who Should Attend This course is highly recommended for systems engineering practitioners, project managers and professionals who aspire to lead or are leading large-scale and complex projects. It is a pre-requisite to those who wish to apply for registration as a Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP). About Our Lead Instructors Lead Instructor Dr. Aaron Chia Eng Seng Dr Aaron Chia is an Associate Professor in the Industrial Systems Engineering Department of National University of Singapore (NUS). He teaches systems engineering at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as Large Scale Systems Engineering and Project Management. He was previously with the Defence Science and Technology Agency College as a resident lecturer assessing learning needs, designing curriculum, teaching and conducting course reviews. Aaron holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering, a MBA in Management of Technology, a degree in Psychology and Graduate Diplomas in Change Management and Instructional Design. Lead Instructor Dr Joseph Kasser, DSc, CEng, CM, CMALT, MIET Joseph Kasser has a unique international mixture of recognised expertise in systems engineering and education. He has been a practicing systems engineer for nearly 40 years and an academic for about 10 years. He is an INCOSE Fellow, the author of A Framework for Understanding Systems Engineering and "Applying Total Quality Management to Systems Engineering" and many INCOSE symposia papers. He is a recipient of NASA s Manned Space Flight Awareness Award (Silver Snoopy) for quality and technical excellence for performing and directing systems engineering and other awards. He holds a Doctor of Science in Engineering Management from The George Washington University; is a Certified Manager and holds a Certified Membership of the Association for Learning Technology. He has worked in Australia, the US, UK, and Israel as an engineer, manager and systems engineer on such diverse projects as the Apollo
Lunar Surface Experiment Package deployed on the moon by the Apollo 17 astronauts, the control and electronics system of the world s first commercial solar fuelled electrical power generating system (SEGS-1) in Southern California, spacecraft data processing systems, spacecraft command and control systems, and various software projects. He conceived and developed Tiger Pro which is still the only requirements management tool that can tell you if the requirement is badly written (but only from a testing perspective). He gave up his positions as a Deputy Director and DSTO Associate Research Professor at the Systems Engineering and Evaluation Centre at the University of South Australia in early 2007 to move to the UK to develop the world s first immersion course in systems engineering as a Leverhulme Visiting Professor at Cranfield University. He is currently a principal at The Right Requirement Ltd. in the UK and a Visiting Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore. He served as the initial president of INCOSE Australia and Region VI Representative to the INCOSE Member Board. He also participated in the review of the straw man version of the software engineering body of knowledge, and the development of the initial set of questions for the American Society of Quality s pilot Software Quality Manager Examination. His teaching style focuses on developing conditional knowledge which helps students conceive and solve problems under conditions of vagueness and uncertainty. SPUR funding is subjected to terms and conditions. Application for this SPUR scheme and absentee payroll claims is via the Skills Connect (https://www.skillsconnect.gov.sg/). Participants who did not apply this course through Skills Connect prior to registration with us will not be eligible for the Nett Course Fee payment. Full course fee will be applicable.
