Instructor: Efe Baysal (ebaysal@ku.edu.tr) SOS 314 Ext: 1579 Office hrs: Mon & Wed 13:00-14:00 History 302 History of the Turkish Revolution Fall 2010 History 302 course covers the general outlines of the evolution of reforms in the history of Turkish Republic. This subject will treat the evolution of the reforms from the beginning of the Kemalist period to the more contemporary periods. It will be devoted to the passage to political democracy in the wake of the Second World War, problems of pluralism and democracy, evolution of the Turkish economy and Turkish foreign policy in the 20 th century. Course Requirements: Grading will be as follows: NOTES: Exams -- mid-term exam: 35% -- final exam: 35% In-Class Evaluation -- Participation (not equal to attendance): 6 points -- Pop quizzes: 12 points -- Question and Answer: 6 points -- In-Class Activities: 6 points 1 Grading based on Question and Answer includes the instructors asking questions and students answering them. The students responsible for Question and Answer are required to come to both sessions of the week having read the materials assigned for that week. Number of questions may vary according to the topic. 2- Grading based on In-Class Activities includes the instructors preparing extra-syllabus materials, including primary resources, documents, short reading, pictures, films etc. The students are required to participate at the discussions around or comment on these materials, in oral and/or written forms. 1
