The Adelaide Law School offers a seamless route from your high school or undergraduate study to the practice of law in Canada. Studying law in Australia is similar to Canada because of our shared Common Law heritage. The Australian Bachelor of Laws (LLB) is equivalent to the Canadian JD. In Australia, however, you can study a Bachelor of Laws directly after high school or after undergraduate university studies. You don t need an undergraduate degree to get into Law School, although if you already have an undergraduate degree the duration of your law degree will be reduced to three years full time as opposed to four years for non graduates. The Adelaide Law School Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Program Duration: 4 years (undergraduate entry); 3 years (graduate entry). The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) is the Australian equivalent of the Canadian JD The Adelaide Law School Bachelor of Laws is a top tier program designed to prepare you for your future legal career in Canada. There are few disciplines that are more challenging or satisfying than law. Your studies at the Adelaide Law School will be stimulating and ultimately rewarding. The Adelaide Bachelor of Laws provides graduates with a rigorous knowledge of the areas of substantive law necessary to undertake legal practice within a broad liberal education. Students will graduate with a sound understanding of legal concepts, processes and methods. The program consists of a number of law courses which provides students with a thorough grounding in common law principles and legal methodology. In addition, students can choose to study a choice of elective courses. Assessment is through a combination of class participation, written assignments, exams, research essays, oral presentations, and the traditional moot court competitions. During your study you will be provided with a number of opportunities to undertake a work placement either through one of our internship programs or by undertaking Clinical Legal Education. Federation of Law Societies of Canada National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) How do I gain admission to practice law in Canada? Students must obtain accreditation of their degree from the NCA upon returning to Canada. Typically, this will require writing four exams to cover Canadian content not included in the Adelaide LLB. This may be done on return to Canada or in the Adelaide Law School Preparatory course. Preparation Course The Adelaide Law School offers a preparation course on the materials required to write and pass the four NCA exams: > > Principles of Canadian Administrative Law > > Canadian Constitutional Law > > Canadian Criminal Law and Procedure > > Foundations of Canadian Law NCA Exams The Adelaide Law School is an approved NCA Exam Centre. Students who must complete any NCA exams can write them at the Adelaide Law School according to the schedule set each year by the NCA.

Entry requirements The LSAT is not required. There is no need to sit the LSAT for entry to the Adelaide Bachelor of Laws. You will need to have a GPA of at least 70-75% (between 3.0-3.3 GPA). The University will consider the LSAT, but it is not required for admission. Personal statements, reference letters and a resume/ CV will also be considered if submitted. Cost The Adelaide Law School s Bachelor of Laws annual tuition fees are competitive with the leading Canadian and Australian Law Schools. Scholarships Law Achievers Scholarships are available for Canadian students who are seeking entry into the Bachelor of Laws (LLB). The scholarship provides AUD$10,00 payment for living allowances (subject to conditions). adelaide.edu.au/professions/ scholarships/canada Canadian Federal & Provincial Financial Support Canadian students are eligible to apply for Canadian federal and provincial student loans when studying at the Adelaide Law School. In addition, students are eligible to work on or off campus while in Australia; up to 40 hours bi-weekly during studies and full time during vacation periods. Situated next to Adelaide s central business and shopping districts. Renowned for its history, beauty, convenience and lively atmosphere. There are plenty of outdoor activities in which you can get involved, as well as spending time at the local beach suburbs. Getting out of the city you can explore regional South Australia and find great countryside including world renowned wine regions, such as the Clare Valley, the Barossa Valley, and McLaren Vale, rugged coastlines and the Australian Outback. The Weather South Australia has a Mediterranean climate of warm to hot, dry summers and mild to cool, wet winters rain mainly falling between May to August.
