ABOUT TESTING AND JOB CLASSES UIC has over 650 active titles Civil Service staff, academic professional employees and external applicants are open to apply State of Illinois Residency Required to be admitted to an exam, applicant must be a resident of the State of Illinois
EXAM SCORES A score of 70 is considered a passing score Highest score achievable without veteran points is 100 Veterans are eligible for additional points (3,5 or 10) Exam can be taken initially 4 times in calendar year Applicant must wait 30 days after exam has been taken before re-taking exam Test results are mailed within 2 weeks of exam being taken and includes register rank

ORDER OF CIVIL SERVICE REGISTER ENTRIES REEMPLOYMENT (laid off employees) (order of seniority) PROMOTIONAL (For titles that belong to a promotional line) RESTORAL ORIGINAL ENTRY REASSIGNMENT (Internal Transfer requests)
REEMPLOYMENT REGISTER ENTRIES Contains: Names of status employees who have been bumped/laid off Status employees that opted not to exercise bumping rights and elected voluntary layoff Names are listed by class and order of seniority
PROMOTIONAL REGISTER ENTRIES Contains the name of status employees who qualify, take and pass exams for positions that are within their promotional line Scores are first ranked according to score achieved, 100 to 70 promotional then 100 to 70 Original Entry
RESTORAL REGISTER ENTRIES Contains the names of former or current status employees that ask to be restored to register Are in good standing or request restoral within 12 months of leaving the University Can also include employees displaced by position elimination during their probationary period
ORIGINAL REGISTER ENTRIES Contains the names of applicants and current employees who have met the minimum qualifications, tested and passed the exam for specific classifications
REASSIGNMENT REGISTER Contains the names of status or probationary employees who have requested reassignment to another department within their place of employment, in the same job title Employees hired from this register do not serve a new probationary period in the new position provided they have already passed their probationary period

FILLING A VACANT POSITION Employing Department Submits a Job Requisition via DART HR Compensation reviews and approves, forwards the Requisition to Employment Employment contacts employing department to discuss posting, freezing the register and other requirements Employment Officer receives responses from interested candidates, and schedules interview with supervisor
INTERVIEWING All candidates who respond with interest must be interviewed by the hiring department Candidates may provide a resume or HR can provide a copy of the online application prior to the interview Employing department interviews all interested candidates Employing department selects candidate for hire HR makes official job offer and establishes an effective hire date
HR EMPLOYMENT OFFICER RESPONSIBILITIES When making the job offer to the selected candidate, the Employment Officer will discuss the following: Salary Effective (Start) Date Summary of Benefits Health Evaluation Other required clearances New Employee Orientation Completion of Hire Papers
HR EMPLOYMENT OFFICER RESPONSIBILITIES Creates and submits an HR Front End hire transaction and submits to HR Records for approval Provides hiring supervisor with Probationary Period evaluation
NEW EMPLOYEE RESPONSIBILITY Schedule and participate in Campus Orientation Includes Campus Overview Benefits Parking Safety Obtain a UIC campus ID Complete NESSIE New Hire Task List
