Kings College is a high achieving learning environment where academic challenge and care, guidance and support are outstanding (Ofsted 2011) We are very proud of our school and its achievements and feel there are many good reasons why you should consider Kings for your child. Here are just 10 1 CLEAR AND VISIONARY LEADERSHIP 2 SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS Kings College Guildford is a high achieving co-educational secondary school and sixth form providing a values-led education for 11 to 18 year olds. We have an uncompromising commitment to leadership, teaching and learning and to our values. Kings College works in close partnership with George Abbot School and both schools benefit from a clear sense of shared goals knowledge and experience. In so doing we are creating a school of first choice for the Guildford community developing exciting opportunities for teachers and students in both schools. Our aim is to achieve excellence in everything we do; to inspire students to love learning and to see its value in their lives. Teaching and learning are key priorities and are the cornerstones of our approach. We aim to continually improve the quality of teaching to ensure that each individual achieves more than they first thought possible. Our dedicated and highly qualified teachers meet the needs of the students by challenging and inspiring them with their innovative approaches to the curriculum, teaching and learning. Every teacher s individual attributes, knowledge, understanding and skills are improved by our Continuous Professional Development Programme. The commitment of our teachers ensures that students can attain their maximum potential and acquire the knowledge and qualifications that will provide the foundations for success in their adult lives and equip them to face the challenges that a rapidly changing world will present.

3 EXCELLENT DISCIPLINE AND SAFEGUARDING 4 STIMULATING AND SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT Nothing below a high standard of behaviour is acceptable. Students are expected to exercise self-discipline by behaving sensibly and showing courtesy to others within a framework of rules and procedures. Students work to the best of their ability and have a strong work ethic. Their effort, enthusiasm, maturity and behaviour are exemplary and this results in excellent academic progress. Ofsted considered Kings to have an outstanding provision for safeguarding in the 2011 inspection. Kings is a cohesive community where students feel a strong sense of belonging. They feel extremely safe at College and are overwhelmingly positive about the quality of support and guidance they receive. We know our community well and develop links to enhance students understanding of the wider world. Our pastoral programme fosters a culture of high aspiration, learning, attainment and personal development. The Pastoral Team lead our staff in ensuring that students are nurtured and supported on their journey to realising their own personal and academic potential.

5 PERSONALISED LEARNING 6 FORGING STRONG LINKS WITH BUSINESS We are committed to challenging, targeted and personalised learning for all and expect every student to make progress within every lesson. From the moment they arrive at Kings, every student is treated as an individual with their own dreams and aspirations within a calm and focused learning environment. We give each student, regardless of ability, the opportunity to fulfil his or her potential, personally, socially and academically. This encourages them to improve and develop self-confidence and ambition. We support learners on their own learning pathways via a personalised learning programme that ensures they are given every support towards planning their career and ultimately becoming well rounded citizens. We have developed strong links with local businesses through The Kings College Community Trust and together we are determined to make a difference to the lives of our students. Our Trustees include The Holiday Inn Guildford, Fidessa, Surrey Wild Life Trust, Grassroots - the Local Community Association and links with the world of banking through RBS. Our business partners provide the platform and opportunities for our students to gain experience, confidence and success in our rapidly changing society. Through their active involvement, the vital links necessary to begin university life or the world of work are developed.

7 EXCELLENT FACILITIES 8 ACTIVE LEARNING At Kings, students always have the equipment they need to succeed in the course they are studying and subject areas have facilities that are designed to inspire and motivate. Students benefit from a purpose built sports facility with all-weather pitches, two sports halls and a bespoke Dance studio. The light and airy teaching facilities are an important aspect in creating a learning environment where students want to learn and teachers want to teach. The cafeteria produces a wide range of excellent food to encourage students to make healthy choices. Attention to the safety and well-being of every individual is exemplified in the outstanding support provided for students with physical disabilities. The Curriculum is designed to be broad, balanced and challenging. It is taught with an emphasis on active learning, problem-solving, development of interactive group work and the use of Information and Communications Technology across all subjects. At Kings, we have a whole school focus on how students learn, how they know they are learning and how they develop the skills they need to improve. Students know their target grades and how to achieve them. Staff feedback ensures they are constantly challenged to aim high and achieve more. Experienced and specialised teachers have devised a bespoke and unique curriculum to meet the needs of Kings College Guildford students.

We provide our students with the widest possible educational experience. Our Enrichments Programme takes place at lunchtimes and after school and offers a wide range of activities for all year groups. Students are actively encouraged to participate in as many activities as they wish. 9 BROAD RANGE OF ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES A range of school visits and residential trips provide a broad mixture of new skills and experiences that bring fun and enjoyment. Students also benefit from a wide range of clubs and sporting activities. Annual trips to Europe include Barcelona, Paris, Madrid and also the Christmas Market in Lille. Other visits more local to home include the Clothes Show in Birmingham, many theatre trips, the Science Big Bang Show as well as Geography and Science field trips. There is an active Duke of Edinburgh Award Programme enabling a significant number of students to successfully take part in the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. 10 LIVING OUR VALUES Our aim is to achieve excellence in everything we do. We have: an uncompromising commitment to leadership - creating an environment where ambitions soar an uncompromising commitment to teaching and learning - achieving the best for every individual an uncompromising commitment to our values - maintaining a culture of trust, discipline and mutual respect Our established values-led ethos is important to the success of our school, the motivation of teachers and, ultimately, the attainment and well-being of our students. Students also have access to the excellent facilities at the Surrey Sports Park taking part in activities including spinning, squash and swimming.
