What information is available through ClinicalKey? The content in ClinicalKey comes from Elsevier s vast online medical portfolio. ClinicalKey also has more than 20 million MEDLINE abstracts, which are retrieved each day from the National Library of Medicine (NLM). 2

You can also access clinical trials. The number available is determined by the number available in the ClinicalTrials.gov database. In addition, ClinicalKey has more than 2,800 drug monographs that are provided by Gold Standard. Gold Standard makes an average of 30 to 50 content updates each day to their collection, with their peak months having more than 2,000 new updates. More than 700 market-leading medical and surgical books, including Gray s Anatomy, Goldman s Cecil Medicine, Braunwald s Heart Disease, Campbell s Operative Orthopaedics, and more More than 400 top journals in all medical and surgical specialties, including The Lancet An extensive library of medical illustrations and images, including The Netter Collection A wide variety of full-length surgical and procedural videos (over 2,500) How does ClinicalKey deliver relevant search results? ClinicalKey uses 2 unique Elsevier technologies to provide the most relevant answers to physicians queries: ClinicalKey ensures its users get the most relevant content by tagging each paragraph using our proprietary medical taxonomy, EMMeT (Elsevier Merged Medical Taxonomy), to create Elsevier Smart Content ClinicalKey is exclusively designed to align with physician workflows so it delivers answers that are more relevant than those provided by conventional clinical search engines What is Smart Content? Smart content ensures ClinicalKey adapts to meet physicians specific needs. It is created when searchable content is mapped to a taxonomy classifying the meaning of terms in the content. ClinicalKey creates clinical Smart Content by mapping searchable journal, book, image, and video content to Elsevier s proprietary taxonomy, EMMeT. EMMeT refines and combines other broad taxonomies to create the single most clinically useful taxonomy. It allows ClinicalKey to understand the meaning of searchable content so you can discover related content missed by keyword searches on conventional clinical search engines. 4

Also, because ClinicalKey uniquely understands physicians searches, it can autosuggest a broad range of additional terms to help them find the most relevant answers faster. EMMeT is constantly evolving to ensure ClinicalKey consistently identifies the most relevant answers. How does ClinicalKey align with physician workflows? ClinicalKey is exclusively designed to align with physician workflows, so it delivers answers that are more relevant than those provided by conventional clinical search engines and significantly reduces the time physicians spend searching. It structures information to align with doctors workflows, whether they are treating and diagnosing patients, staying current in their field, or sharing information with colleagues. Workflow alignment allows ClinicalKey to become an integral part of a physician s workflow, rather than a disruption. ClinicalKey provides access to the content they need most ClinicalKey allows them to filter search results by clinically meaningful subcategories (content type, specialty, disease, body region, and more) Specialty-specific tools enable physicians to quickly go from topic overview to in-depth specialty information to meet clinical challenges Workflow alignment extends to the design of ClinicalKey s user interface, making the most relevant tools immediately accessible Physicians can personalize ClinicalKey for greater workflow alignment, ensuring the most relevant results and cutting search time even further Saved searches save physicians time Personalized alerts keep physicians current when new information is available Can I save searches in ClinicalKey? Yes, you can save searches in order to make content more readily available. First you must log in using your username and password. Then, click the Saved Searches button that s located above the search results window. 5

What is KeyConnect? KeyConnect is the ultimate companion to ClinicalKey. Within the KeyConnect website, users have access to tips, tutorials, and news about the latest ClinicalKey developments. Registered users can also interact with one another and discuss how they get the most relevant medical content out of ClinicalKey. Visit KeyConnect at www.keyconnect.clinicalkey.com. How much does ClinicalKey cost? ClinicalKey is available to purchase via an institutional subscription. The price is dependent on the size and resource needs of your institution. Your librarian should contact their Elsevier sales representative or call 866-429-0335. Why should I use ClinicalKey vs conventional search engines like Google? Because ClinicalKey is powered by Elsevier Smart Content, it will return the most clinically relevant answers fast. With content mapped to EMMeT and relationships building into a semantic framework, ClinicalKey will highlight connections between medical concepts and point to related content that conventional clinical search engines or Google might miss. What s more, with content provided by Elsevier, the world s leading provider of healthcare information, you know you can trust the results. 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
