Assistant Can fulfil a variety of roles within Musgrave, working with more senior members of the team, real responsibility for accounting and reporting, best entry level position to the accounting team ideal for those coming off the graduate program This involves the preparation of our periodic, quarterly and annual accounts. We operate to very tight deadlines, operate to strict accounting policies and a very high threshold when it comes to balance sheet controls. We are audited by internal and external auditors quite frequently. Retail This is unique to the Musgrave business in that we provide business advice to our Retail Partners but we do not have any ownership in their businesses. We assist them with funding proposals to banks, we help them design their control environment, we help them understand their relative business performance (comparing their metrics with other similar retailers) and we help them manage their cost base. We do not produce accounts for them. Controller The FC is responsible for all financial reporting & for the financial planning cycle for the business. Through close & appropriate control of the balance sheet & an intimate knowledge of the key performance indicators (KPIs) of the business, the FC seeks to ensure that there are no surprises for the management team. Trends are spotted, business controls are strong, costs are kept within plan and the management team are always fully aware of business performance. This is a pivotal position within the business and requires an invasive style. Analyst We have a number of analysts in the business who report on specific elements of business performance. In Musgrave, we are probably more interested in our Brands (and our retail partners ) business performance than we are about our own. It is imperative that our brands are profitable, but competitive if they are not, we won t have a business longer term. The analysts work with the Trading (purchasing), Sales & Marketing departments to understand report on the sales & margin performance of the various categories of products that we sell. This performance is judged in the context of the market. Management Works with other functions within the business as the partner, assisting them with all their requirements on budgetary control, financial planning, project finances, ad-hoc queries, etc. Focused primarily on financial planning 3-year plan preparations, annual budgeting cycle and quarterly forecasting. Credit Control Reporting Assistant With wholesale sales of in excess of 2bn annually, cash collection from our retail partners is a core activity for. The current economic conditions have put enormous pressure on our retail partners cash-flow. The Credit Controller works with retailers to ensure that we are paid for the goods that we deliver, but also to help those retailers who are struggling to do so. The CC Reporting Assistant supports the Credit Controller, reports on performance and works directly with our customers in our efforts to support them. & IT Director As a member of the Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland Board, the FD is responsible to the shareholders of the business for the running of this business. This includes the setting of strategy and all major plans & initiatives, in association with the other Directors of the business. The FD has specific responsibility for ensuring we maximise the return on
investment in the business. However, the FD also has to ensure that our Retail Partners generate an adequate return on their investment, to encourage them to continue to make those investments into the future. The FD is specifically responsible for all Reporting & the Planning Calendar. In MRPI, the FD is also responsible for the IT team this is equivalent in size to the team and also has both an internal & retail focus. Musgrave develops its people to become future leaders and therefore many Directors are promoted internally. Several members of the team have moved to other functions within the business. Three members of the Board are accountants who previously worked within the M RPI team, including the Managing Director. Other former members of the team occupy senior roles in the Trading & Logistics functions. What is? In Musgrave our Function is one of the most important areas of the business. The core purpose of the department is to: safeguard the assets of the business by ensuring a world-class control environment drive business performance through appropriate analysis and relevant commentary maximise the return on investment from the shareholders assist our retail partners to maximise their return in their own businesses comply with all regulatory and statutory obligations What will I be doing? All of our graduates begin their programme together in our Group offices where you will spend one week on an induction programme. You will get to meet all the people you will need to know as well as understanding a little about how we work. The next step will be getting to know our business from the front line back. All graduates will spend two weeks in store getting to understand the real drivers in the business. This placement we feel is an essential part of the programme before you start in the finance function and a further four week placement will be scheduled throughout the duration of the programme. Over the next two and a half years you will follow a structured programme in a real role with real responsibility with all the support necessary. This will involve two rotations in two different locations. The first placement will entail getting to know the finance department structures and processes. It will involve taking on one of a number of roles within specifically designed to assist you with securing the type of experience that you require in order to satisfy the CIMA practical experience requirements. It will be a real job, although obviously junior within the team. It will involve real responsibility, probably in the reporting of weekly business performance, and associated tasks. On the second placement you will start to operate more independently, taking responsibility for specific projects and working alongside the senior team with the Planning Calendar (Budgets & Forecasts).
On the third placement you will work as an assistant to the financial analysts or an assistant to the retail accountants. During the programme you will complete your CIMA exams and we will support you through this development both financially and with study leave.
