Radiologic Technology A.A.S. Program Details Description: Radiologic technologists operate X-ray equipment to perform diagnostic examinations order by a patient s physician. This two-year program offers classroom, college lab and clinical site experiences at various Chicago metropolitan area hospitals. Employment opportunities exist in hospitals, clinics and medical imaging centers. Accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), 20 N. Radiologic Technology Program Admission The Radiology program is a selective admission program. Only the most qualified applicants are accepted. Criteria for acceptance are listed below. The Radiology program requires a background check for all students. No hits on the background check are acceptable. The cost of the background check is the student s responsibility. The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and Clinical Affiliate requirement is that those working in the field of Radiology must have no disqualifying criminal convictions. Please go to www.arrt.org for a list of those convictions. 10-Panel drug test is a requirement by all Radiology students. This must be completed within 30 days of the start of the program. Flu shot and H1N1 vaccine are required by some sites. The cost for the flu shot and H1N1 are the responsibility of the student. All Health requirements must be completed prior to starting the program. All courses for the degree must be passed with a C or better PREREQUISITES Must read and write at a college level. College-level reading and writing can be demonstrated by course equivalency, or score 20 or higher on both Reading and English ACT, or score 70 or higher on COMPASS Reading and 83 or higher on COMPASS Writing skills placement testlevel "004" proficiency on college placement tests in reading and writing or course equivalency MAT 085 or higher within the last five years. In place of MAT085, students can score 2320 or higher on Math ACT, or 46 (Algebra) or higher on the COMPASS Math placement test (ACT and COMPASS placement scores must be within the last two years AHL 120 Comprehensive Medical Terminology- 3 credit class BIS136 or BIS240 Anatomy and Physiology Math, Biology and AHL courses need to be taken within 5 years/placement tests are good for 2 years.

Files are reviewed by the Admission Committee to determine the most qualified students. A Merit evaluation form is completed of prior earned college work or equivalent. Points are awarded for college credit hours, GPA and grades earned for coursework towards an Associates in Applied Science in Radiology. Grades in completed general education courses from the Radiology curriculum will be used in the calculation of points for admission into the Radiologic Technology Program. Any course that is listed in the Radiologic Technology curriculum that is NOT an RAS course may be taken at any time prior to applying to the program. The more courses completed and the higher the grades, the greater the chances of acceptance. Minimum GPA required is 2.5 A technical standards test requirement of one s physical ability must be taken and passed at the clinical site in order for full acceptance to be achieved. This test ensures that the student is physically capable of the work as a Radiologic Technologist. http://www.triton.edu/school-of-health-careers-and-public-service-programs/application. This indicates that the student is interested in pursuing the application process for the Radiology Program. In-district preference should be noted. Due to the large volume of calls and e-mails, questions regarding the program are answered only at information sessions. ******* The Radiologic Technology program will admit only a limited number of students. The number of students admitted is determined by the availability of clinical sites. Clinical sites are chosen because of the appropriate learning environment and clinical supervision. If you have transcripts from another college, please see one of the counselors on campus to have them evaluated. Admission to the program is open to all qualified students. In-District preference applies. Outof-District students are considered after all qualified In-District students are accepted. Non-academic requirements In order to be considered for admission or to be retained in the program after admission, all applicant/students must possess the following nonacademic skills: An applicant/student must be able to speak, hear and to observe patients in order to elicit information and to note nonverbal communications. An applicant/student must be able to communicate in an effective and sensitive manner with patients. An applicant/student must be able to effectively communicate in both oral and written communication with all member of the healthcare team and be able to follow verbal and written directions. An applicant, student must be able to execute motor skills in order to provide necessary care to patients, which include being able to turn and maneuver patients, lift and transfer patients. An applicant/student must be able to operate imaging equipment and hospital equipment including computers. An applicant/student must be able to review and evaluate images to determine the quality of the images as well as demonstrate visual acuity to differentiate subtle shades of gray and color used in imaging modalities. An applicant/student must be able to perform their jobs for prolonged periods without breaks in a typical 8 hour shift.
