Water and Secondary Containment Concrete Structure Repair and Protection of Joint and Crack Sikadur Combiflex Sytem

TYPICAL JOINT OR CRACK SEALING PROBLEMS IN WATER STRUCTURES Water Structure Civil Engineering tructure in water or wet environment give rie to ome particularly difficult joint ealing problem to keep water in and to keep water out! Raw Water Reervoir Bacterial oxidation of organic matter occur. Supended matter ettle out and anaerobic decompoition can occur beneath the ediment. Channel and Culvert High flow rate and abraion problem are poible. Water Treatment Proce and Potable Water Tank Tank for chemical treatment, edimentation, oftening, filtration, dewatering and ettling. Alo torage reervoir. Mechanical tirring and craping, and abraion from olid treatment chemical, can occur. A ph from 2 to 11 i feaible for different tage of the proce. Final water may be ph 6.5 to 9.2. Chemical uch a chlorine, ozone, ulfur dioxide, aluminum ulfate and cautic oda are ued. Predominantly aerobic condition are preent. In potable water tank the jointing ytem mut not contaminate the water upply. Watewater Treatment Proce Concrete tructure include oxidation pond or channel, inlet channel, overflow, edimentation, ettlement, conditioning, and digetion tank. Conventional anaerobic digetion i carried out a a two tage proce. The firt tage require heat to the temperature of 85 to 95 F and produce methane and carbon dioxide gae; the econd tage i ettlement and olid eparation. The watewater treatment environment i, therefore, one of the mot evere for ealant. Secondary Containment Structure Sealant mut have temporary or longterm reitance to toxic or other chemical which have to be contained. No error i poible in thi function. Joint or crack in repair ituation mut reit movement, temperature and chemical over a wide range. Typical Joint Problem in Water Structure In practice, the typical problem joint and crack can be ummarized a follow: Failed Bituminou Joint Exiting joint leak and are filled with thermoplatic bitumen which i extremely difficult and expenive to remove. Thi will leave contaminated concrete joint edge, giving poor bond to ealant. Broken Joint Edge In addition to removing exiting ealant, the joint edge can be broken and damaged, needing extenive mechanical preparation and cotly repair before reealing. Joint Moving In Two Direction Contruction movement joint and joint ealant are normally deigned for movement in only one dimenion. Movement in two or more dimenion Failed Conventional Sealant lead to exceive tre and failure. Joint Moving Vertically Contruction movement joint are normally deigned to move laterally. Additional or alternative vertical movement lead to exceive tre and failure. Joint expoed to water preure on the face can have their lateral movement capabilitie reduced, and, when expoed to back preure, can balloon and fail. Gunned or poured joint ealant can have limited reitance when in contact with aggreive chemical particularly at increaed concentration. Sikadur Combiflex i a unique ytem for waterproofing and ealing thee problem joint or crack. Sikadur Combiflex provide a complete tep-by-tep olution to thee and many other joint ealing problem in both retoration and new contruction project. 1

HOW TO INSTALL SIKADUR COMBIFLEX FAST AND SECURE Thoroughly clean the Apply Sikadur 31 epoxy 1 bond urface mechani- 2 adheive by bruh or 3 cally. Note: No need to remove exiting failed joint ealant. trowel on each ide of the joint or crack. Note: No need to repair all joint noing. Place activated Sikadur Combiflex trip in poition. Roll Sikadur Combiflex 4 trip to exclude air 5 apply a top layer of 6 through the pecial perforation until adheive come through. Note: Allow heeting to drape in lot for high movement joint. With bruh or trowel, Sikadur 31 over entire width of heeting. Note: Do not deliberately wate adheive over red center trip. Remove red center trip before Sikadur 31 fully harden. Note: Thi i bet done within one hour at 73 F (22 C). Overlapping ection or detail are permanently bonded on or off ite uing hot weld gun. 3
