SANTA CLARA COUNTY CONSTRUCTION CAREERS ASSOCIATION (S4CA) Scholarship Fund PREFACE Swinerton Builder s is offering a scholarship fund for 3,000.00 (Three Thousand Dollars) for anyone who qualifies under the selection criteria. This is a one (1) year trial period. At the end of the one (1) year period, Swinerton Builders will review the process and verify that the goals are met in providing continued education to those that are pursuing a career in the construction industry.
I. THE SELECTION PROCESS 1. The Swinerton Builder s scholarship committee will select the Swinerton Builders Scholarship Fund recipients annually, after review of application material. Academic and employer references, academic standing, commitment to the academic program, and other specified criteria will be considered. 2. Parameters for selection include a commitment to careers in the construction industry with a guarantee towards completing a Construction Management or Civil Engineering degree at a Certified Junior College or Four Year University. Character, campus citizenship, campus involvement, volunteer activities, and financial need will be other important considerations for the applicant. 3. Awards may be made to graduating high school seniors, or trades persons that are committed to making the shift towards management. Applicants enrolled full-time in baccalaureate programs are the primary candidates for the awards. Consideration will be given to applicants with outstanding credentials that are enrolled in a certificate program leading to a certificate that will transfer to a baccalaureate program at a Junior College or four-year university. Scholarships will be awarded only for undergraduate study. 4. Completed application form with all supporting documentation must be postmarked by June 1 or the first working day if June 1 falls on a Sunday or holiday. No late applications or parts of the application packet will be accepted. 5. The award is intended to be used during the traditional academic year (fall through spring), and for academic purposes such as tuition, fees, room, board, and/or books. 6. The Swinerton Builders Scholarship Committee reserves the right to determine if an award will be given. 7. Scholarship funds are payable to S4CA. 8. Exceptions to this policy can be made by decision of the Swinerton Builders Scholarship Committee upon individual circumstances. 9. Relatives of members of the Swinerton Builders are not eligible. 10. Scholarship recipient selection(s) will be made without regard to race, age, gender, religion, political beliefs, employment status, or any other factor, which could constitute unfair or illegal discrimination. 11. Student must be a U.S. citizen and must attend college in the U.S. during the duration of the scholarship year. 12. Student must be in good standing, have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative overall grade point average at his/her high school, college or university if currently enrolled in a Construction Management or Civil Engineering program, and be enrolled full-time during the spring semester when the application is being made for the following fall semester. 13. Student must submit a transcript from all colleges/universities attended with his/her application. Transcripts must indicate cumulative grade point average. 14. Decisions of the Swinerton Builders Scholarship Committee are final in all matters related to the above practices and requirements. 15. John Elwood and one or two other members of the Leadership group from the Silicon Valley Office will administer/assign the Scholarship Fund.
