INTERMEDIATE AERIAL HOOP COURSE INFORMATION COURSE FACTS Course Name: Spin City Intermediate Aerial Hoop Instructor Number of Training Hours: 16 Cost of Course: 295 (face-to-face) 240 (online training) for training outside of the UK see pricing in Course FAQ s for currency conversions. COURSE SUMMARY The Spin City Intermediate Aerial Hoop Instructor Course focuses on developing the basic skills taught at the Beginners Level while adding on the next block of over 40 core moves in the Spin City syllabus. At this point in your instructor training, we start increasing your knowledge of core concepts such as training lifting, execution and clean movement. We will then expand your instructional toolbox, giving you a range of teaching methods that work effectively when students are at height and inverted. We will discuss class planning in the context of progress chains and how you can use combinations and sequences to both challenge your students, avoid them hitting move plateaus and also ensure safe progression to an advanced level. This course is highly physical in nature as this is the point where we will cover how to introduce dynamic movement to your students through our five stage plan preparing students for the advanced syllabus. This leads us to an in-depth discussion on static and dynamic spotting techniques, which are paramount at an intermediate level. You can expect to leave this course with a wealth of new moves, skills and techniques to reinvigorate your aerial hoop classes allowing you to take your students to the next level. COURSE OVERVIEW UNIT 1 INTRODUCTION TO INTERMEDIATE HOOP This unit will discuss what makes a move an intermediate move and how you know your students are ready to progress onto the intermediate syllabus. We will cover a series of markers that you can use to assess your students and techniques to introduce more challenging moves. UNIT 2 INTERMEDIATE HOOP MOVES Unit 2 starts with a progression of the core concepts. We will look at different techniques to introduce lifting into your classes and how you can encourage your students to execute moves more efficiently and move cleanly between positions. Muscular balance and bi-lateral training is covered before we go onto introduce over 40 of the core intermediate syllabus moves, looking at each move in detail from the teaching and safety points, to progressions and regressions also touching upon common problems.

UNIT 3 INTRODUCTION TO DYNAMIC MOVEMENT To begin this unit, we will recap the core concepts of creating momentum on a hoop; spinning, beating and popping. This will be progressed into our five stage plan to help you introduce dynamic movement to your students. We will cover the rules of teaching dynamic movement, then give you 14 variations on basic rolls that you can work through with your students. UNIT 4 INTERMEDIATE STRENGTH AND STRETCHING At an intermediate level there is a great requirement for students to be developing strength and flexibility, this is the focus of unit 4. We look at a range of strength and conditioning exercises, areas of flexibility that need to be trained to progress onto an advanced level and methods of increasing hoop stamina and endurance. UNIT 5 PROGRESSIVE TEACHING AND COACHING Unit five looks at ways to adapt your teaching methods to enable you to coach students working at height and inverted. We will cover how to progress towards a more student led system of coaching, look at how you can effectively use progress chains to build lesson plans and how combinations and sequences will allow you to both challenge your students, avoid them hitting plateaus and also ensure safe progression to an advanced level. UNIT 6 INTERMEDIATE HEALTH AND SAFETY Our final unit will look at ways you will need to adapt the health and safety information covered on your beginner s course to make it relevant for an intermediate group. Again, our main focus at this point is spotting, where we go into the different methods in more detail, progressing to cover spotting dynamic movement and partner spotting. COURSE ASSESSMENT The assessment for the Intermediate Instructor Course comes in two parts: a technical assessment and a teaching assessment. For the technical assessment, you will need to submit a video of yourself performing 80% of the intermediate moves you have been taught on the course with safe and correct technique. Some skills are compulsory, some moves will need to be performed on both sides, moves can be performed individually or in sequences but each move needs to be held for a minimum of 3 seconds. The second part of the assessment is your teaching assessment. So that we can assess your intermediate teaching skills, you will be expected to film yourself teaching an hour-long intermediate class which you will submit for assessment. To pass this area of your course, you will be expected to achieve 70% of the teaching assessment criteria along with all compulsory criteria. The criteria will be discussed in full on your course and are also available in advance by contacting the Spin City Team. Both elements will be graded by an accredited assessor and you have up to one year after your course to complete your assessment.

COURSE FAQs Why should I train with Spin City? Spin City was established in 2007 with the aim of getting more women into exercise. Gyms can often prove an intimidating environment to women, as can sports clubs - especially if you have been out of exercise for a while. We wanted to create exercise classes for women that provided great fitness benefits in a social, fun and friendly environment that was open to women of all ages, sizes, abilities and fitness levels. Aerial fitness was the perfect answer! After successful expansion to five venues, Director Kate Edwards made the decision to develop an Instructor Training Programme. Having run a successful internal instructor training programme for 18 months, Kate spent two years researching and developing concepts for the courses drawing inspiration from dance, yoga and pilates, sports coaching and sports science. Based on this, we believe our courses are the most comprehensive on the market applying both classic and cutting-edge fitness techniques to the concept of aerial. Our courses have a host of unique benefits including our online video library which supports our extensive training manuals, providing you with a learning resource throughout your instructional career as well as access to an ongoing support network of help, advice and CPD training and tutorials. If you are still unsure, why not read our testimonials and find out what others say about our training? Who wrote my instructor course? All the Spin City Instructor Training Courses are written by Kate Edwards. Kate Edwards is the owner and director of Spin City Aerial Fitness, one of the largest aerial fitness schools in the UK. A fully qualified Fitness Instructor, Group Exercise Instructor and Personal Trainer for over 10 years; Kate specialises in the fitness aspect of aerial training teaching at her dedicated studios in Bristol, Exeter, Hungerford, Brimpton and Newbury. Kate is the World Pole Sports and Fitness 2011 Doubles Pole Runner-Up and winner of the Best Entertainer award alongside Bendy Kate Czepulkowski, a former student of Kate s. She is also the 2011 British Universities Instructor Champion; an integral part of the Equity Pole Dancers Working Party striving to constantly increase standards in the pole industry; a regular X-Pole representative and also the co-founder of the UK Professional Pole Championships - the UK s premier professional pole fitness competition. Kate is constantly looking to further her own education and training, she has completed aerial training with NECCA and Circomedia amongst others and holds over 30 fitness qualifications including Advanced Anatomy and Physiology, Group Exercise, Pilates, Pre- and Post-Natal Training, Shoulder Stability, Advanced Flexibility and Injury Prevention. Kate is a Level 5 PDC-certified instructor and a Level 3 REPs accredited instructor. She has trained some of the world s top pole performers to win both national and international titles. Kate now specialises in training other instructors how to teach Pole Fitness, Aerial Hoop and Pole Fabric applying her extensive fitness background to help educate instructors worldwide. She has written five certified aerial fitness courses which are accredited internationally with ACE, REPs, SkillsActive and the PDC. Alongside her training courses, Kate writes and produces the Pole Bible and the Aerial Hoop Bible two of the leading education resources available for aerial dancers worldwide.
