The value of human capital, strategic and staff planning as critical elements for HRM and overall organizational success. The employment life cycle from training, employee development, performance evaluation, and performance management. Human resource systems, both technical and organizational, within the organization including: employee/labor relations, compensation, and benefit systems. Policy dynamics and legal requirements of the human resource function. Note: The learning outcomes for each week of the course are based on both the content provided online by the facilitator and the assigned readings in the text. Grammar, spelling, etc. 10% Discussion Questions Students will provide feedback related to discussion questions developed within the forum. These questions will be based on specific relevant topics from the field of HRM. Case Study Analyses Several case studies will be presented to students throughout the course. Students will be asked to develop, write, and analyze several case studies. Successful completion of this assignment will use the following format: Interview 1. Overview of the case study this is a general summary of the case study. 2. HR issues involved this is a listing of the specific Human Resource issues involved in the case study. 3. Discussion of HR issues this discusses the issues in detail relating the issues to topics covered in the required text. 4. Student Opinions this allows the student to discuss his/her opinion related to the case study and its outcome. It will also allow the student to give possible solutions to the problems stated in the case study. Students will pick either the Human Resource Manager in their organization or choose an organization and HR manager to interview (interview should last approximately 45 minutes). Interview questions will be developed in the first week based on peer feedback. This interview will be designed to examine the role of the
HR manager in day-to-day operations as well as long range strategic planning and will tie in to topics to be covered in the course. Final Case Analysis In week 8 you will perform a Final Case Analysis. The Final Case Analysis will be emailed to you by the class facilitator during week 8 and must be completed and emailed back to the facilitator by the end of the course. During each week of the class the student will be required to do the following: 1. Read the assigned reading in the text as well as possible outside readings such as professional journals, magazine articles, etc. 2. Post materials to and participate in the forum. 3.
