REPORT TO SCHOOL COMMUNITIES SPORTS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM Engaging young people through education, industry and community partnerships. Program Host Schools Sporting Partners
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Sports Education and Development Australia (SEDA) was established in 2006 as a provider of senior secondary education and training in partnership with schools. The concept was established to meet the needs of young people requiring an applied learning education focus that was set in the real world. The disengagement of young people in the senior years often results in lack of attendance, motivation and reflects a lack of direction and meaning in what they are learning. Schools and SEDA have responded to the needs of many young people through a program that engages them in their study, motivates them to challenge themselves and improves their skills. The Principal Committee has, and will, continue to meet regularly to strengthen the policy, guidelines and quality of the program. VICTORIA UNIVERSITY Victoria University, as the Registered Training Organisation, has made an enormous contribution to the development of program VET delivery, program management, professional development, administration and partnerships with key government organizations. STUDENT ENROLLMENTS Students and parents are involved in a comprehensive counselling process before enrolling in the program. This process outlines the educational structure, the potential future pathway, and allows students and parents the opportunity to clearly determine whether the learning environment will suit the students learning style and provide an engaging and challenging experience. This process has proved to be very successful in ensuring students entering the program are fully informed and has consequently lead to very high attendance, retention and completion rates. 600 Student Enrollments 2007-2009 500 No of Enrollments 400 300 200 100 2007 2008 2009 0 STUDENT ATTENDANCE Student attendance has been consistently high over the three years of the program.
