The support of our community allowed Komen NC Alabama grant recipients to reach 13,224 people with our early detection message in 2014-15. M ake an Im p act Thank you for supporting the NURSES FOR THE CURE Challenge! Participating in the Nurses for a Cure Challenge is easy - just follow these easy steps... 1. Start Planning Today! 2. Choose your dates: Send out a "Save the Date" so that everyone gets it on their calendars. Ask for space in your school's newsletter or intranet. Ask for time to speak at regularly scheduled faculty and/or student meetings. 3. Create a fundraising campaign: There are a variety of ways your school can help... - Set up an awareness table and donation box - Make and sell pink ribbons - Form a Race for the Cure team of registered runners, walkers, and supporters and ask them to help raise money - Fundraisers and Events 4. Use Komen NC Alabama "Pink" Resources: Komen NC Alabama has a number of materials to help you in planning your Pink event. The following items are included in this toolkit and can also be downloaded free at komenncalabama.org - everything you need can be found here! - Fundraising Ideas - Sample letter/e-blast - Flyers/Posters 5. Next Steps: For more information, please contact Susan G. Komen North Central Alabama at 205-263-1700. Funding from Komen North Central Alabama provided over 2,978 clinical services, such as mammograms and diagnostic screenings in the 2014-2015 fiscal year. Nursing programs from across our service area have always been great supporters of the Komen North Central Alabama Race for the Cure. Thank you for your continued support! As the world's largest network of breast cancer survivors and activists, Susan G. Komen saves lives, empowers people, ensures quality care for all, and energizes science to find a cure.

Ways to Support: The Options Are Endless Top 10 Ways You Can Make An Impact... 1. Make breast cancer awareness a team effort with a school pink door or office decorating contest. Make it a daylong event with pink treats - vote for your favorite office or door for a small donation - a fun prize for the winner(s). 2. Do you have what it takes to be the Prettiest Person in Pink? Select a group of students, faculty, and staff to enter into this awesome contest! Each person wears a pink wig, hat, makeup - anything that will make them a winner! 3. School BBQ Luncheon: a great way to bring everyone together for some food that will make you smile. Bring a grill and ask for a donation to eat Southern style. 4. It is simple and effective - ask faculty, staff, and students to drop their extra change into a bucket each day. You will be surprised at how much change you receive! 5. Personal vending machine: Have you ever wondered how much money the vending machines clear in a single week? Find out! Purchase some favorites in bulk (or better yet, have them donated!!), mark them up, and sell them for $1 or $2. 6. Awareness Ribbons and Wreaths: Purchase (or ask for donations!) pink ribbon, get a group of volunteers together, and create fabulous pink ribbons, wreaths, and other one-of-a-kind awareness items to sell. 7. Design an awareness t-shirt and have faculty, staff, and students wear them throughout the month of October. Make the shirts available for purchase by the public. 8. Host a "Lunch and Learn". Have lunch catered for a small fee and invite a Komen NC Alabama representative to come talk about the Affiliate, breast health awareness, and how your school can help. 9. Designate a "Pink Day" and ask everyone to wear pink to that day. Host a bake sale or hold a special collection to support Komen North Central Alabama. 10. Distribute pink flowers on your campus, in the surrounding community, or at a local support group to honor those who are survivors....the only limit is your imagination... Your invest ment in our Mission: Susan G. Komen North Central Alabama is proud of the way it manages and safeguards the generous contributions received from individual donors, corporations, and other organizations. Seventy-five percent of all funds received go towards local programs and services that provide breast health education, screening (mammography), and quality of life support services. The remaining 25% of net funds raised supports groundbreaking research right here in Alabama, as well as other research projects around the world. Did You Know?...A $250 donation can fund up to two mammograms and two clinical breast exams in our community. Your donation makes a big difference in the lives of women in Alabama!
