ADP V14 FAQs Version 1.0
ADP V14 FAQs What is ADP? Can I install ADP on a networked PC? ADP is a digital version of the paper Nautical Publications and consists of three product groups: Admiralty Digital List of Lights, Admiralty Total Tide and Admiralty Digital Radio Signals vol6. They are fully vectorised applications which can be automatically updated and sold as a data service on subscription rather than per edition. ADP is widely accepted as meeting SOLAS carriage requirements for nautical reference guides, and contains the same information as their paper equivalents. ADP is designed to be installed on standalone computers each ADP Licence is suitable for a Main and Back Up computer with a common Start Up Key and 2 separate Activation Keys. How do I add extra products and/or services to my licence? How do I get an Activation Key by email? To add extra geographic areas or another ADP product group, users need to contact their Admiralty Chart Agent who will add the new products and/or services and then provide them with new Activation Keys to be installed in their PC(s). The Activation Key request must come from the PC on which ADP is installed. The request captures codes from the host PC which links the subsequent Activation Key to the one PC. If you have email facilities from the PC on which ADP is installed When running the ADP Program without an Activation Key the Licence Key Wizard Start-Up Key Only screen should automatically appear. (Alternatively this can be obtained from Start > Programs > Admiralty Digital Publications > Licence Key Wizard) To obtain your Key, please take the following steps from the Licence Key Wizard Start- Up Key Only Screen: 1) Select Request or Add an Activation Key button 2) 3) Select Request an Activation Key button 4) 5) The 'Licence Key Wizard Main or Backup Computer' screen is displayed showing your computer name 6) Select the MAIN computer button 7) 8) The 'Licence Key Wizard Create Activation Key Request' screen is displayed 9) Select Request your Activation Key directly by Email and this will generate an email which is addressed to ADPMailGateway@ukho.gov.uk 10) In the subject line. AKR +(PC Number/Name) will be showing. In the body of the email, some text is added. Do not amend any of this at all. 11) Click on the Send button to submit your request. Providing the Key request is sent in correctly, you should receive an automated email back within minutes. To install on your Back-up PC, repeat the steps above ensuring that you select the BACKUP Computer button.
If you do not have email facilities from the PC on which ADP is installed You can send this request from another PC which has email facilities. When running the ADP Program without an Activation Key the Licence Key Wizard Start-Up Key Only screen should automatically appear. (Alternatively this can be obtained from Start > Program Files > Admiralty Digital Publications > Licence Key Wizard) To obtain your Key, please take the following steps from the Licence Key Wizard Startup Key Only Screen: 1) Select Request or Add an Activation Key button 2) 3) Select Request an Activation Key button 4) The 'Licence Key Wizard Main or Backup Computer' screen is displayed showing your computer name 5) Select the MAIN computer button 6) 7) The 'Licence Key Wizard Create Activation Key Request' screen is displayed 8) Choose the option Save the Request to a Simple Text File (Save to media/usb) 9) Following the instructions on the newly created Request, create an email which is addressed to ADPMailGateway@ukho.gov.uk from a different PC 10) Copy and Paste the AKR+(PC Number/Name) from the media/usb into the subject line of the email and the text in the body of the email. Do not amend any of this at all. 11) Click on the Send button to submit your request. Providing the Key request is sent in correctly, you should receive an automated email back within minutes. To install on your Back-up PC, repeat the steps above ensuring that you select the BACKUP computer button and a different computer name to your Main PC. How do I activate ADP over the internet? How do I install my Activation Key? How do I renew my area data files? When ADP is installed on your PC and the Start Up is also installed, the Licence Key Wizard Start Up Key Only window will appear. Select Activate over the Internet Select the computer you want to activate ADP on, Main or Back Up Select the option Activate over the Internet Select OK In the ADP Licence Key Wizard, users need to select Request or Add Activation Key, then select Add an Activation Key and then enter the string of numbers and letters either sent by your Admiralty Chart Agent or received directly by email. Activation Keys are locked to specific computers and cannot be transferred from one to another. To renew your area data files, users need to contact their Admiralty Chart Agent who will renew them and then provide them with new Activation Keys to be installed in their PC(s).
I have lost access to my ADLL/ADRS6 data and have an error message. What should I do? I received a Start-Up Key for ADP but it expired before I installed the software - how can I get an Activation Key? When I open ADLL or ADRS6, why can t I see a list view or a filter view? Which flag States have approved ADP as covering the carriage requirement? Why can t I apply ADP updates received from my ADP data provider such as ChartCo? Providing that you have installed the correct Start Up and Activation keys into your computer and that your ADP Licence is valid, you should be able to view all the data on ADLL and ADRS6. If an error message has appeared on your screen, please forward it to your Admiralty Chart Agent who may be able to provide some advice. If the issue is still not resolved, please send the error message that you are receiving with an explanation of the operation you were carrying out when the error message appeared to the UKHO Customer Services at customerservices@ukho.gov.uk. The Start-Up Key can always be used to install ADP, even if the actual key has expired. However, the Start-up Key will not allow you to display any information beyond its onemonth expiry date and it will not allow you to apply any ADLL or ADRS6 updates. You can get an Activation Key at any time after installing your Start-Up Key on ADP by email. ADP V14 allows you to activate your software directly over the internet (please see ADP Start Up Guide and relevant Activation FAQs for instructions). This problem occurs when these views have been removed. To insert new views, select Windows from the Top bar, then select Windows > Filter Windows from the ADLL or ADRS6 toolbar. Please see the 'Flag States Approval' Tab under each ADP product (i.e. ADLL, ADRS6, ATT) contained on the UKHO website: http://www.ukho.gov.uk/productsandservices/digitalpublications/pages/adll.aspx If updates have been applied using your data provider and the error message This update file cannot be used because it does not follow on from your current data is displayed, you will need to update your system with one of the UKHO ADP updating options using the Data Updating Wizard. Unlike the ADP updates, ChartCo updates are not cumulative and have to be applied week by week. To correct the problem, update your ADP using one of the UKHO ADP updating methods then continue to use the ChartCo service on a weekly basis Why do I only have one Start- Up Key when I have bought three products? Does ADP meet SOLAS requirements? What do I need in the way of a backup for e-nps? Can I use ADP paperless? There is only 1 Start-Up Key supplied for ADP which contains ADLL, ADRS6 and ATT. You only need to install 1 Start-Up Key in your computer to be able to view all 3 products. Yes ADP is produced using official data and is designed to meet SOLAS requirements. See the UKHO website at: http://www.ukho.gov.uk/productsandservices/digitalpublications/pages/adll.aspx to ensure it is accepted by the appropriate flag state. ADP allows 2 installations on independent PC s, some Flag States may permit or require other options; therefore Ship owners should consult their national maritime administration for specific advice. Provided you are operating dual systems with independent power supplies and have carried out a risk assessment according to the guidelines laid out by your Flag State - Yes.
Does ADP include T&P NMs? What is the average size of the weekly update files to download? How many devices may I use? May I use ADP on other devices, my Android, mobile phone/tablet for example? How does the pricing work? Do I need any special software? Will all Admiralty Publications be available as ADP? If my vessel is laid up will I get a re-fund? How do I activate ADP over the internet? The computer on which I am going to run ADP does not have email. How can I get my activation key? Yes. T&P NMs are applied to ADLL and ADRS6 where necessary and annotated accordingly on the display. The maximum you should expect to receive is 1.25Mb. Each vessel will be able to install two devices under each licence. For additional copies more licences should be purchased. ADP can only be used on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. ADP is not suitable for use on Android mobile phones or Tablets The pricing is based on areas for an annual subscription, with the ability to download and install the latest amendments. All three ADP products are displayed within their own software which is available to download from our UKHO website or from the ADP product CD. UKHO is fully committed to providing digital alternatives for versions of all its NPs. This will not be possible, as once ADP has been unlocked a re-bate cannot be offered. When ADP is installed on your PC and the Start Up key is also installed, the Licence Key Wizard Start Up Key Only window will appear. Select Activate over the Internet Select the computer you want to activate ADP on, Main or Back Up Select the option Activate over the Internet Select OK If you do not have email facilities from the PC on which ADP is installed You can send this request from another PC which has email facilities. When running the ADP Program without an Activation Key the Licence Key Wizard Start-Up Key Only screen should automatically appear. (Alternatively this can be obtained from Start > Program Files > Admiralty Digital Publications > Licence Key Wizard) To obtain your Key, please take the following steps from the Licence Key Wizard Startup Key Only Screen: 1) Select Request or Add an Activation Key button 2) 3) Select Request an Activation Key button 4) The 'Licence Key Wizard Main or Backup Computer' screen is displayed showing
your computer name 5) Select the MAIN computer button 6) 7) The 'Licence Key Wizard Create Activation Key Request' screen is displayed 8) Choose the option Save the Request to a Simple Text File (Save to media/usb) 9) Following the instructions on the newly created Request, create an email which is addressed to ADPMailGateway@ukho.gov.uk from a different PC 10) Copy and Paste the AKR+(PC Number/Name) from the media/usb into the subject line of the email and the text in the body of the email. How do I get my updates for ADLL and ADRS6 area data files on my PC? There are 5 possible ways to obtain these updates: 1) ADP Update CD. Available from your Admiralty Chart Agent on a weekly basis as part of the licence agreement. This is recommended if there are a large number of updates to be applied as it is the quickest method 2) Email direct to ADP PC 3) Non-direct email to non-adp PC and then transfer across 4) Automatically from the internet 5) From the UKHO Website http://updates.ukho.gov.uk/ Update by CD Note If the vessel has a large amount of updates to apply, it is recommended that they obtain an Update CD from their Admiralty Chart Agent. Insert the Update CD into your disc drive then select Start > Programs > Admiralty Digital Publications > Data Updating Wizard Select Apply updates you've already downloaded or received then Next Select Update from CD Using the dropdown menu select the source folder for the update depending on the ADP Version that is installed on your PC, (ADP V12.1 updates will cease from 28 May 2014).
