Course-specific provisions for the dual bachelor s study programme Maritime Management dated 21 September 2012 On 20 September 2012, the Behörde für Wissenschaft und Forschung der Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg (Hamburg authorities for science and research) approved the coursespecific provisions passed by the university council on 10 September 2012 for the dual bachelor s study programme in Maritime Management pursuant to Sec. 116 (3) in conjunction with Sec. 108 (2) to (5) HmbHG [ Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz : Hamburg s Law governing Third-Level Institutions] dated 18 July 2001 (HmbGVBI [ Hamburgisches Gesetz- und Verordnungsblatt : Hamburg s Law and Ordinance Gazette] p. 171), last amended on 20 December 2011 (HmbGVBl. p. 550) in the version below.

Preamble These course-specific provisions for the dual bachelor s study programme in Maritime Management supplement the general course and exam regulations for all bachelor s study programmes dated 21 September 2012 as amended. 1 Course objective (1) The dual study programme Maritime Management combines business administration studies that are related to practice with simultaneous systematic in-company training. There are two locations for learning: at the university and in the company, and both of these are integrated in the course from a content, time and organisational perspective. (2) Through the combination of theoretical and practical training, the study programme provides the academic and methodological fundamentals of business administration and the maritime industry, significant research findings, more in-depth knowledge in individual areas of application as well as general subject-related key skills, in particular the ability to independently apply knowledge and skills related to business administration and the maritime industry the ability to independently analyse issues relating to business and the maritime industry in a professional setting with the help of the scientific methods of business administration theory and the maritime industry and the ability to act responsibly in a business context. In addition, special events are organised relating to shipping and ship finance, ship transportation law and logistics. 2 Academic title The successfully completed bachelor s exam leads to an undergraduate qualification for which the academic title of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) is awarded. 3 Structure of the study programme (1) The bachelor s study programme Maritime Management comprises 180 credits (Cr). The course breaks down into 7 core modules in business administration which account for a total of 48 credits, 7 sector-customised business administration modules adjusted to the maritime industry which account for a total of 41 credits, 4 maritime and transportation modules which account for a total of 30 credits, 6 support modules which account for a total of 34 credits and 3 electives which account for a total of 15 credits, as well as the bachelor s thesis including the colloquium, which together account for 12 credits. (2) The electives include the general electives, the Special Logistics elective and the Study Trip Transportation and Logistics. (3) Five credits can be earned from general electives. The offering comprises in particular events that are interdisciplinary in nature and thus serve especially to provide general knowledge, to improve foreign language skills, to aid personnel development and the development of soft skills. Irrespective of which semester they are in, students can put together events individually which are based on their knowledge, interests and skills. The offering is announced to students at the beginning of each academic year. 2

(4) In the Study Trip Transportation and Logistics elective, students can choose between different specialisations and locations. The study trip counts for 2 credits. (5) In the Special Logistics elective (8 credits), students have the option to choose certain topics relating to logistics and the maritime industry that are geared to the specific requirements of the individual company and in which knowledge and methods relating to logistics and the maritime industry are looked at in more depth. The students can choose from different 16-hour events. 32 of those hours have to be completed on the topic of ship finance. The offering is announced to students in the second academic year. 4 Course and exam structure (1) On the dual bachelor s degree programme Maritime Management, each semester comprises a theory phase at the university and a practical phase at the company. A theory phase at the university comprises lecture weeks, special weeks and exam weeks. Special weeks are when events take place which due to their special organisational requirements do not fit into the structure of the regular lecture weeks, for example study trips, communication seminars or project work. (2) The study programme breaks down into 3 sections: In the first academic year ( basics year ), students learn the fundamental core competencies of business administration as well as logistics-specific knowledge. Students also acquire more in-depth methodological expertise. In the second academic year ( expansion year ), students expand in particular on the basic professional and methodological knowledge acquired, particularly in terms of company functions and structures. In addition, students are taught the fundamentals of the maritime industry. In the third academic year ( in-depth year ), students can use electives to acquire an academic specialisation that meets their own preferences and the needs of the dual cooperation partner which can be used to build their individual profile for professional direction or to deepen their methodological training. Every student should write his/her bachelor's thesis in the third academic year. (3) The professional part of the dual course is carried out at the company with which a study agreement was concluded. By teaching special technical knowledge in the respective area of business in addition to general basics, the company has the chance to have its size, industry and process taken into consideration. During the professional phase, the companies support the course content on the basis of the module descriptions. (4) HSBA ensures that the professional part of the dual course is carried out in accordance with the skills and qualification objectives defined in the module descriptions. In particular, HSBA lecturers also support the students during their practical phase to this end, and project work or practical reports have to be completed that are focused on the professional part of the course. 3
