1 Explanation of the Study and Examination Regulations for the Master's Degree Program in Lightweight Construction and Composite Technology at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences Fachhochschule Augsburg of 27th January 2011 Based on the bylaws amendment of 28 th April 2015 On the basis of Art. 13 Para. 1 Clause 2, Art. 58 Para. 1 Clause 1, and Art. 61 Para. 2 Clause 1 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (Bayerisches Hochschulgesetz/BayHSchG) of May 23rd, 2006, BayRS WFK, the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences hereby enacts the following bylaws: 1 Purpose of the Study and Examination Regulations ¹These Study and Examination Regulations are intended to supplement and augment the Framework Examination Regulations for Universities of Applied Sciences (Rahmenprüfungsordnung für die Fachhochschulen/RaPO) of 17th October 2001 (BayRS WFK) and the General Examination Regulations (Allgemeine Prüfungsordnung) of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences of 1st August 2007, as amended from time to time. ²These Study and Examination Regulations also serve as the legal basis for potential cooperation with partner domestic and foreign universities. 2 Study Goals ¹The goal of the master's program is to qualify graduates of mechanical engineeringrelated Bachelor s degree programs for a major job in development, project planning and operations in the industry. ²The focus of the program contents lies on the thoroughly deepening of methodological abilities and skills, as well as gaining practice-orientated specialist knowledge. ³Moreover, independent work and interdisciplinary thinking are encouraged especially. ⁴Alongside the technical and scientific further qualification, the increasing importance of economical, organizational and linguistic expertise, teamwork and leadership is also taken into account. 3 Required qualifications, post qualification (1) ¹The prerequisite for acceptance to the Master's Degree Program Lightweight Construction and Composite Technology is a completed Bachelor s degree program with at least 210 ECTS points in mechanical engineering-related Degree Programs with a final grade of 2,2 or higher. ²If the final grade of the previously studied degree is between 2,8 and 2,3, admission is permitted after a successful admission interview, outlined in Annex 2. ³A completed degree counts as mechanical engineering-related, if the following minimum requirements have been met: 1

2 Area Minimum number of ECTS points Mathematical or natural sciences Basics (mathematics, chemistry, physics) Engineering science Basics (mechanics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics) Mechanical engineering-specific basics (machine elements, design, measurement technology, control technology, production technique) Degree program-specific basics (materials technology (including basics of composite technology, numerical mathematics, project management) Sum 100 ⁴The requirement of the reversal of the burden of proof according to Art. 63 BayHSchG should be taken note of. ⁵Graduates with degrees recognized as being equivalent are also admitted. ⁶The decision, whether the conditions according to Clause 1, Clause 2 and/or Clause 5 are met, lies with the Examination Board. (2) ¹Relevant knowledge of English in written and oral form. ²Admission conditions: Minimum level B2, European Framework of Reference for Languages. ³Whether the documented knowledge of English is sufficient is decided by either the Program Leader or Examination Board. (3) 1 Applicants, who have graduated or who are expected to graduate according to Para. 1, with less than 210 ECTS points, but at least 180 ECTS points, can be admitted according to Para They must gain the required 210 ECTS points within the first year after enrollment through post qualification; insofar enrollment takes place conditionally. (4) ¹Graduates of a Bachelor s degree program in Mechanical Engineering may do the post qualification by attending compulsory elective modules from the Bachelor s module catalog of the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering or further compulsory elective modules of the Master s degree program. ²For graduates of other degree programs, the Examination Board may determine other courses as substitute, which have to be attended for post qualification. ³No modules can be chosen, which were part of the first degree program. ⁴The master's examination is incidentally only passed, if the additionally gained ECTS points from the post qualification have been proved. 2

3 4 Prescribed Period of Study, Structure and Organization of the Program (1) ¹The Master s program is offered as a full-time program. ²The prescribed period of study is three semesters. (2) ¹The degree program consists of two theoretical semesters and the third semester with the master thesis. (3) The allocation of the modules and module parts to the semesters can be found in the curriculum. The individual module descriptions of the subject-specific content can be found in the module handbook. (4) ¹The Faculty may determine minimum numbers of participants for the compulsory elective modules. ²In the case of insufficient numbers of participants there is no entitlement to certain offerings. (5) There is no entitlement to the running of the Master s Program in Lightweight Construction and Composite Technology, in the case of insufficient numbers of qualified applicants. 5 Modules, module parts, contact hours, courses and examinations (1) ¹The degree program is divided into modules. ²A module comprises of one or more module parts of a definable subject area. ³The specialised module allows a free combination of compulsory elective modules. (2) All courses, including seminars, project work and examinations are offered in English only. (3) ¹Modules, module parts, their contact hours, the type of courses and examinations, as well as the ECTS points can be found in Annex 1 of these Study and Examination Regulations. ²Specifics are defined by the curriculum. (4) ¹Modules are divided into compulsory and compulsory elective modules. ²Compulsory modules are mandatory for all students on this degree program. ³Compulsory elective modules may be offered individually or in groups. ⁴Students must after consultation of these Study and Examination Regulations choose a certain selection. ⁵The chosen modules are considered compulsory modules. (5) ¹Apart from compulsory and compulsory elective modules, students may also choose elective modules. ²Elective modules are modules, which are not required to achieve study objectives and are not in the curriculum. ³No ECTS points are given for elective modules. 3

4 6 Calculation of final grades, overall grades (1) Modules/module parts may be graded in a differentiated way in accordance with 7 Para. 1 of the General Examination Regulations of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences. (2) For the calculation of final module grades, the ECTS points in accordance with Column 4 of Annex 1 are referred to, unless not otherwise stated in Column 8 of Annex 1. (3) ¹An overall grade is formed. ²The overall grade is calculated with the ECTS points of the final module grades outlined in Paragraph 2 and the grade of the master thesis, unless not otherwise stated in Column 8 of Annex 1. 7 Examination Board (1) ¹An Examination Board consists of one chairperson and at least two other members, who are all full-time professors in the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering. ²The Faculty Council may determine that the Examination Board for the Bachelor s degree program Mechanical Engineering can take on the duties in accordance with Para. 1. (2) ¹The Examination Board is responsible for the execution of the procedure in accordance with 3 and 4. ²It can use an approval committee for this purpose, which consists of three full-time professors in the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering. 8 Curriculum (1) ¹The Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering creates a curriculum to document the course offerings, which is not part of the Study regulation. 2 The curriculum indicates the sequence of specific activities in the program of study 3 The curriculum defines in particular the examination dates. (2) ¹The curriculum shall be published openly to the entire University of Applied Sciences. ²New provisions must be announced at the latest by the beginning of the lecture period in which the provisions are to be applied for the first time. ³In particular, the curriculum contains provisions and information regarding, unless stated in the Annex: a) The apportionment of ECTS points and semester hours per module parts and modules to the semesters, 4

5 b) The compulsory elective subject with the number of semester hours and ECTS points, c) The types of courses in the individual modules/module parts, d) The type and length of examinations, e) The study goals and contents in the individual modules or module parts, f) Further requirements for performance assessments and proof of attendance. 9 Master Thesis (1) The degree program includes a final paper (master's thesis) with colloquium. (2) ¹The master's thesis is normally written during the third semester. ²It can be registered, if a minimum of 40 ECTS points has been gained up to that stage. ³ECTS points gained as part of the required post qualification are not taken into consideration in this case. (3) The master thesis s purpose is to show the students ability to independently solve a Mechanical Engineering problem with a scientific foundation. (4) The topic of the master's thesis should be such that it can be completed as a rule in six months of dedicated work. (5) ¹The master's thesis must be personally presented and explained openly to the entire University of Applied Sciences as part of a Master s colloquium. ²The quality of the presentation is included in the evaluation. (6) ¹The master's thesis must be submitted as one bound copy to the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering s office. ²The examiner may demand a copy in digital form. (7) The master's thesis may be written in a language other than English with the permission of the Examination Board and the agreement of the examiner (adviser) in question. (8) In addition, the provisions stated in the Framework Examination Regulations (RaPO) and the General Examination Regulations of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences apply. 10 Passing the Master's Examination The master's examination has been passed when satisfactory final grades or evaluations have been achieved in all of the compulsory modules listed in Annex 1 and 5

6 in the specialised module (module no. I1), including the number of ECTS points indicated there. 11 Academic Degree, Diploma (1) Upon successful completion of the degree program, the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences grants the academic degree Masters of Engineering", abbreviated "M -Eng". (2) A report card is issued to mark the successful completion of the program in accordance with the template in the Annex of the General Examination Regulations of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences; a certificate is issued to mark the granting of the academic degree, as well as a Diploma Supplement. (3) The title of the master's thesis is indicated on the diploma. 12 Application of examination criteria As far as the Bylaws do not state otherwise, the relevant rules of the Framework Examination Regulations (RaPO) of 17th October 2001 GVBl p.686, as well as the General Examination Regulations of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences of 1st August 2007 as amended apply. 13 Entry into Effect ¹These Study and Examination Regulations entered into effect on 1st March ²They apply to all students, who start their studies on this degree program in the winter semester 2013/2014. 9 Annex 2: Admission interview for applicants with a mechanical engineeringrelated degree program in accordance with 3 Ziff.(1) Admission interview: Graduates with a mechanical engineering-related degree, which meets the criteria of 3 Ziff. (1) Clause 3 and a grade between 2,3 and 2,8 may only be accepted after a successful admission interview. The admission interview serves to establish a prediction whether the applicants are able to successfully complete the Master's Degree Program based on their previous knowledge, abilities and competences. Admission is only granted, if the minimum score of 21 out of 30 points is reached in the interview. The admission interview is held by the Program leader together with an Observer, who has been picked by the Faculty Council. It is held at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences with at least two weeks prior notice. The interview is held exclusively in English and lasts for 30 minutes. 1 Short talk held by the applicant on a topic from Lightweight Construction and Composite Technology, which the applicant receives 30 minutes prior to the interview. Duration Maximum Score 15 mins 15 2 Professional discussion on the talk 5 mins 5 3 Questions on motivation and study 10 mins 10 objectives The Observer takes the minutes of the interview. Program leader and Observer create an evaluation proposal and make it available together with the minutes for the Examination Board to make a decision. 9
