Cofely Case Studies 6 London Legacy Development Corporation & Westfield Shopping Centres Sectors: Public & Private Commercial Service Areas: Energy Services & Facilities Management Cofely delivers both energy and facilities services at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, as well as providing low carbon energy to the surrounding areas. The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Stratford City District Energy Scheme, was designed & built, and now operated & maintained by Cofely. The scheme provides hot water, chilled water and electricity to buildings on the park, WestfieId Stratford shopping centre and other local commercial and residential properties. As such, it will play a key role in meeting The Mayor of London s vision to reduce CO 2 emissions across London by 60% before 2025. Cofely also provides FM services to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, including the iconic Aquatics Centre, Copper Box, Stadium, and the former International Press and Broadcasting Centre. The Cofely team also operate and maintain the ArcelorMittal Orbit and the entire parkland, including all waterways and highways. It is a fantastic achievement that the QE Olympic Park will be powered locally. Not only will it generate electricity but the heat from that process will also be used to heat and cool buildings providing a valuable wider legacy for the vibrant new metropolitan quarter we are creating in east London. Boris Johnson, Mayor of London North East Lincolnshire Council Sector: Public Service Areas: Energy Services, Facilities Management, & Business Process Outsourcing In 2010 we formed a ground-breaking regeneration partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council. The transformational contract involves the outsourcing of a number of key blue and white collar services to Cofely. The full partnership includes a broad range of services including highways & transport, development services & building control, asset management, security and architectural design services. During the life of the contract, Cofely is committed to creating 4,200 new jobs. The contract also allows for internal resources to be utilised by external organisations, thereby increasing inward investment to 170m and generating savings of 30m. It s an excellent opportunity to accelerate regeneration of the borough. We are working with North East Lincolnshire Council to create 4,200 new jobs and generate 250 training, work or apprenticeship placements. Caroline Hopkins, Regional Director

Cofely Case Studies 7 Dow Corning, South Wales Sector: Private Industrial Service Areas: Energy Services & Technical Services Cofely has a long term contract to operate and maintain the combined heat and power (CHP) energy centre at Dow Corning s facility in Barry, South Wales. The energy centre comprises a gas and steam turbine CHP, multiple high-pressure waste heat recovery boilers and low pressure boilers. It is capable of generating 250 tonnes of steam per hour and up to 28 MW of electricity. The heat and electrical efficiencies achieved qualify as good quality CHP under the CHP Quality Assurance Programme. Cofely is responsible for the operation and maintenance of water treatment systems which provide boiler feed water and treated water to the site. Cofely also provide an energy efficiency programme to the site utilising a team of specialist industrial energy managers. Together, they continually strive to drive down Dow Corning s energy costs and carbon emissions. We look forward to working closely with Cofely to further optimise CHP operation and to help Dow Corning explore additional energy saving opportunities in other areas of our site. David Proctor, Energy Development Manager, Dow Corning NHS Trusts, Nationwide Sector: Healthcare Service Areas: Energy Services, Facilities Management, & Technical Services Cofely is uniquely positioned to deliver industry-leading outcomes for the healthcare sector through saving energy, deploying low carbon technologies and increasing workplace efficiency. Cofely has a strong presence in the healthcare sector. For example, we are currently helping United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston. The project involved the design, construction and day-to-day management of a new energy centre at the hospital, which has reduced carbon emissions by 51%. We also provide fully integrated facilities management to several major hospitals including the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE), Pontefract & Pinderfields (pictured) and University Hospital of Durham. On all of these sites we have multi-skilled staff to deliver a wide range of services. We are glad that the RIE is one of the first to introduce new cleaning technologies. It has real advantages for patients, staff and the environment, and will help us to enhance cleanliness levels throughout the hospital. John Jack, Director of Facilities, NHS Lothian
