ASSESSMENT: During the semester 6 exams will be administered, which will include a final exam. Also, the student must successfully complete a head to toe physical assessment and the vital sign lab. Students will be evaluated based upon their performance of 6 total examinations, including the final examination, computer assignments, vital signs assessment, and a physical assessment evaluation. *The Physical Examination and vital signs assessments must be passed in order to pass the class. Grades will be weighted as follows: Module examinations: (5) at 12% each (60%) Computer assignments: 5% Final Examination: 25% Final Physical Examination evaluation: * 10% Vital Signs assessment (P/F) ----- Total: 100%
PAGE 4 VERNON COLLEGE SYLLABUS Examination Policy: Each examination will be taken individually on your own unless specified otherwise by the instructor(s). Each module exam will consist of 50 multiple choice/ multiple answer questions. The instructor will provide an individual Scantron with each exam. The final examination will consist of 100 questions in the same format as the module exams. The physical examination evaluation times will be assigned after the first exam. Instructions for signing up will be provided on Blackboard. It is necessary that each student choose a partner in class to accomplish this task. Each student will be evaluated by the instructor and must pass this task in order to pass the requirements for the class. If a student fails to pass the assessment, then they will be given a chance to repeat the assessment at a later time which will be evaluated by two instructors. The result of the second attempt will be graded by each instructor individually and averaged with the first score to obtain the final score. This score must be passing in order to pass the class. The computer assignments will be taken at the students convenience prior to assigned due dates which will be posted on blackboard. The Associate Degree Nursing Grading Scale is as follows: (ADN Handbook) A= 90-100 B= 84-89 C= 78-83 F= 77 or below Expectations of Students: Students are expected to attend class and contribute to discussions related to the lecture topic as needed. Students should not enter the classroom after the lecture has started. Cell phones calls or texting will not be permitted in class during lecture or testing. If a student is observed with a cell phone or device during testing time, then that student will be asked to leave and the test score will be subject to what is completed at the time of expulsion. No exceptions! During testing time, students will place their cell phones/devices either in off or silence position. Distraction of classmates with cell phone/device noise while testing will not be tolerated. A testing policy outlining these requests will be signed by each student and instructor and kept on file in the ADN department while the student remains enrolled at Vernon College. Please refer to the Associate Degree Nursing Handbook regarding the attendance policy. A student requiring alternative assessment methods and accommodations needs to notify the faculty member within one week after the beginning of each semester term.
